Using chiller to bring down temperature
Indeco replied to PowderTang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Is your chiller temp and the tank temp the same? normally chiller and tank temp will have different so if you want more accurate temp you can do calibration on your chiller to make the temp variance smaller, then it will cool down to the temp you want and also less fluctuation. if not just set chiller temp to 24 and you should be getting tank temp at 25 -

haha... ok ok... Erm slowly into the hobby now I also think is unlikely that any LFS will really do proper QT... but sea life aquarium they do have a holding area for new fish that just arrived, they will hold the fish for a few days before putting into the display for sell. If you want to buy those in the holding area they will give discount... personally find this approach quite gd... -

Yap agree with you bro, but personally I feel that if you branding your position on the premium side then I guess many will also expect the premium service that you should provide... anyway I will not buy from there so wouldn't comment any further... Haha... -

Oh Ok, I always get worries when the fish don't eat after 1 or 2 days... Haha... now I'm will focus more on their stability then on the feeding.... This LFS is famous for their sky high price, I was told by them they charge high is due to they QT the fish before selling. I went there a couple of time and everything look fine until recently visit. When I saw a few tang having ick and dead fishes lying around. Then finally I understand that is just marketing... lucky everytime I want to buy but is stop by their price else feed like kana chop carrot. Haha.. -

@aquagem Is this common that this fish can survive without eating for 4 weeks? or u actually did something to sustain the life while trying to get the fish to eat? -
If is new tank then u can follow the below, that the way I did to bring down the ammonia and nitrite to 0 after I overstock my tank with fishes... Small water changes 20 to 25% for every 1 - 2 days (Never use tap water as the nitrite level is high in tap water) Dose seachem prime to temporary change the free ammonia NH3 to ionised ammonia NH4, only NH3 will kill fish Dose prodibio biodigest 1 vital per day, I find it more effective than Microbacter7 Add more bacteria hosting media like, marine pure, maxspect or bio-home Reduce feeding or cut down the food Stop adding fish and wait for the bacteria to build up After doing the above for 3 weeks then I see the result...

Yo bro, welcome to the world of reefing For the tank size basically don't have recommended size, ultimately is about what do you want to achieve in the long run... you can have those Nuvo tank which is 10/20g to those custom build 200/300g tank, the different is that small tank is easier to maintain and cheaper compare to bigger tank but bigger tank give you more flexibility and scalability and most important when mistake happen it will be more forgiving than small tank... I believe those recommended bigger tank is due to future upgrade of tank due to the grow in interest. If you are going for small tank, get the Nuvo series will be good enough. For big tank with sump, i will advise you to check out those tank builders and tell them your expectation and get the quotation that meet your budget... the piping and sump design required good knowledge to ensure the overall system work well, if you are not experience in this area then better let the expert do the job... don't need to rush in to make decision... Yes, HDB side should not have any issue on the big tank... we got many bros here that have more than 1 tank in their house... you can also check out some youtube channel like bulkreefsupply, fishofhex which provide a lot of information... This is just my 2 cent hope it help you...

Indeco replied to PowderTang's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
you also can try Dr.G's Anti-Parasitic Caviar & Dr.G's Anti-Bacterial Caviar, heard the review not bad but currently is OOS in Singapore, need to wait a while... -
No lah, haven decide how the tank should be like so never put stone yet... yap, that the only way lo... don't want to kill the innocent anymore...
-
yap, dosing BW Microbacter7 everyday le. but the bacteria grow seem to be quite slow...
-
can also do this trap to catch the worm, seem to work quite well
-
Just now went to the LFS and the uncle told me it is ammonia/nitrite poison not brook... @Solo77 yap, my tank only about 1.5 old. I cycled 3 weeks before putting the fish @stormrider agree, already brought the maxspect bio-sphere and will be putting into the tank hopefully can house more bacteria...
-
Oh ok, so I don't need to treat the tank water just let it run by itself... Will not buy any clown for the moment... maybe will look for goby or blenny my PH do fluctuate between 7.6 to 8, I guess is because I do a lot of water changes... below are my tank setup, the one you see is I put them into the plastic tank liao...
-
One more bite the dust today... Solo77 bro is right, they are hit by brook... Now all the fish is gone what should I do will the tank now? How to eliminate the disease completely from my tank? 1) Remove all the water, start all over again? 2) Dose cupramine to kill the disease? My tank got no rock, no sand just have seachem matrix and marine pure sphere
-
agree, I guess for those fast and deadly disease treatment wouldn't help much... prevention is better than cure...
