time for ich in water to clear?
clowntrigger replied to EbiTank's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Ebitank, has your new tank been cycled yet? After all such a massive revamp and you are planning to buy coral today? Have you check your water parameter? Please do so.... It has been like 4 days apart ever since you first posted about the problems. -
valleyman, I am using the JBJ brand and it cost $270. There are 2 switch that control 2 set of 2xPL light. I think it is e-ballast, but cannot see it as the ballast portion of it is enclosed, not like what Nature has, is exposed. The good point for my casing is that I could convert my to 55w PL tube if I want since the ballast has its own compartment, unlike Nature, it is sharing with the light tube. Look wise, it is better looking than what Nature has, but price wise, I think Nature one is better. You can go to the following URL to see a pictures of the JBJ light that I have, the model is Desktop Farmosa http://www.jbjlighting.com/sys_formosa.html

Valleyman, your tank will not look half white and half blue. I have that configuration in my tank, and it blend in real nice... BTW you should get the 4 PL tubes in the 4ft housing, that will give you more room for expansion in the future should you need more lights. Yep, the metal rectangular stuff is the e-ballast.

IMO, pacific marines got lots of red sea fishes(cheap for some of them), Reef world got nice soft corals where you can take and view and inspect before you buy.

dodo, I understand how you feel in term of the distance travel. Some guys have the previllage of staying near Lor Halus, where the good stuff is, poeple like me stuck in the centre, the nearest is Marine life, but that is about 0.5hrs of MRT and Bus ride well that sometimes mak you spend a bit less as you will seldom visit them and the temptation is not there. But the cons is every time you visit them, you tends to stock up.... Am I making sense?

I think it is not a so good idea if all the LH LFS turn into marine LFS and poeple start to keep marine fish without doing their homework but based on those Ah Beng knowledge who operate the LH LFS before..... You will find that lots of stuff will increase in price as the demand for it increase, worst it will be a great damage to the sea as fish and coral are dying at those hands of Ah Beng or their disciple without proper knowledge. Bottom line, if you intend to keep marine, do your homework, do just jump in the band wagon and follow the trend.. Think of those coral and fish are part of you, that way you will treasure them. Just my 0.2 cents....

If you go to NTUC, they have a digital one that can be set at 1min interval but the down side is, there are only 8 preprogram you can set. This timer cost $29.90, I am using 2 of those, so far so good.

I second that.... The only place to get the H&S skimmer is at Sealife. I have posted sometime back that you could get the skimmer direct from a German Online, but after including the shipping charges, it comes to about the sam prices as Singapore.

kelstorm, I think at petmart, they are selling the Berlin classis for $300. You will need a Eheim 1060 to drive this guy, that will be another $150. If a berlin skimmer at aquamart cost $800, I will recommend you to get a H&S skimmer at $850 or $650(smaller one), you will never regret on this. Else, pay some school fees and join Phang in the DIY of skimmer. I know quite a few of the reefer uses the berlin skimmer, maybe you will see them response.

I think it is misconception that we should not think that cycle will be done in 1 month. There is no hard formula for that. Importantly, you need to introduce something for it to cycle, like a few fresh market prawns. As long as when you see that your Ammonia has spike and decline to zero, your Nitrite has spike and decline to zero and your Nitrate has spkie and has decline, then your cycle has done. Change partial of your water to get rid of the low level of Nitrate, wala... you are in for the hobby. If you can get live sand from reefer, that will be best, as it help to speed up the bacterial building process.

Opinion on different brand of Chiller
clowntrigger replied to clowntrigger's topic in Product Reviews
ok.....ok maybe I should say, fo those who own the above, what have you got to say to it? Given a choice again, whould you get the same brand chiller or you would switch to another brand and why? mmn... Does that sound more appropriate.... -
Hi Guys Just like skimmer, there bound to be some brands that is a no-no to get while some are a must to get, so can someone enlighten me on chiller as well? I know in the market there are famous brand, Teco, Hailea and Resun, can someone who own these system give their opinion? I am interested in how they fare. I will be running it on a 4x2.5x2 tank with sump, thus I believe a 1/2 HP will be enough. Here are the stuff I am interested 1. Noise level 2. Price 3. efficiency, given the same HP, which one tends to turn on more often. 4. size 5. Which one need a external pump to circulate water through the chiller 6. Where to get the above brand cheapest 7. Power consumption 8. Price difference betw the 3 brand is not a consideration, as long as it is good. Just like comparing H&S to a sander skimmer, both perform the same function, but one outshine the others.

mrjoe, be careful on those macro algae. They tends to trap alot of detrius among themselves and as time passed, the whole thing will become ugly. Usually people keeps these algae in their sump or refugium. They are fast grower, with a week, you will see quite some growth. Do remember to trim them, else your whole tank will be full of these algae.

kelstorm, any idea how much will one of these probe cost? I am looking around for a digital thermometer that is reliable. Give up hope on those Taiwan made ones..

I think a wavemaker is simply powerhead connected to a controller and which these controller will switch on and off the various powerhead to simulate the current experience in the sea. Not all powerhead can hook up to a controller as most of our Powerhead cannot withstand the on and off cycle for too many times. Remember most of the power head that we use are deigned to use 7x24. Some of those powerhead used in the wavemaker can even be tune electronically to increase or decrease the output, and these are done at the controller end, hope this help.

Thanks guy for all the input, these are the info that I need.

AT, you are thinking it might be a fake lawnmover right? I have seen both of them, they sure does look alike.

Like I say before, I have bring back 5 fire goby in my check in luggage before. They did a scan of my luggage and ask me to open my luggage to check. They did not bother the fish, just ask me to take out the battery from my shaver. That was in HK custom at the old airport, hopefully still apply to the new one. I have friends that bring back goldfish from HK, hand carry recently, also no problem. I think it is just a matter of luck, if you meet up some officer who is bad mood, then you are in for it

kelstorm, 1 year back when I was in HK, I saw a shop who specialised in synthetic corals and all their display tank is filled with this kind of corals. They have a 8ft or more display tank, beautifully decorated with these corals. Out of curosity, I have bought myself a piece, let see if I could post it on the web. Overall the effect is quite amazing, of course you won't see the corals moving..

valleyman, nature is located at the following Nature Aquarium Address Blk 1 Thomson Road #01-430 Tel No 6255 6051 hope this help.

Valleyman, a PL light look like the light tube in a long U shape with a 4 pin connector at one end only. Whereas a FL is a normal long tube with 2 pin connector at 2 end. To judge a wattage of a PL lights, you can measure it length, usually a 16" one is 36W while a 23" is a 55W or 40W. I do not know whether Nature sells the light housing alone, you need to call them up and ask. The average is to change the light tube 6-9 months, hope that help.

I would go fo both 10000K cos for you to get a real actinic blue in Singapore for 55W, it will cost you a bomb. Last heard is that corallife 36W actinic blue cost about $55. The 2x4' is a FL right? A PL and FL look totally different, thus you cannot subsitute the holder for it, assuming the above about the 2x4' is true. Yes you can move the e-ballast out, but that will be ugly and you need to find a place to store it.

loonz, please explain what you mean by aquacultured LR? First time I heard of it, thanks.

That is why I grab the 3000l when Marinelife tell me that it is $130 hurry, 2 more left.....
