how to encrust your LRs with coralline =)
shoelevy replied to somebody's topic in General Reefkeeping_
i would agree with terryz and add good current flow to the list i would like to share with you some nice corraline growth photo from my tank this one took about 6mths to form up...its about 3cm across if u take a look at the 2nd picture on the right side u'll see another colony of coralline starting to encrust also...that one i think is about 2mths old...i think given more time and high Ca and kh and mg it'll become like the much more developed one also, 1 thing to add on is that i only notice such growth under my blue 20kk bulb...so far i haven't seen coralline growth like this under the other 10kk bulb...so i'd say blue light is good for coralline -
its this fish food that comes in a tin can there's the flake form powder form i personally prefer the powder form. its supposedly to boost het colour of your fish but the smell is fantastic for fishes too apparantly, the smell is so strong that everytime i feed the fishes this my sun coral opens anyway, the response from my fishes to cyclopeeze is so unique and postive that i have dubbed it fish "XO" u can find it at reborn, irwana or bioocean

give these fishes more time...anthias are very shy i would say dispars are one of the easier ones around but this doesn't mean they are easy so u can relax but not too much though! anyway, i believe they are shy due to their slowness in adapting to new surroundings....so one trick i practise with dispars is to put them in a betta box first for a few days....this way they are exposed day and night and can get used to the tank fast. after i release them...they usually take less than 24hrs to get used and come out swimming and hm....as to whether they prefer brine or mysis...in my experience i would say there is a preference for brine...i think its cos mysis haf harder shell...i notice my anthias when they take in mysis they will spit them out and some have even begun to select only brine when i throw in a mix of mysis and brine oh and if u worried about them not eating...u can try cyclopeeze...these were the things my anthias started first eating good luck! my 2 cents worth!

i tried that they retracted pretty quickly so wat do u think? mel...yeah..i'm still around...uni life taking my attention away so seldom post nowadays...but i still come in once in a while

this is what i think... in my opinion, the skimmate falls back into the riser but will mix in with the foam that is rising and hence will rise with the foam again. of course after that it will go into the collection cup...overflow back into riser and rise with foam again so it never makes it back to the tank but stays at the neck or riser region of the beckett
-
don't exactly get what you mean BH but i suppose as long as the skimmer skims and when the waste collector is full and it doesn't flood your house then i suppose its considered auto shut off
-
in my opinion right, i think the bio ocean version of skimmate returning to main tank wouldn't cause a harm to the tank. allow me to explain my pt of view. lets assume that we run the traditional air tight beckett along side with bio ocean beckett. each skimmer runs on a seperate tank. now lets assume that both tanks have 1L of DOC and that the waste collector of both fills up with say 900ml of DOC and auto shuts off so what happens is 100ml of DOC is left in each tank ok...now lets look at what happens in each beckett design and the amt of DOC left in each tank Case 1: Traditional air tight beckett back pressure builds up, skimmer stops foaming...no skimmate is collected. so what remains in your tank is still 100ml of DOC. Case 2: Bio ocean beckett It continues to skim, but since the collection cup is full, whatever DOC it skims out simply goes back to the tank through over flowing back into the riser. In other words, lets say it skims out 1ml of skimmate, since the collection cup is already full, this 1 ml flows back to the tank. Its safe to say this is true for any amt of skimmate...it can skim out 10ml, but all 10ml will go back to the tank. What this means is, for any amt of the remaining 100ml which the beckett draws out, anthe exact of skimmate will go back to the tank. Result: The amt of DOC in the main tank is still 100ml. So in my opinion, if you compare both situations, we will see that the skimmate flowing back to the tank isn't exactly a problem since the amt of DOC floating about in the tank is still the same amt of 100ml.In fact, there's no sudden/excess introduction of skimmate or heavy metals etc etc. What the owner should do is to clear the waste collector So my thought is that the bio ocean skimmer in terms of auto shut off capability works just fine Just my thoughts...feel free to discuss PS:discuss is not equals to flame/personal agenda so plus keep your words friendly

eh bro not all of us got chance to go bangkok just to see the race of those whom u met... don't mind tell us what race they were? ang moh? chinese?
-
hi ocean werx i think i begin to understand your explanation i've attached a picture so that i can clarify "the excessive skimmate will flow back into the riser neck and not out of the collection cup. " does the picture depict what you are trying to say?
-
just a brain teaser any tots on wat happens to the rocks by the time u get bak?
-
if u r thinking of getting the chipson's extension i think he can help with the plumbing he offered me when i wanted to extend my beckett and let me just say that his service is commendable being very patient even though last min i decided not to upgrade my beckett 2 thumbs up
-
hm no offense but i kinda tink almost all r true or perhaps if the guys argue that these are the qualities of a boy...then perhaps i am still a boy...
-
hey hotlemond u r right...u need to raise the height of the beckett nozzel i know chipson's beckett extensions come with the extra tube for raising the nozzel

i've posted this b4 but i'll post again if the bubble only affects one eye...its most likely due to the eye getting injured during a fight or whatever resulting in that bubble symptom but if the bubble affects both eyes, you may haf a water parameter crisis on your hands in any case, the symptom is seldom fatal and in the worse case scenario, the fish will lose its eye. simply leave it and let the fish recover on its own....feed garlic food if it serves to soothe your mind of course, if it loses both its eyes, that can lead to its death do a search on google or www.wetwebmedia.com, u will find info on what i'm saying
-
jackalcleo...my suggestion to u is instead of using 3 elbows as weileong suggested, i suggest using one long hose that connects the pump directly to the sump instead this is because each elbow presents alot of resistance to flow while using a hose presents much less i was previously using the 3elbows configuration as mentioned earlier but the bubble count wasn't good then i went and tried using just the hose directly inserted into the sump and WHOA...i was very happy to see the bubble count was SOoo much better also, using 1 hose saves u alot of time and work since you dun need to go through the hassle of glueing the parts together etc etc do gif this a thought

mine 5ft tank also only cost me $70/- rise in elec 500W mh 6hrs a day cl650 maintaining at 28degrees md55, 2 eheim 1262, aquabee3000 and weipro4000 compressors take up alot of power...so u might wanna look into your chiller running for 16hrs a day and also your aircon at night...try cutting down to lesser rooms on aircon per night
-
hehe then u can make it hear it twice cos i'm thinking of doing the same too just not sure when i know the fastest and easiest way is to get a wife next option is stay there and work for 10yrs
-
i don't haf problem with this phone love it to bits
-
resun cl650 draw 650watt ?
shoelevy replied to LIM CHYE HUAT's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
i beleive the number to use for your calculation is 650W cos that's the power consumption so assuming running 24hrs its 24x650x30/1000x0.18=84bucks a mth or 2.8bucks a day
