Sorry everyone. I just found out that this chiller is an "AL-20", which is absolutely not worth what I paid for it to begin with. Price is reduced to S$ 30. Apparently, it is OK for saltwater, but it does have metal pipes so I wouldn't recommend it for sensitive corals.

Just to be clear, I don't know the brand for either of these items and suspect they were brandless. The chiller was able to keep the temperature below 27 degrees on my 10 gallon shrimp tank, being activated about a quarter of the time in a room without air conditioning. The power supply is 84W.

Want to sell a toadstool coral. About 20-25cm diameter when fully open. Comes on a piece of living rock that is also covered with several green hairy mushrooms. S$ 60. Self collect at NTU.

Want to sell a mini chiller, suitable for 10 gallon tank. S$ 75. The original price was S$ 260. It's two years old, but only used for six months. Also want to sell a wavemaker. A little strong for my 40 gallon tank. Probably OK for corals that like high flow or a bigger tank. Don't remember the original price, so selling for S$20. Prices are for self-collection at NTU. Please add S$10 for delivery.

OK; sure, I understand that the dosing rate will not be very consistent. Thanks for your help. Incidentally, I read on the SeaChem website that their Reef Phytoplankton has a specific gravity between 1.0 to 1.1, but they don't say exactly what the salt content is. What I found more worrying is that it has a pH of 3.5 to 4.0.

That's interesting. I didn't know that the phytoplankton products would raise salinity. Although I have to ask. If I'm dosing with a doser or by adding into an ATO, isn't the rise in salinity the same? I mean, in the end I'm going to put the same bottle of liquid phytoplankton into my tank.

OK, thanks for your answer. So then, what would happen if I put a UV sterilizer in my ATO? Would the water still go bad? It's just that it looks to me that a UV sterilizer and a small pump for circulation cost less than a doser.

I'm looking at auto-dosing liquid preserved phytoplankton (like SeaChem Reef Phytoplankton or Brightwell Aquatics PhytoGreen). I've read that this is usually done with buying a dosing pump. However, I'm wondering if there's any reason why I can't just put the phytoplankton directly into my auto top off reservoir? I realize that the phytoplankton might separate, so probably I would need a small pump in the auto top off to keep it mixed well. I also realize that it would be bad if bacteria started growing in my auto top off, feeding off the phytoplankton. But, as my reservoir has RO filtered water with 0 TDS and the phytoplankton has some preservatives, is it likely?

Hi, I need to move a 3ft tank. The tank is one year old and contains some living rock, sand, a few fish, a hermit crab, some snails, and some soft corals. I have actually four questions: 1) Can anyone recommend a good moving service? I saw an old thread recommending SGbros, but searching online only led me to a site dealing in TV mounts. I guess I'm not just looking for a company to lift an empty tank, but also one that can transport all the living rock, livestock, and water (I read it's best to preserve as much tank water as possible). 2) I read that what can be dangerous in moving a tank is disturbing the sand (I read it can release hydrogen sulfide and other stuff that's a bit beyond my level in chemistry). If I start now slowly removing sand (I still have a few months before moving) am I going to kill my biofilter? Right now I'm relying on living rock and sand for the biological filtration, but I'm not sure how much each is involved in the filtering. I have 14kg of living rock and only half an inch of living sand. 3) I read that I should also clean the tank before setting up again as the biofilm on the tank walls will die once the water is removed. However, does anyone know how long the biofilm takes to die? I'm wondering if it's possible to keep the biofilm alive if the tank is emptied of water, moved, and refilled fast enough. 4) And now the maybe the dumb question. My tank is already sitting on a table type stand, like this: If I can get hold of a hydraulic lifting platform, like this: is there any reason why I can't just lift and transport the whole tank with everything in it? Maybe I still need to take out the living rock so it doesn't fall. The hydraulic lifting platform can lift 350kg, while my tank with everything inside would be 300kg.
