Boyzone singer Gately dies in Spain AFP - Monday, October 12 MADRID (AFP) - – Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, 33, died on Saturday while on holiday in Majorca off the coast of Spain, the Irish band with a string of hits in the 1990s said on its website. "Stephen tragically died yesterday whilst on holiday with his partner Andrew in Majorca," the site said on Sunday. The Boyzone members, including lead singer Ronan Keating, were heading to Majorca following news of the death. The circumstances surrounding Gately's death remained unclear but (Britain's) News of the World newspaper reported he died after a night out. Boyzone manager Louis Walsh told the newspaper: "We're all absolutely devastated." He said: "I'm in complete shock. I was only with him on Monday at an awards ceremony. We don't know much about what's happened yet... He was a great man." Speaking to the newspaper late Saturday, band member Shane Lynch said: "Me and the boys are flying out in the morning. "We just need to get over to where he's passed and work out what we need to do." Gately, who married his partner Andrew Cowles in a civil union in 2006, sent ripples through the pop music world 10 years ago when he announced that he was gay. He joined Boyzone in 1993 after answering an advert in Dublin to audition for Ireland's first boyband. The band went on to enjoy huge success with six number one singles in Britain, but split up in 2000. They reunited seven years later, but their recent 19-date Better tour failed to fill stadiums, despite offers of free tickets. Gately also starred in West End musicals in London, including "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Boyzone lead singer Keating was "completely distraught", the News of the World said, and former Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern paid tribute to Gately, whom he knew, on the BBC's Andrew Marr show. He said: "The Gatelys are in my own constituency. I know the family, I know Stephen. "He (Gately) was with us the other night with his boyfriend Andy, he came to my book launch." Ahern, whose daughter Georgina is married to Nicky Byrne of boyband Westlife, continued: "It's just such a tragedy. "Boyzone and Stephen, they've all been part of Irish life and far wider than that, the last 15 years, and so successful, so it's a huge, huge tragedy. It's so sad." Gately last posted a message on his Twitter page on October 6, writing: "Still busy, lots going on. Focusing on finishing my book next so may be quiet here." British actor and comedian Stephen Fry said on Twitter that he was shocked at the news. "Just heard the very sad news about dear Stephen Gately. What a dreadful shock. He was loveable and sweet natured and will be hugely missed."

Concerns raised over possible abuse of Jobs Credit Scheme Channel NewsAsia - Monday, October 12 SINGAPORE : The government is looking into whether the Jobs Credit Scheme fits into its long—term economic strategy for Singapore. It will announce its decision on the future of the scheme on Tuesday. But a more immediate concern for some workers is whether the scheme, which helps companies offset a portion of wage costs, is being abused. This was raised at a dialogue with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport, Lim Hwee Hua, on Sunday. It was Mrs Lim first ministerial walkabout since taking office in April. And her morning in Bishan began with a trolley race with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng — who is also MP for the area — and Education and Second Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen. This was followed by a quick game of woodball. Then it was on to more serious business — a dialogue with residents at the local community club. Questions ranged from neighbourhood issues, to concerns over public transport and the Jobs Credit Scheme. One resident asked: "What happens if an employer who is given the Jobs Credit misuses or abuses these subsidies?" Mrs Lim responded: "In a way, putting money back to the employers comes with the expectation that they will do what is in their best effort to reduce the need to retrench. But some businesses, in all fairness, would still need to restructure anyway. So I think we would need to look at the specifics of the case." Mrs Lim said retrenchments may not indicate abuse of the system. She added that abuse was also hard to define, as the subsidies go into the company’s cash flow. And it is up to the company to decide how it wants to use the government wage subsidy. Speaking to reporters later, Mrs Lim added that it is "technically difficult" to define what counts as abuse, as the scheme is a "blunt instrument" where the firm can decide how it wants to use the government wage subsidy. She explained: "Because it is basically cash to companies, it is technically difficult to define what is abuse, because it goes into cash flow. You also cannot judge that once a company has retrenched workers, it must be abusing the system, because some of them might just need to be restructured. "So I think it would be difficult to judge it quite quickly. But I think there is enough peer pressure out there for companies to feel like, if they had retrenched at the word go, they would feel quite bad about it. But if it is because of business circumstances, regardless of how hard they have tried, they still needed to retrench, then I think we would have to let market forces work its way." Mrs Lim also noted recent calls on the ground for the Jobs Credit Scheme to be extended, but she said that whether that happens depends on the economic outlook. However, Mrs Lim also stressed that the scheme was meant to be a short—term measure to save jobs, and in the longer term, the focus should be on improving worker productivity. On concerns that stallholders would be left jobless should wet markets be taken over by supermarket chains, Mrs Lim said the challenge would be to help them get new skills and find alternative jobs. She said: "The challenge for them, and for government, is not very different from those who have been rendered jobless from restructuring. So it is the same thing as those where the manufacturing activity has changed and they are now retrenched. We would then have to find new ways of re—skilling them, finding them alternatives so that they can continue to earn an income as well." CNA/ms

