  1. Hi, are coral chips alright to be used in a quarantine tank? Will they absorb the cupramine? I have several bags of them in my sump so i was planning to put some coral chips in the hang on back filter of the QT. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  2. I remember i saw a heater in your quarantine tank? Usually it’s the other way round, ppl in sg try to cool their tanks down. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  3. That means i’ll have to get an rodi unit [emoji17]. Another $100 down the drain. At least my fish will come out of quarantine healthy. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  4. Yes I remember seeing it on one of your post on the red sea tank. What is your water change schedule like on the QT? I am also planning on doing the 30 day copper and prazi treatment. When you do water changes, do you make new saltwater or take the water from your main tank? Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  5. Hi, i need some opinions on this issue. I was planning on buying a 2ft tank as a QT. However due to space constraints and disapproval from family about having another medium sized tank (they consider 2ft large) in the house, i think the best i can do is a 1.5ft / 45cm tank. I do plan on keeping a single yellow tang in that QT for a month in the future. In a tank that small, will the yellow tang get stressed out, increasing its chances of getting parasites? I’ll try my best to put a few pvc pipes for hiding spots. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  6. I think for regular fish like clowns or tangs, fans should be alright to keep the temperature around 28 degrees. Just have to watch the evaporation of water. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  7. I was looking at getting seachem cupramine and prazi gold. Would these 2 medications be sufficient? Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  8. I see, so each time i set up the QT, i should take one of the bags of coral chips from my main tank sump, then throw it away after the quarantine period? Also, just curious if the medication is to attempt to prevent the fish from getting ich or other diseases? What will happen if i wait until the fish are showing signs of illnesses then treat them with the medication? Sorry for the newbie questions, only had my tank set up for about a week so still learning a lot. Thanks Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  9. Thanks for all the responses, I should definitely set up a quarantine tank. Just a few questions, 1. What should i do with the sponge filter and media when I don’t have any new fish? 2. The water in my main tank is chilled to 26 degrees. However since the quarantine tank will not be chilled, it is likely to be around 29-30 degrees. When it’s time to add the fish from QT to the main tank, is drip acclimation enough to prevent the shock from the difference in temperature? 3. What type of medication should i be treating the new fish with? Will there be a shock when I transfer them to the non medicated display tank? 4. How long are fish usually quarantined for? 3 weeks? 10. Hi, could anyone suggest some fish shops which sell reliable and healthy fish? Anyone who had fish thrive in their tank for a very long time? Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  11. Hi, i’m starting off my tank with a few frags of simple soft coral before i move on to lps in the distant future (I am especially keen on zoanthids). I was wondering if any soft coral keepers dose their tanks with supplements like calcium? I know soft corals are not very sensitive but i have heard that they still need good levels of calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity for their exoskeleton. Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  12. Hi, i’ve just found out that refractometers have to be calibrated often using some sort of calibration fluid? This seemed like quite a hassle to me so i was wondering how often this calibration process would have to take place, and is the calibration fluid widely available for purchase once the existing bottle has run out? Or can tap water be used to calibrate the refractometer? Thanks! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  13. Nice tank! How did u manage to get 5 clownfish to get along? Did u buy 1 big one then 4 small ones so that there is a class female? Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  14. How do you manage to keep temperature below 27.5? Are you using a fan on your fish QT tank? Maybe i should just start with fish only and easy soft coral like gsp then eventually invest in a chiller in the future. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  15. Hi, anyone here can tell me the max temperature of water suitable for growing lps and softies? Starting up a tank soon but hoping to not have to get a chiller since they are on the expensive side and are bulky. Thanks! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  16. Hi, does anyone know if there is a maximum tds reading for FOWLR tanks which make it safe for the fish and reduce algae growth? I’m not planning on keeping coral. I’m hoping to be able to get away with using singapore’s good tap water with dechlorinator and not purchasing and rodi unit. Thanks! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  17. Hi, i’m looking to buy a tank. Thinking of getting a 4x2x2 ft but i’m unsure of what thickness of glass to go for. Can anyone suggest the minimum thickness so as to prevent the bowing of glass in the long run. Thanks! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  18. Hi, i’m planning to start my first marine tank after keeping freshwater for about 1 year+. I don’t really want to sacrifice the additional space of having a sump tank so I was going to opt for a 3-4 ft ios tank. I’m hoping to get some opinions about the effectiveness of an internal overflow sump for FOWLR saltwater tanks. Is the compartment provided sufficient to hold enough bio media to filter larger tanks going up to 4ft? I know ios tanks can’t fit a large enough protein skimmer but i’ve read that it isn’t necessary as long as I keep up with the weekly or biweekly water changes? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
