if i remember correctly, the government sub-contract parking attendents to private companies...perhaps these companies have different rules and regulations so the attendents dress and look different

just doesn't seem right that a barnacle grows on a coral? and so zun in the middle lei i still think its the mouth leh perhaps we need more inputs from fellow experienced ones -
hey bro just me, recently i converted my t8 to t5 simply by buying the eballast and the electrical connectors at the end. perhaps if the length of the housing can fit t5 tubes ah...y not change the PL to t5! for my 4ft set, the ballast with t5 tube with 2 sets of wires for 2 tubes cost me $50/- from bioocean...definitely lesser than what it costs to repair your PL oh and if you are free and don't mind paying them a visit i recommend bringing your housing down to bioocean and look for kenny, he is simply fantastic with the advice and suggestions. he was the one who suggested i modift my t8 to t5 when i was there to purchase a new set of t5's from him! great service from them and so i recommend them to you!

Are you interested in the reefer's gathering?
shoelevy replied to blueheaven's topic in SRC Contest and prizes section
heya blueheaven, really appreciate the things u do for SRC and the enthusiasm you show most of the time i see where u r coming from but on this occasion, i would share the same opinion as reefaholic. i do share his opinion but not his anemosity, if any. its not the effort you put into organising a meeting that we speak against, its more of something like, you give details, you plan ahead of time and then just when its about to happen, we receive news of the event either being cancelled or postponed etc. i'm definitely not trying to say its your fault, sometimes circumstancial factors make it necessary to cancel but the thing is, as people who are not involved in the planning, it would seem that each time you post and call for a meeting, a very big doubt is placed in mind as to whether it will happen becos afterall, it's been cancelled very often...so then it becomes tiring to see a post for a meeting and then no one will respond to your postings...do u get wat i am trying to say? anyway, my take is that many a times situation variables change unpredictably so its often impractical to state for certain what will happen in a very far future...in other words, go on with the planning etc but don't annouce the details too soon then start changing them...u can alwaes plan with certain assumptions then annouce when the date is nearer? hope my suggestion and opinion helps. no further postings...over and out -

i agree with getting someone to come look at your tank i rememeber last december 2005 i went to thailand over the new yr...guess what...my tank also decided to countdown 5 4 3 2 1...pump short out! tank went without circulation or lights for 48hrs...i lost quite abit of fishes...fortunately my corals and the hardiest of fishes survived...so seriously, get someone to come over....if i had done so my tank could probably have survived

believe it or not, my 5x2x2 with sump total water capacity of 600L is chilled with a resun CL650 from Aquamarin..most people think CL650 cannot handle my tank but i've used it for 1.5yrs now my lights are : 2x250W Mh with 2x54W T5, 160W of insump pump and 100W outsump. the chiller is able to maintain the temperature at 27-28 cos i set it at 27...the average temperature when lights are on is 28 and this is also when the chiller kicks in the most, each time about 40mins-1hr then rest for about the same period of time. at night it doesn't really kick in much. the pump supplying the tank is about 1500-2000L/hr hope this helps!

excellent news to hear about the cleaner wrasse's well being...that's great news hopefully it will grow till rip old age...wrasse with beard? it was already eating when you buoght it or you weaned it?
-
heya...very nice set up indeed... but can i bring your attention to a few things? 1)boycott cleaner wrasse! their survivabilty in our aquariums is quite low due to their very specific diet of parasites which tend to be scarce in our tanks. research has also shown that the removal of these fishes from the wild harms the eco system quite significantly 2)the jewel coral if i remember correctly has quite poor survivability too...it tends to last more than 6mths then suddenly die off with no reason...but if you succeed with it it'd be very wonderful! then do share with us your secrets ok? 3)as for the yellow clown goby...its a cute fish! it likes to hang around corals if you notice...but to take note because that habit can irritate some corals and cause them to not open and slowly die off...mine disturbed my lobo followed by cyarina then my plate...luckily i discovered early and got it out and now my corals are opening once again hey...once again a very nice setup indeed...nice clean sand!

my guess is that it hasn't broken in yet..give it a week...if after a week still no skimmate then i think you've wasted your money. breaking in is a process new skimmers usually have to go through...its due to a layer of oil that is found on the acrylic of new skimmers which i believe is introduced due to the manufacturing process. this layer of oil makes it hard for the skimmate to climb up, slipping back down and hence no foam...the oil usually takes a few days to dissolve off so i suggest waiting for a week first before concluding anything alright? chill...have a kitkat!

newly acquired bullet beckett...48" tall will monitor nutrient level to see if it helps with my no3 levels cheers

fixed up some t5 actinics today and had nothing much to do after that so took a couple of photos of some nice colours under the actinics
-
DSB you need to be patient and wait for the sandbed to mature...mine took 9mths you could get a denitrator if you want but i'm a supporter of a powerful skimmer which has brought my no3 down by 30ppm without denitrator etc.

some go to the zoo some hide between the polyps in the morning...try shaking your zoos and you should see some drop but i agree that i have alot of them on the glass and rock u can read this http://www.thesea.org/reef_aquarium/pests/pests_snails.php now it explains why one of my zoos started dying mysteriously

haha...borinz...dun shy na..share your secrets with us man..i go your house so many times i still can't figure out your secret...maybe cos u r handsome so your corals see u happy and open up nice nice... ok but on a serious note, i think your dedication is superb...all the water changes and additives etc and visits to the shops ensure u buy the best and maintain them as the best. KUDOS brother

i once read that black acts as a very good contrast to bring out the bright colours of corals...can't remember where i read it though