Newest Professions, Growing Salaries Larry Buhl, for Yahoo! HotJobs, Yahoo! HotJobs The latest directory of job titles from Occupational Information Network (O*Net) features a variety of new entries that many people have never heard before. Some of these jobs -- at least the duties -- have been around in some form for a while. What's new is a "professional pathway" for these careers, according to employment expert and author Laurence Shatkin. "O*Net officially recognizes job titles once there is a critical mass of workers in those jobs and a clear road map for attaining the positions," he says. Green Energy There are many new green-collar job titles on O*Net, which is developed for the U.S. Department of Labor. The number of new green jobs is not surprising, given the federal government's active role in building a green economy. Even before the federal stimulus dollars kicked in, wind energy was big and growing. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) reports that the wind industry grew by 45 percent in 2007 alone. Civil engineers who work on various aspects of the wind farm now have their own job category: wind farm engineers. These engineers work on performance of turbines and the overall performance of the wind farm and also oversee aspects of construction and mechanical development. They usually have a B.S. in engineering with a focus in construction or civil or structural engineering. Some technical colleges now offer degrees in wind farm engineering. AWEA pegs the average salary at $80,000. Solar thermal technicians design, develop, install, and maintain solar thermal systems used to heat water and produce energy. Renewable energy plants, companies that install solar panels for domestic use, construction companies, consulting firms, and hotel chains use these technicians. A degree (2- or 4-year) in mechanical engineering or electronics is helpful, but some apprenticeship programs exist as well. Salaries vary widely and will increase if demand continues to outstrip supply. Solar thermal technicians can expect to start at around $40,000 a year or $20 an hour, according to Red Rocks Community College in Colorado. The upper salary limit is a moving target, as the job category is emerging so quickly. Health Care Nursing informatics is a nursing specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice. Informatics nurse specialists are registered nurses trained in graduate level informatics. Salaries start at $60,000 but can more than double after a few years' experience. "Most often they are liaisons between clinicians and information and computer science people. These jobs are growing because information technology is now becoming a major tool in health-care settings," says Stacey Prince of the American Nurses Association. Anesthesiologist assistants work under the direction of a licensed and qualified anesthesiologist in hospitals. They perform preoperative tasks, support therapy, recovery room care, and intensive care support. They do well money-wise: around $90,000 to start and more than double that with 10 years of experience, according to the American Medical Association. A master's degree in nursing and certification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants are required. Business and Management The roles of IT professionals continue to splinter and become more specialized as new technologies dominate businesses. Business continuity planners are responsible for developing plans to recover from cyber attacks, terrorism, or natural disasters. They also may be responsible for scaling IT as a company grows (from regional to national, for example), duties that used to be handled by information systems managers. A bachelor's degree in business, management, or disaster management is the minimum requirement. The median salary for disaster recovery managers, who have a similar job description, is $100,000, according to salary.com. America's interest in getting healthy has led to a growing business specialization of spa managers, who are employed by resorts, health clubs, and other facilities offering sports and wellness activities. The median income for spa managers in the U.S. is $56,000. A college degree is not mandatory, but a high school diploma or GED and at least five years experience in the managing a related area are usually required. Education Distance learning, which provides instruction to students who are not on-site, is booming. O*Net now recognizes distance learning coordinators, who prepare and run online courses at colleges, trade schools and secondary schools. A master's degree instructional design, curriculum design, curriculum development is usually required, as is a strong understanding of Web-based technologies. The Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't yet recognize distance learning coordinators as a job category, but an analysis of job openings shows a range from the upper $30s to the low $60s for a coordinator with at least two years' experience. Entertainment and Media Video