  1. Hey guys, I finally own a Hailea-HS66a, and as chillers are a costly equipment, I would like to maintain a temperature of 27 celsius. However, the chiller display keeps showing a temp of above 27, yet the chiller does not activate. However, when I set it as 26, the chiller starts working. Is this normal? Is the Hailea-HS66a max temp 26? Or does the chiller activate only when the display temp on the chiller is 28? So does that mean if I set it as 26, it will only activate when it is 27? Thank you:)
  2. And also just reusing a 6W SunSun Wavemaker from my 2 ft cos my return is relatively strong Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  3. Thanks guys, so based on the replies the overall 400W power would be used for about 8 hours max a day. That's about $23 a month. Damn. Factoring in all my other stuff (DCW-6000, BM C3.5, 18W Philips for fuge, Beamswork (sticking with low light softies)) racks my bill up to $50 a month. Gonna really feel that one cos my 2 ft was only $7 a month:') At least it's not as bad as I thought it will be. Thanks guys, pls do correct me if I'm wrong. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  4. Also, I checked the HS-66a description in the Fresh N Marine website, and it says the power is 400W, but 1/4 Horsepower is only 187 watts+-, which do I use to estimate the costs? Thank you:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  6. Hey guys, the 4 ft is finally set up, and I'm thinking of getting a HS-66a as I found out fans are not really a realistic solution. The thing that's really biting is the electricity cost of running a chiller, I saw one that runs $200 a month. I'm just a student, so that's kinda unrealistic too. Along with the sale price of the actual chiller itself. Pls advice on the actual cost per month of running a chiller (HS-66a is I think 1/5 HP, run at 26.5°c). By the way, as far as I know the chiller itself does not run 24/7, is it supposed to be manually shut off or does it shut itself off upon reaching the set temp? Thank you:) I tried using online calculators but none of them specify for aquarium chillers. Thanks again for any help:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  8. Hey guys, I'm currently cycling my tank with market shrimp and it smells very bad. I read that the only way to remove the smell is by water change which is, in the saltwater hobby with a bigger tank, pretty expensive. Will the cycle eventually remove the smell? If not, is there anywhere I can get a chemical ammonia source e.g. Ammonium Chloride? Thank you:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  9. Ah okay that's great bro, thx a lot:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  12. Hey guys, what ended up working was sun bleaching, rocks are turning white after around two days:) As can be seen in the photo, the rocks with better exposure to sunlight at the surface are brighter. I do suggest using a bleach bath beforehand in case it helped. Thanks for the suggestions:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  14. Currently using rubber band to attach as I ran out of the proper glue and nt a lot of time to get some. Thx:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  15. Hey guys, there's a slightly pinkish gray patch on my Bird's Nest, do I have to trim it off? Would appreciate an ID and treatment on the issue at hand. Thx a lot:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  16. Hi bro, I can't really help you much with the rest, but as far as I know, as long as you keep the tank near a weight bearing region in ur HDB, there should not be an issue. However to be safe, it is recommended for you to write up a permission to HDB regarding a large tank size. As a sort of reassurance, I have a neighbour who has over hundreds of gallons of water with his display and sump volume, and he has not had any issues for the many years he has kept it. Also, if you are looking to find someone to do your plumbing for you, I believe the price wpuld be around a hubdred to two hundred. Good luck bro, welcome to SRC haha Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  17. I personally used Kao Colour Bleach (Powdered), which didn't work, a few days ago. Today I used Leo Bleach, which also showed not much of a result. Soaked in the Kao bleach for about six hours, and in the Leo bleach about three. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  18. Soaked them in 30% bleach, 70% tap water. Sad to say there's no difference:( Now in freshwater with dechlorinator, will try sun bleaching today morning. Thanks for the suggestion anyways:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  19. Nice bro, I'm looking to set up a low consumption system too. Does your fan make a lot of noise? Also, will topping up with freshwater be okay or is kalk water necessary? Thanks, and looking forward to more updates:)
  20. Will powdered bleach work the same? Also, won't too long exposure cause bleach to leach? Thanks:) Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  21. It looks more white than it is under the sunlight hahahah Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  22. Hi guys, I have rocks that came with the tank that I bought. Problem is they are brown. How can I turn them white? I have placed them in bleach for a few hours, and then rinsed off. The brown colour is most likely not caused by diatoms as I have rinsed the rocks along with them having not a lot of light. Additionally, I doubt the rocks were live when I got them, and this was about two or three weeks ago already. Thank you:)
  23. Thx a lot, cos I just got an NAC 3.5 from a kind guy and I was wondering if it would be necessary. I thought about it and I figured using an algae scrubber would be easier to set up than having to get a chaeto reactor. So I can get the extra nutrient control.
