  1. Primary occupants would be small gobies and symbiotic pistol shrimp/goby and some softies/LPS before decidng to move further. Not really a fan of big fish although I'm always fascinated by huge King Angels and Sohal Tangs brought in by LFSes. As much as rare fish goes, I'm happy to have Flabelligobius sp. as Xmas present
  2. Some shots of the main tank and sump. I'm going to get filter socks tomorrow, probably 1 PP and 1 felt. As I'm new to a sump system, I hope fellow hobbyist can chime in on what I can add to the filtration. AFAIK, most people opt to have simple sump set ups, that is heavy skimming coupled with strong flow and LR as the primary biological media. For me, I am not intending to run fluidised reactors at the moment as the sump is rather small.
  3. It's been a long wait but this dream of mine is finally coming through! Having said that, I'm trying to do a documentation of my tank's ups and downs through this thread. I also hope to encourage people, irregardless whether young/old to be part of this hobby as I've realised that keeping aquariums seem to be a dying trend. Sad to say, in this time and age, the S.E.A aquarium is all that people know and I'm damn sure that this hobby can bring in so much more joy(than paying money to enter into a public aquarium). Times have changed and things are just not the same anymore I have been introduced to this hobby since way back in 2004 (after the Finding Nemo craze). It was after the visits to the various LFSes along Lavender Road, where Reborn and Paradiz Reef used to be that things started to get serious. Back then, there were lots of restriction and being a student meant that there were many things which I was subjected to, both financially and in terms of space. Now that I've moved to a new place and that I've stepped foot into the working world, I am finally able to fund myself both financially and independently on this hobby and decided to "get serious" and "learn from past mistakes". Anyway, here are the specs of the set up. Tank: 24x24x18 inches, 10mm glass thickness, 4-sided crystal glass tank Sump: 18 inches cube. Return Pump: Fluval Sea SP2 (running internally) Skimmer: JNS ConeS CO-1 Skimmer Chiller: HS-66A Lightings: Zetlight ZP3600 Having said that, I'm no expert in this hobby either and I hope to learn along the way and also willing to receive critiques from fellow hobbyists. All advice and inputs are welcome (Spammers, please steer clear of this thread) Thanks!
  4. Noted bro talev! I will try to dip it in hot water again to insert. Seems like this was the maximum eh, anymore I would have to use a larger hose:/
  5. Those white tape trimmings were actually default from the tank maker.hahaha Hmm, I see, I will give the white tape a shot.... Just fancy the fastener method, lol
  6. I'm thinking if this is a viable option to add to the return pump. Is this the reducer that some bros were referring to? So sorry, I'm quite new to pipings:/ http://s1059.photobucket.com/user/daybreaks91/media/DSC_0078.jpg.html'>
  7. Thanks for the input guys, I have managed to insert the hose into the barbed fittings already. This is a picture of the attached hose to the pump. However, the problem that I was referring to was the cable tie part, whereby I'm afraid that under extreme pressure, the attachment might give way. http://s1059.photobucket.com/user/daybreaks91/media/DSC_0077.jpg.html'>
  8. Yes, the idea of the clamp resulting in greater pressure exerted has crossed my mind before but security is still my priority I guess. I'll try to take a picture tonight and put it here for discussion:)
  9. Contact is no problem cause I had to use hot water to soften the hose in order to squeeze it into the fitting. Just need some added security. After all, I don't think I would want to wake up one morning to find that my living room is flooded with saltwater Thanks angmoh! I think I will check out Madpetz for the plastic clamps. Hope it's not overly expensive.
  10. I've recently gotten a Fluval return pump and have fixed up the hose to the chiller from the return pump. The hose fits snugly to the barbed fittings of the return pump and I have secured it together with cable tie. However, I'm just trying to play safe to see if there is any additional measures that I can take? Stainless steel hose clamps are out since I'm gonna run the pump internally. I have read about plastic hose clamps but I don't think anyone uses them very much locally? May I know if there are any alternatives to plastic cable ties to secure these hoses to a return pump?
  11. The first time I ever saw a bellus, I thought the female was gorgeous enough. But heck, the males look gorgeous as well!
  12. Let me know if you're selling them by the kilos too! Amazing rocks and pretty hard to come by
  13. Argh, hope there will be another round of tiny potters the next time! Tank hasn't arrived and yet all these amazing shipment has to come by:D
  14. Great looking rock scape. You got it from Iwarna?
  15. Thanks for the heads up! Guess I'll be practising the hyper-salinity method! Hope to see more photos of your set up and will be looking forward to your first addition in your tank
  16. Hey Lemon, any reason why you opted for a FW dip for the live rocks instead of a hyper-salinity dip? Will it affect the integrity of the rocks (ie. bacteria in the rock, good hitchhikers, coralline algae) ?
  17. I really like their enhanced features and its so much friendlier than the older version. In addition, the modernistic features and swipe-to switch page features is so awesome!
  18. Just some excitement for those who like to surf forums on their phones/tablets. Tapatalk has officially made their app free for iTunes Store. Not sure about android though but the new features are really cool and the layout is so much more convenient. Not a techno-dude so I don't think I'll be doing reviews but this is just one cool app and I encourage those who haven't to download it now:D
  19. Went down to SL on Saturday. No more jaw fish liao. Only left passers, queens, grey,Cortez. Rock beauties and royal grammas. Don't know if the single black cap left is still around now
  20. Hi sheriff, Maybe you'd like to contact Steven from newtriofisheries under our sponsor section. From my knowledge, he does saltwater changes for commercial aquaria. Cheers!
  21. I'm subscribing to this threadddd!
  22. Maybe I should rephrase and be more specific in my question. "Am I skimming enough" Since the total volume of my DT with the sump will probably add up to 80 odd gallons while the CO-1 is rated for up to 200 gallons. I'm sure this is considered over-skimming
  23. Dear all fellow forumers, I have a 45 gallons set up being planned and have decided to go for a JNS ConeS Skimmer after taking a look at its specifications. The model that I'm looking at is the CO-1. Its rated for up to 200 gallons while its larger cousin, the CO-2 is rated up to 350 gallons. I am still torn between these 2 models and the effectiveness and difference it would make and contribute to the system. Anyone could chim in with regards to the difference? I would most probably be looking at a mixed reef setup and to gain some experience before moving onto the more demanding candy canes and sticks. That being said, I am still a firm believer in water changes and that having a large skimmer would not eliminate the chore of doing it I know its still a relatively new skimmer on the market but however after seeing it in action at Ah Bengs' and the some of the reviews on RC, I couldn't help but to bite the bullet. Cheers!
  24. Yes they are. They will be open. Their rest days are Monday and Wednesdays