game designers have been around for a while, but as the $9 billion interactive entertainment industry matures, new specialties are emerging, such as user experience designer, which focuses solely on improving the user interaction. Designers can also move up to be creative directors as well. A college degree is still not mandatory everywhere, however, strong skills in computer programming, computer engineering, software development, computer animation, graphic design, and computer graphics -- or all of them -- are helpful. Big employers like Microsoft and Electronic Arts snag a large chunk of new designers, but smaller companies are starting to offer competitive wages and career tracks as well. Designers earn $50,000 and $80,000 annually, and the highest reported salary was $200,000, according to the International Game Developers Association. Social media is a specialty field of public relations that uses the growing social networking technologies, including RSS, Twitter, Facebook, and blogs. A few years ago, social media duties were performed by marketing managers or communications directors. Now there is a social media career track. An entry-level company blogger can earn less than $20 per hour (and many blogging jobs are part-time). A director of social media, the top of the social media chain, can pull in $70,000 or more. In the middle, a social media manager, can expect to earn around $50,000. A bachelor's degree is usually required, and job seekers should possess strong writing abilities and a keen understanding of online marketing, public relations, and new media.

AP: Anna Nicole Smith investigated in murder plot By MATT SEDENSKY, Associated Press Writer - Thursday, October 8 MIAMI – The FBI investigated whether Anna Nicole Smith plotted to kill her tycoon husband's son as they battled for his father's fortune, but the former Playboy Playmate who died in 2007 was never prosecuted, newly released files show. Smith's FBI records, obtained exclusively by The Associated Press, say the agency investigated Smith in 2000 and 2001 in a murder-for-hire plot targeting E. Pierce Marshall, who was at the center of a long legal fight to keep the starlet, model and stripper from collecting his father's oil wealth, valued in the hundreds of millions. The younger Marshall died three years ago of natural causes. The documents released under the Freedom of Information Act depict an investigation going on as the fight raged over J. Howard Marshall II's estate. Vast sections of the 100 pages of released materials _ a fraction of Smith's full FBI file _ are whited out, and no evidence of her involvement in such a plot is detailed. There is no indication how authorities became aware of any alleged scheme, but agents interviewed Smith on July 3, 2000. Told why she was being questioned, "Smith began crying and denied ever making such plans," a report said. "Smith adamantly denied ever contemplating such a crime," an agent wrote, and prosecutors eventually agreed the case could not go forward. An April 26, 2001, letter to the FBI from Sally Meloch, an assistant U.S. attorney, said she reviewed the reports but "determined that there is insufficient evidence to establish that there was a murder-for-hire plot by Ms. Smith to kill Pierce Marshall." Reached at her Los Angeles office on Tuesday, Meloch didn't recall the case, but said, "Any investigations that we didn't proceed with, we couldn't comment on anyway." An attorney for Smith's estate, Kent Richland, was surprised by the allegations. "I have not heard anything about that," he said. An attorney for the Marshall estate, including for the younger Marshall's widow, said he couldn't immediately comment. Smith was 26 when she wed the 89-year-old Marshall, owner of Great Northern Oil Co., whose wealth was estimated by Forbes to be $550 million in 1992. They met while she was a topless dancer at a Texas strip club. He died of natural causes in 1995, little more than a year after they wed. His son died in 2006 at age 67 of an infection and Smith died of a drug overdose a year later at age 39 after collapsing in her South Florida hotel room. The FBI files show a .357-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver was confiscated from Smith's home, along with a 3 1/2-inch stainless steel knife and, for reasons that were not explained, a black and orange hat described as "Dr. Seuss." All three objects were returned to her about seven months later. Agents reviewed tape recordings of phone calls involving Smith during their investigation, though transcripts were not included in the released materials. Among the things that were included were agents' scribblings in spiral-bound notebooks, accounts of Smith's past arrests for drunken driving and battery, and an interview of the younger Marshall. In that June 27, 2000 interview, Marshall said Smith rarely spent time with his father after their 1994 marriage and said his father complained that she asked for $50,000 to $60,000 twice a week. Smith's lawyer and companion Howard K. Stern and two doctors, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, are charged in California with helping the model obtain drugs that ultimately killed her. All have pleaded not guilty. The dispute between Smith and the Marshall estate has bounced around courts for years. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously in 2006 that Smith could pursue her late husband's fortune, overturning an appellate decision, which continues to be fought in California. The money became a factor after Smith's death, too, with Stern, her mother, and another boyfriend all fighting over an estate that ultimately will go to her daughter, who is now 3.

