this one from HL.... errrr but i can't find the name leh.. wahahahah... errr red cap.. written there MARINE GRAN.. PET DAJANA....... $6.50 only... it will sink slowly but some will still float on the surface of the water... hmmm u can make it sink if u literally throw the food into the water..
-
yarlor the only prob is that u have to continue changing ice.. u mean DC fans can bring down the temp that much?! but my tank ah.. no space at the top to fix the fans... only a small space... if that one taken up by fan... den how to put food.. haha well juz have to save up n get a chiller... thanks guys
-
hmmm surely some ppl are gonna laugh at me when i say this... maybe should change my nick after this.. haha ok u see i wanted to get a chiller for my 3ft tank but due to my tight budget, could not afford to do so at present so i suddenly came up wif this idea when i was drinking tea at the coffeeshop... the tea was hot.. so i asked for a few ice cubes to cool it down... errr haha haha how bout doing that in a marine tank? i was thinking like putting the ice(tied up bags of water) into the sump refugium or somewhere so that cool water will be pumped out of the sump n over time.. hopefully the water level drops to abt 26+ or 27 like that. my temp now 31 leh.. i think too high has any1 tried this b4 or am i the 1st person to think of such a ludicrous idea?
-
drop the fish? where?! in the tank or drop the plastic on the table? ahhah i 1st make the temp the same then 50% change in water den after 10 mins of each step, i catch the fish and put it in the tank lor... by the way... now the wrasse is missing! dunno if it's dead or alive or not... i've got quite alot of lr stacked so cannot see behind thanks for ur advice btw...

help guys, i bought a yellow wrasse from hong leong and when it was in the bag, it was very active... i think it was too active! is this a sign of stress? i acclimated the fella and put it in the tank after awhile. The moment i put it in the tank, it darted to all the corners and suddenly stopped swimming in the middle of the tank n sank to the bottom when i looked at it closer, it was breathing very fast as if it's gonna die... wah like the fish kenna heart attack like that suddenly stop swimming! now it's lying near some rocks not moving... hmmm any1 experienced the same thing? any1 knows y? was it due to stress or wad? thanks.

even if the lfs have stock, they are mostly all flat ones or ones that won't look nice no matter where u put them.... payar lebar got a few at $10/kg... now there are new ones at $15/kg... rocks from some island near hawaii.... very nice rocks nice colour and nice shape.. at LCK110

I was stink with tiny little sharp needles!!!
shiraz replied to souphamster's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
no no... i did not bleach my rocks! ahha i was told to do so but i did not do it. so now i presume a bristle worm is still in my tank lah it would disturb the corals rite if u keep it there for too long allowing it to grow too big.... -

ya i got the same experience... should be bristleworms becos i killed 2 that was staying in that same rock. an easy way to remove the stings is to just run ur fingers thru your hair i know it may sound disgusting but it works. dunno lah -
HMmmmmmmm a point to ponder on. actually i think mineral water has more nutrients and i don't know if they are beneficial to the fish... they might kill e fish.. hmmm just wat i think... wait till u get the experts' point of view Dinosaur...

sorry guys another question.. or shall i say problem. the cloudiness is slowly going away BUT a layer of film.. looks oily... looks slimy... looks like mucus on my LR. Only a few of them has this white/transparent membrane. it actually looks like that the cloudiness of the water has spread to the rocks. i'll post a pic of it soon to help u guys ID it. thanks for any help!

hmm LR does not exactly smell good or bad... more of a neutral smell. there is a smell... but not THAT bad. it's not sand particles, it looks like smoke in the water... very fine... i mean very very fine.. u can't even see the particles... my skimmer needs washing every 2 hrs. just rinsed it for the 4th time since i posted this topic! if it's bacteria AT, does that mean i can't add any more LR until it clears? or can i buy more LR tomorrow and add them, in the tank?
-
hi ppl... i set my tank up and recently when i introduced some LR, the water suddenly turned cloudy after abt 5 hrs. i could not even see the back of my tank which was 2ft away! nitrite and nitrate was negative. i took them out, cleaned them propely and chnaged 1/2 the water in the tank and let it run until it became clear. When i put in LR again the water turned cloudy. any reason for this? thanks!
-
What to do with LR after you buy it?
shiraz replied to fairywrasse's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
help ppl.... i need some info here.... hmmm ok i bought 5kg of lr from a lfs and put them in a pail and a pump... one rock was very colourful.. i mean it had yellow, purple, green and abit of orange. after abt a day, the whole pail smelt of stale drainage water! all my other rocks were starting to smell as well so i quickly took the rest out and put them in another pail and left this one there alone so it dosen't 'contaminate' the rest. wad do i do with that lr? i've already cleaned it. it feels slightly slimy in some areas which i'll clean later. going to get more from aquamart tomorrow... hmm heard their rocks are cured already so u don't need to cure them... dunno if true or not but i know the rocks dun have STALE DRAINAGE water smell!!!!!sheesh -
it's actually from a marine fish farm in lim chu kang. they said they used the tank for abt a year and they are upgrading to a bigger 5 footer i think so they were selling off the old tank. thanks anyway i think i'll get the test kits and test the water b4 putting in livestock.
-
really?i was told it was only 150l..... hmmm maybe i heard wrongly. the tank was still running in the shop with a few tangs in it and the water was taken out just before it was transported to my house which is a 15min drive away. the bacteria can die in 15 mins?
-
hi, i just bought a second hand tank... 3x2x2... with sump tank. the sump has the old bio-balls but i'm going to put new saltwater into the tank. can i put fishes and LS into the tank straightaway or must i still cycle the tank for abt 2 weeks just to gain the stability? how much LR do u think is required for a 150litre tank? need some advise.. thanks!
-
thanks a bunch pospeh...
-
ohh i see thanks for your advise! so what biological filtration method do u suggest for my 2ft tank? i already have an ehiem professional canister filter that has a normal sponge filter and crushed ceramic chips(like a mini sump actually). do i still need a bio-filter like an overhead filter with bio-balls for example to support the canister filter?

hi, i would like to know more about under gravel filters. some shops say that u have to use fine sand like C3 or C5 but other shops say that u have to use bigger pieces of sand. i also understand that the sand bed must be at least 4 inches thick.. am i right? is it a good method of bio-filtration for my 2'' tank? thanks...
