The theory behind beckett skimmers? How it works?
shoelevy replied to arcanehacker's topic in Product Reviews
as fro the beckett head's position i'm confused when the new model came out. lol. never read much into its technology hmm as for those needlewheels, my guess is that needlewheel chops the bubbles into much finer bubbles than what u see in the beckett my 2nd guess is that beckett pumps must be powerful to provide the pressure needed, as a result the water passes in and out of the body quickly. so in order to let the water react longer with the bubbles, a taller body is needed. with needlewheels, the pumps used for needlewheels are not strong so the water passes in and out slower and hence a smaller body is needed. but these are just my guesses as for which is better, hm depends on your budget. but i personally like becketts...there's this big powerful do-the-job feel when i look at them...LOL and i quote from someone:"nothing beats the performance of a beckett becos it uses brute force" my 2 cents -
The theory behind beckett skimmers? How it works?
shoelevy replied to arcanehacker's topic in Product Reviews
i think the higher the body the longer the time for the bubbles to react and clean the water. bigger is better. i'm not really sure what the pvc gunk pipe is used for but it should be as tall as the body but now there's the skimmer design called bullet series which has the beckett at the base of the skimmer so whether it matters or not i'm not longer sure -
err do they move? cos my tank i haf white coco tubeworms growing EVERYWHERE...as long as i dun scrub on a particularly part CONFIRM got white cocotubeworm growing i never bluff you, ask those bro's who came over to my place before, they start off small and dun move like some dirt speck on your glass, then as they grow, u start to notice the feathers. so if yours is coco tubeworms, i suggest u leave it cos its good!

ok guys, as promised i'm back with a follow up by providing details of its no3 control. my no3 was originally 30 when i fired this guy up. when i tested the no3 after about 4weeks, it was halved to 15ppm. and then no matter how i tweeked it it never got lower. so i suspected sth needed cleaning and sure enough, after i took the md55 for a shower, and tested the no3 another mth later, the no3 is now down to just 2ppm. fantastic skimmer! can say that i've never been happier! hope this offers closure to this thread. thanks all!

hi u dun need to feed zoos really...but the interesting thing is my people eater zoos do capture floating mysis and gobble them up ok now that's besides the pt, i'd like to share with u my experience with a slowly dying zoo colony i had. intially i tot it was the water parameters etc etc. i tried dosing stuff but it didn't seem to help much until 1 day, a fellow friend came over and spotted some tiny snails i had running ard in my tank. guess wat...they were sun dial snails...zoo pests read more about them http://www.thesea.org/reef_aquarium/pests/pests_snails.php note the words "instead the consumption pace is a bit more steady. Gone unnoticed you may attribute the losses to natural causes." thats when i started to suspect the snails. and every night i will remove them...slowly but surely the numbers dwindled and now my zoos are very healthy my pt to haring this experience is if u've tried toying with water parameters and everything seems fine, esp if other corals like lps are doing fine, then probably u will need to suspect that its pests. look out for snails and nudibranches then decide on the right course of action. ps:if its really sundials snails, they will come out at night...so look for them about 1 hr after your lights go off.... hope this helps