OUCH !!!...Saudi gets 5 years in jail for frank TV sex talk By DONNA ABUNASR,Associated Press Writer - Thursday, October 8 RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – A Saudi court on Wednesday convicted a man for publicly talking about sex after he bragged on a TV talk show about his exploits, sentencing him to five years in jail and 1,000 lashes, his lawyer said. Talking about sex publicly is a taboo in ultraconservative Saudi Arabia. Lawyer Sulaiman al-Jumeii said he plans to appeal the court's ruling and is confident the sentence against his client, which includes a ban on travel and talking to the media for five years after his release, will be revoked. The lawyer said there is no specific law in the Saudi penal code "that defines punishment for talking or bragging." He said he assumes the judge based his decision on Islamic law, which forms the general basis of the justice system and stipulates that people should not talk about engaging in immoral behavior. Al-Jumeii maintains that his client, Mazen Abdul-Jawad, was duped by the Lebanese LBC satellite channel which aired the talk show and was unaware in many cases he was being recorded. "I hope you will not consider the case closed," the lawyer said. "I will continue pursuing the TV channel, even if no one stands by me, until it gets the punishment it deserves." The program, which aired July 15 on LBC and was seen in Saudi Arabia, scandalized this conservative country where such frank talk is rarely heard in public. Some 200 people filed legal complaints against Abdul Jawad, who works for the national airline. The program, "Bold Red Line," begins with Abdul-Jawad, dubbed a "sex braggart" and "Casanova" by the media, describing the first time he had sex at 14. He then leads viewers into his bedroom, dominated by red accessories, and then shows off blurred sex toys. He is later joined by three male friends for a discussion on what turns them on. Abdul-Jawad's lawyer maintains his client was referring to other people's sexual experiences and the toys were provided by the TV station. The government moved swiftly in the wake of the case, shutting down LBC's two offices in the kingdom and arresting Abdul-Jawad. The other three men on the show were also convicted of discussing sex publicly and sentenced to two years imprisonment and 300 lashes each, according to al-Jumeii. The case itself was also tried before the wrong court, maintains the lawyer, who says it should have been heard by a specialized court at the Information Ministry qualified to issue decisions regarding editing, dubbing and other technical issues related to the case. In his statement, al-Jumeii said the decision in the case was made "under pressure from public opinion" due to the media frenzy surrounding it. He also said he will continue pursuing a lawsuit he has filed against LBC. The kingdom, which is the birthplace of Islam, enforces strict segregation of the sexes. An unrelated couple, for example, can be detained for being alone in the same car or having a cup of coffee in public. Saudis observe such segregation even at home, where they have separate living rooms for male and female guests.

