Currently using a 1/2 hp Hailea chiller for 120gal tank. Problem: when it running it is very loud. I don't have the option to run a split system with a coil in the sump. Looking for a quiter option. I've seen some good reviews for Arctica and Teco - would appreciate your thoughts.

Percular clown laid egg
SaltySynapse replied to Jackieboi's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
When they are ready they will hatch about and hour after lights out. If you want to save them from being fish food in the morning is to catch them with a fry trap. Easy to make a DIY one. Then you will need 'green water' and rotifers. Lots of fun to raise clown fish but quite time consuming. -
Cheap coral chips vs ceramic balls
SaltySynapse replied to aquagem's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Coral chips are great and performan really well. The benefit of ceramic vs chips is they have more surface area for the volume. Trade-off is cost vs space. -
How long have you had the clown? If all your water test are normal then it could just be an issue with the new fish. Definitely not normal behavior.

Looks nice and open.. what is your tanks volume? Filtration?

I would recommend leaving it.

I recently experienced my GSP close up for 2+ months only for them to come back to full strength over a period of a week. Water parameters we're consistent and nothing else changed in my tank during this period all the other coral (zoas/LPS/SPS) were healthy and growing. One therory is that the GSP may have been bothered by asterina starfish.. I've a noticed a few in my tank (I pull them out when I can).

As long as it doesn't go all slimy then it should eventually open back up. Sounds like it didn't like the glue or it doesn't like the location/water flow in the tank. Some times they can be closed up for a few weeks as the acclimate to a new tank.

I successfully ran a setup like this for years without a skimmer. Key is to keep up with your water changes to match the fish load.
