  1. Thanks all for the advice. I had thought long and hard about having a BB tank, because like you, I once thought it ugly too. But due to cyano and diatoms frequently breaking out on the sandbed, I've since convinced myself to convert to BB. A BB also makes the tank look neater and cleaner too.
  2. Hi, I've decided to go BB and have search and read posts on BB tanks. However, is it practical to have a BB tank, but a DSB refugium (marco algae only)? From what I know, fish poo that settles down on a sandbed would remain uncleared, which will contribute to phospate and nitrate levels. However, if poo and dirt is filtered by the filter wool, then is it alright to have a DSB in my refugium with strictly only marco algae inside? What do you think?
  3. I see no problems with the design, as for pump failure, the diagram doesnt even show the return pump pipe, so what are you guys referring to?
  4. I noticed that your overflow pipe is tilted and leaning towards the tank at the bottom part. To solve this, I use a suction cup with holder to hold the pipe straight. Hope it helps.
  5. Traded. Thanks for the LR, you know who you are.
  6. Bobby... very nice fella! upz for you.
  7. Did you get them from the small marine shop? I suspect they may be affect with cynide posioning because both my angel and butterfly do not feed, and peck on the rocks. After a few days they suddenly have some wound in their sides with broken tail fins.
  8. Please note, the tank, sump, stand and pipings are for sale only.
  9. Hi, I want to sell my tank setup. Tank 3x1.5x1.5ft (6mm thick, 5 plan) Wrought iron stand (2 tier, black, sprayed with anti rust + 3 layer of black paint) Sump 24"x12"x14" DIY pipings & DIY overflow Take all for $60. Trying to clear off cause upgrading to a bigger tank!
  10. There are many school of thoughts on this issue so I thought I'd better play safe and ask about it. I remember one reefer even used lava rock instead of liverocks for a marine tank. I plan to use these rocks as base and place LR on top of them, don't know if any granite stuff may leak out from it.
  11. I have some rocks I picked up and used during my freshwater days, for my cichlid tank. Now I was wondering if it is safe to use as base rock in my marine tank?
  12. How many kg of LR do u want to trade, and where do you stay?
  13. Wish to trade my mushies (orange and brown) for LR in the East. Looking at 10kg of LR. Brown mushie will turn purple in ideal conditions.
  14. I have 2 rocks of mushies (orange, brown) if you are interested.
  15. Hi, was wondering where I can buy a starboard for my bb tank. Did a search but came up with nothing. Was thinking of DIY a starboard if I cant get hold of one. Is it possible?
  16. Thank you for the advise, looks like I don't have to shift the tank afterall.
  17. Hi, I'm more concerned about the strong smell that will seep into the water and kill the LS. I am not using a cabinet, would that still be alright?
  18. My 3ft tank is located in my room, and I'm thinking of painting the walls opposite the tank. Do I have to shift the tank out? Or is it safe to leave the tank in the room as its quite tedious to shift the tank out and back in again.