Is she an exam cheat as well ?...Ris Low ordered by court not to shop alone Channel NewsAsia - Wednesday, October 7 SINGAPORE: Former Miss Singapore World Ris Low was back in court on Tuesday and ordered by a district judge not to go into a shopping mall unaccompanied by a family member. In a review of her 24—month supervised probation, District Judge May Mesenas also reminded Ms Low to take her probation seriously. It was revealed on Tuesday that Ms Low had to re—take her examinations at the Management Development Institute of Singapore after invigilators found revision notes in her pencil box in August. Ms Low claimed that she had forgotten to remove them. Her lawyer, Mr Sng Kheng Huat, assured the court that his client remained committed to serving her probation, and would undertake not to repeat the mistake. The District Judge also told Ms Low, who stayed silent during the 10—minute hearing, to continue with her medical treatment and medication. The 19—year—old suffers from bipolar disorder. On May 5, two months before she won the pageant, she pleaded guilty to five cheating and criminal misappropriation charges, with 60 other charges being taken into consideration. Over two months last year, she had spent almost S$8,000 on items such as gold anklets, mobile phones, lingerie and meals in luxury restaurants using seven credit cards that did not belong to her. Ms Low, who gave up her crown last month after the scandal over her conviction made the headlines, will appear at another probation review in three months’ time. TODAY/so Main sponsor might sue Miss Singapore World organiser Channel NewsAsia - Wednesday, October 7 SINGAPORE: After the controversy, legal action could follow. One of the main sponsors of the Miss Singapore World 2009 pageant has sent lawyers’ letters to organiser ERM World Marketing. Young And Healthy said in a press release on Tuesday that it "has been affected in its business and suffered losses" due to the "uncertainty" over Ms Ris Low’s replacement in next month’s finals in South Africa. The beauty supplements company said there were "questions which needed to be answered", such as whether ERM knew of Ms Low’s conviction for credit card fraud before it was reported in the press on September 25. Acting for the sponsor, Clifford Law had written to ERM last Friday, and extended the deadline for ERM’s reply from Monday to Tuesday. The organiser has since replied through its lawyers, but Young And Healthy claimed their questions "were not answered". Clifford Law’s Michael Loh told MediaCorp that ERM will be "accorded a reasonable period" to respond further. When contacted, ERM events director Tracy Lee declined further comment. The one—page statement ended with: "Our clients will weigh their options accordingly." One of the options, said Mr Loh, would be to sue ERM. TODAY/so

Letterman says wife "horribly hurt" by sex scandal Reuters - October 5, 2009 3:29 PM PDT NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian David Letterman said on Monday his wife has been "horribly hurt" by revelations of his sexual affairs exposed in an extortion plot against him and he apologized to staff of his popular late-night talk show. The host of "Late Show with David Letterman" said in the taping of his Monday show that he will try to patch things up with Regina, whom he married in March after dating for more than 20 years. The two have a 5-year-old son, Harry. "She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it," Letterman told audiences, according to a statement from his company, Worldwide Pants. "And at that point, there's only two things that can happen: either you're going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you're going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me." He said he was "terribly sorry that I put the staff in that position. Inadvertently, I just wasn't thinking ahead ... my thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I've gotten myself involved in." On Thursday, Letterman told audiences he had been victimized in an extortion plot by a man who threatened to write a screenplay or book about "all the terrible stuff" Letterman had done. The talk show host then admitted to having had sexual affairs with women employed by his show. One day later, Robert "Joe" Halderman, a producer for CBS news program "48 Hours," was indicted on a charge of grand larceny for seeking $2 million in hush money from Letterman. Halderman faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. On Monday, Halderman's attorney Gerald Shargel took to U.S. morning talk shows to proclaim his client's innocence and say that Letterman's version of the story was only one side. "David Letterman didn't give his (Halderman's) side of the story, David Letterman gave what he wanted the public to know," Shargel said on NBC's "Today" show. "He wanted to get out ahead of the story, and that's exactly what he did," Shargel said of Letterman. Shargel said it was unlikely that Halderman would have sought to extort Letterman by taking a $2 million check, because that is not how extortionists normally operate. He declined to detail what may be his client's defense, but added that the veteran journalist has reported on crime stories for years. "He knows all about cops and wiretaps. And to suggest that he was trapped in an extortion plot is preposterous," the attorney said. Shargel said he looked forward to questioning Letterman on the witness stand. Court documents show Halderman owed an ex-wife $6,800 a month in child and spousal support, and authorities have said he is deep in debt. Indonesia's 'unlucky' president takes quake blame AFP - Sunday, October 4 JAKARTA (AFP) - – Some superstitious Indonesians are blaming a supposedly "unlucky" president -- and not shifting tectonic plates -- for the latest earthquake in this disaster-prone country. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, popularly known by his initials SBY, has long been burdened by murmurs that he carries with him the shadow of cosmic misfortune. A string of disasters both natural and man-made since his election in 2004, including the Indian Ocean tsunami that killed 220,000 across Asia, has seen quips that SBY stands for "Selalu Bencana Ya", roughly meaning "Always A Disaster". The latest catastrophe, believed to have killed upwards of 1,100 people with another buried 4,000 under rubble, is viewed by many in this Muslim-majority country of 234 million as yet more proof that SBY's stars are crossed. Related article: Disaster leaves villages buried "SBY, because of his birth date, will always attract disasters to this country, according to the Primbon (a Javanese almanac of mysticism)" Permadi, a veteran politician from the opposition Gerindra party and practising shaman, told AFP. "Just look at the numbers of his birth date -- the ninth of the ninth, '49 -- that's unlucky. The more he holds on to power, the more great disasters will happen," he said. If Yudhoyono stays president, "a much bigger disaster will strike Jakarta for sure," Permadi said, referring to the Indonesian capital. "If SBY had a big heart, he would step down." Not everyone believes this theory -- and many see SBY's birthday as enviably lucky -- but such talk of supernatural misfortune has deep resonance in Indonesia, where Islam and Christianity are for many merged with older traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism and animism. The criticism has been long-standing enough that Yudhoyono lectured local government heads in the quake-hit region of West Sumatra two years ago that they should blame the region's volatile geology, and not him. "Magma doesn't move because SBY has become president. It's malicious to link it to me being president," he was quoted as saying at the time. Even the Jakarta Post, one of the top-selling English dailies, suggested a link between the disaster and the extravagance of politicians in a Sunday editorial entitled "The Gods Must Be Angry". "Whether you subscribe to the theological or secular explanation, the 7.6-magnitude quake that killed more than 1,100 people came on the eve of the multi-billion-rupiah inauguration ball for newly elected members of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representative Council in Jakarta," it said. Political analyst Bima Arya Sugiarto said that while some, particularly opposition politicians, try to paint the president as a spiritual liability, there are benefits for him in Indonesians' gaze beyond the physical world. Criticism of the often slow aid response, and the poor planning that allowed shoddy buildings to spring up in the first place, has been muted by fatalism and a widespread belief that the disaster is God's will, Sugiarto said. "The mystical perspective or the religious perspective is more dominant than public criticism of government policies," he said. Indonesian media have carried accounts of divine symbols in the aftermath of the quake, including a ring-shaped sun surrounded by a rainbow and God's name inscribed in Arabic calligraphy in the clouds. In the devastated city of Padang, a commonly heard refrain has been that the quake is a test, or a punishment, ordained by God. "I think the quake happened because many of the youths in Padang commit sins, especially during Ramadan," chicken-feed factory worker Yasrizat, 36, said near a mosque in the city. "They've been engaging in sinful activities by the beach. I think God is punishing us with this quake."

Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop,' Dies at Age 50

AP Exclusive: Autopsy shocker: Jackson was healthy By THOMAS WATKINS,Associated Press Writer - Friday, October 2 LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson's arms were covered with punctures, his face and neck were scarred and he had tattooed eyebrows and lips, but he wasn't the sickly skeleton of a man portrayed by tabloids, according to his autopsy report obtained by The Associated Press. In fact, the Los Angeles County coroner's report shows Jackson was a fairly healthy 50-year-old before he died of an overdose. His 136 pounds were in the acceptable range for a 5-foot-9 man. His heart was strong with no sign of plaque buildup. And his kidneys and most other major organs were normal. Still, Jackson had health issues: arthritis in the lower spine and some fingers, and mild plaque buildup in his leg arteries. Most serious was his lungs, which the autopsy report said were chronically inflamed and had reduced capacity that might have left him short of breath. However, according to the document, the lung condition was not serious enough to be a direct or contributing cause of death. "His overall health was fine," said Dr. Zeev Kain, chairman of the anesthesiology department at the University of California, Irvine, who reviewed a copy of the autopsy report for the AP. "The results are within normal limits." Kain was not involved in the autopsy. The full autopsy report has not been released publicly, but the AP obtained a copy. Jackson died at his rented Los Angeles mansion June 25 after his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, administered the anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives to get the chronic insomniac to sleep, court documents state. Propofol, normally a surgical anesthetic used in operating rooms, acts as a respiratory depressant and requires constant monitoring, Murray told police he left the room to use the bathroom and phone records show he also made calls for 47 minutes around the time Jackson encountered problems. When Murray realized Jackson was unresponsive, he began frantic efforts to revive him, but Jackson never regained consciousness and was declared dead at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center. The coroner's office announced last month that Jackson's death was a homicide caused by "acute propofol intoxication," with the other sedatives listed as a contributing factor. They said the standard of care for administering propofol was not met and the recommended equipment for patient monitoring, precision dosing and resuscitation was missing. Murray is the target of what Los Angeles police term a manslaughter investigation. The decision on criminal charges will come from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Murray has been interviewed twice by police. Except for a brief video posted to YouTube, Murray has not spoken publicly since Jackson's death. In the video, he said: "I told the truth and I have faith the truth will prevail." Murray's attorney, Edward Chernoff, previously has said nothing Murray gave Jackson "should have" killed him. Jackson was declared dead a little more than two hours after paramedics were called. Evidence of the desperate struggle to save the star were evident on his body. He had chest bruising and cracked ribs from CPR, and a mechanical device known as a balloon pump was inserted into his heart to try to restart it, according to the autopsy report. Jackson's body was taken by helicopter to the coroner's office where the following morning Chief Medical Examiner Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran and Dr. Christopher Rogers carried out an extensive review and ordered a toxicology screening to look for drugs in his system. Aside from propofol and the sedatives, the only substances found in his system were the local anesthetic, Lidocaine, sometimes used to numb injection sites and ephedrine, a commonly used resuscitation stimulant. No other drugs _ legal or otherwise _ were detected, nor was any alcohol. Kain said he was surprised that three other sedatives, known as benzodiazepines, were present with propofol. Anesthesiologists sometimes mix one "benzo" with propofol to help put a patient under, but using three increases the danger for the patient. "People don't mix the benzodiazepines together because they interact with each other and increase the risk of respiratory arrest," Kain said, adding it was likely Jackson first stopped breathing and then suffered cardiac arrest. The autopsy findings cut off a potential defense for Murray _ that Jackson hid serious pre-existing conditions that increased the risk of death from the drugs he willingly took. Even if he did hide a condition such as his weakened lungs, a prosecutor could argue Murray should have detected the condition before administering drugs, said Michael Brennan, a clinical law professor at the University of Southern California who specializes in criminal defense. "A doctor has some obligation to know what his patient's physical condition is," Brennan said. "The doctor is going to try to substantiate whatever the patient told him ... and not simply rely on a patient's descriptions of his physical condition." At the time of his death Jackson was preparing for a series of comeback concerts in London. Rehearsals were rigorous and there were questions about whether Jackson would be physically able to hold up. But aside from his lungs, the autopsy report did not identify any serious physical problems that might have limited Jackson's ability to perform. It also provided details about his physical state from head to toes. He had a 3/4-inch scar behind his left ear and another apparent scar behind his right ear. He had a scar beside each of his nostrils and another, 4-inch scar on his right shoulder. He had a pair of additional scars about 3-inches long at the base of his neck and smaller scars on his arms and wrist. He also had a small scar near his navel and a 2-inch scar on the right-hand side of his abdomen. Kain said most of the scars appeared to be from plastic surgery though others, like a scar on the knee, could have been from a medical procedure. The medical examiner found numerous punctures on both arms and on a knee and ankle. The leg punctures could have been from intravenous therapies not described in the autopsy report, Kain said. Jackson had several tattoos, all them cosmetic, including dark tattoos in the areas of both eyebrows and under his eyes, and a pink tattoo around his lips. He was going bald at the front of his head, with his remaining hair described as short and tightly curled. The bald part of his scalp was darkened with what appeared to be a tattoo stretching across the top of his head from ear to ear. The coroner found depigmentation of his skin around his chest, abdomen, face and arms. The coroner also found Jackson was actively producing sperm. Details of Michael Jackson autopsy By The Associated Press The Associated Press – Thu Oct 1, 12:47 pm ET Here are some of the findings from the Los Angeles County coroner's autopsy of Michael Jackson: • He was 5-foot-9 and weighed 136 pounds. • There were dark tattoos on his eyebrows and around his eyes, a pink tattoo around his lips and what appeared to be a dark tattoo on the front of his scalp. • He was balding and suffered from a skin disease that reduced pigment and left patches of white skin. • Osteoarthritis was visible in the lower spine and some fingers. • He had multiple scars around his body, including behind his ears, along one shoulder, at the base of his neck and near his navel. • His heart was strong but his lungs were inflamed. Other organs appeared normal. • The anesthetic propofol, four other sedatives, the pain killer Lidocaine and a resuscitative drug were found in Jackson's system. His stomach had no discernible pills. • No illegal drugs or alcohol were detected. • The manner of death was ruled a homicide based, in part, on the propofol being administered in a non-hospital setting without any appropriate medical need. • Consistent with CPR attempts, Jackson had a bruised chest and his sternum and several ribs were fractured. -
Heh Heh...are U one of them ??? Psychiatrist: One pervert in every 10 patients Wed, Sep 30, 2009 AsiaOne Out of every 10 patients he sees, one is diagnosed as a pervert, says a psychiatrist. Most of the time, patients suffering from perversion do not dare to seek medical help until they are caught by the law or their condition is discovered by a family member, reported Shin Min Daily News. Dr Tan Chue Tin, consultant psychiatrist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, said that 10 per cent of his patients were afflicted with perversion. Of these, 70 per cent were male. He said: "I believe this number is actually higher as majority of people suffering from perversion do not seek medical help." Perversion is not a rare condition in Singapore. Psychiatrists point out that people suffering from perversion usually come from dysfunctional families and symptoms vary between males and females. Male perverts are typically introverts who lack confidence. Because they fear interaction with the opposite sex, they usually resort to using women's undergarments to stimulate themselves. Another form of perversion they indulge in is voyeurism, the act of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviour. Psychiatrist Dr Yeo Seem Huat said he knew of a local manager who had both his marriages ruined because he enjoyed watching his wives having sex with other men. Female perverts are usually sex addicts. He said: "Such women sleep around and have a lot of partners, putting them at a very high risk of sexually transmitted diseases." Last week, Chong Weien, 28, was put on trial for outraging the modesty of a female undergraduate. He was jailed 15 months and given three strokes of the cane. Chong is now appealing the sentence, claiming that he suffers from spontaneous ejaculation, a condition where he ejaculates without physical stimulation. He also claims that it is a psychological condition. However, many psychiatrists have expressed that they have not come across such a condition. Most of the time, men who ejaculate without being touched do so through nocturnal emissions or 'wet dreams'.

Shocked Surfers Find Shark On Cornish Beach Saturday, September 26 06:50 pm ©Sky News 2009 Surfers got a "nasty shock" at discovering a 12ft shark that had been washed up on a beach in Cornwall. The thresher shark was found on Hayle beach by the surfers who thought it was a dolphin. It had a 6ft long body, with a tail of the same length, and is estimated to weigh around 440lb. Dave Jarvis, from Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network, has formally identified the shark that was found on Wednesday. "The surfers who found it thought it was a dolphin so they got a nasty shock when they got closer and saw it was a shark," he said. "It was in good condition, there were no marks on it so we don't know how it died." Thresher sharks are native to UK waters but it is unusual for them to be washed up in this way. Mr Jarvis said he could not think of another that had washed up in recent years in Cornwall. "They don't pose any threat to humans, if they did decide to go for you it would take a lump out of you but they only have a small mouth and two rows of teeth so its not like Jaws," he said. "I've never heard of anyone being attacked by one." Thresher sharks can grow up to 20ft in length. In 2007 a trawler fisherman caught a 16ft thresher shark off the coast off Land's End, Cornwall.
