Not any bleenie lah. Must be algae bleenie. When the real algae stop, Mr. Bleenie starve loh. If you really worries for him, buy Spirulina for him loh. I worry if I feed him something else, he stop gazing algae. As for shrimp, I never come across any shrimp that eats algae. So dun bet on it. Algae bleenie, not all LFS has, but aquamarin have it loh.

Ya, it still early, I concur. Anyway, PO4 removal controls algae growth not remove algae. Also, You are missing a algae blennie. But not all algae bleenie is as hardworking as mind. In one week all algae on the rock gone except sand. Go to LFS, look at all the algae bleenie, watch them for a while, identify one that is always gazing algae. That how I got my super algae bleenie, now he starving... It my 2rd bleenie, the 1st lazy like pig, gaze nothing and dissappear.. Remember chemical control algae not remove.

Your book suggested no sand? Interesting! What is plenum filter method anyway? Anyone care to enlighten? I thought most filtration are common sense... after a while we in the hobbie.

Dun tell me you using NO now. The anemone and button, need some decent lights. Go get a at least 2 tube of T5, 1 x actinic and 1 x 20000K or 10000K with E-ballast. Better will be 4 tube. I guess the anemone and button will expand as they dun have enuf lights.

You need a fishing rod...

fading colour of fish over time.
nakazoru replied to raynaz's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Yes Hypo removes ich and parasites. Your BF with milky eyes means it has weak immune system and are parasite prone. I'm not good at curing milky eyes but have successfully removed ich with hypo. I mixed food with garlic until fish is healthy again. I no longer apply medication, as it never seems to save my fishes but make matter worst. I notice fishes that are not eating have very low chances of survival when they are sick. Once they eat, they have very good chance. -
Aiya, it is a monopoly so you just pay loh. Otherwise not electricity to your house. What can you do? Boycott them? Sue Them? Report Police? Go see MP? This is our country, our system, our semi-democratic society. I really wish you can find a way to slap their face....

Regards to tank cycling after crash
nakazoru replied to jimmyz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Clear the debris. No addition. Just top up water according. Wait it out for 2 weeks - 1 month. Add cycle additive weekly. For me, I will probably add carbon at the end of this recovery period. Priority is to bring down the paraemters. I like to add chemical filtrate last to give a final touch... No rushing anymore, just wait. -
Seems like you need a buddy to guide you in setting this tank. Let bros know where u stay, maybe can have a coffee session and give you some tips mah... Otherwise, you will kill many fishes before being successful...

Dun bother with Shanghai, or whole of China. Fresh water yes, marine, you have to give up. Also they dun sell high tech stuff....

Anyone can help me get clear water
nakazoru replied to mazdadan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I only get sand dust if the sand is not rinse throughoutly. Did you rinse it good? But my filtration always clears the milky/dusty water after 2-3 hrs when sand settles down. Strange.... Care to describe what you have for filtration? -
Well I shall not deal with medication as I stop using it but it involves adding activated carbon after the final stage of medication Copper, I never use before as I dislike the idea of introducing even slight trace of copper to my main tank. Carbon dun remove copper, so I dun know how to reintroduce a copper treated fishes back to the main tank.. Hypo:- Slowly increase the salinity back to normal over 2 days after confirming fish is free of parasite. Reintroduce FISHES USING DRIP METHOD.

Maybe we should also look into backup generator so that power will kick in if there is a prolong trip. Confirm fail safe. Backup the one most important equipment that will prevent the tank from crashing with UPS. You decide. If trip happens more than 4 hrs and no one is home, then chances is every thing crashes... UPS design comes in 2 things, UPS and batteries bank. Need at least a diploma to design one. So just keep it simple. One UPS support one tunze. Please dun fool around with electrical if you have no idea. UPS and batteries is a combination, both are rated. If you wants the UPS to charge more batteries that it can charge, it will not, if lucky you burn some fuse or burn some PCB. It may also trigger the UPS in bypass with no backup. Most APC UPS is designed to provide enuf power for you to shut down the PC/servers safely, not crashing the PC/servers. It is not a life-support system. Backup generator is a must in hospital, they dun use UPS.

I thought NO will be enuf for FOWLR... for good viewing.... Maybe still tempted to put some mushroom in?

The tomato clown will take it one at a time. It will definitely attack the other well one if the weak one perish. Dun bet on it that it will be okay. Check if anyone wants to adopt the tomato clown. For me I rather keep the percula... Decide fast. Once the attack stop, the clown will recover over time provided she eats...

Dun be alarm, but be resolute. Go to your meter and check how fast is the meter running. Then you can do a average consumption base on the rate of change. Faulty equipment sometime consume more power, like fridge, chiller, aircon - power sucker - faulty temp controller. It may not be the tank that causes the hike in electricity. Forgeting to off power of electrical appliance may be the cause like aircon. But quite unlikely that it more than doubled. Do homework before going to Sing Power...

Once the fishes goes into the main tank, you will have a hard time getting one out unless you remove the rocks. But stress the rest of the fishes up. Dottyback like to hide in rocks so it will make matter worst.

Anyone can help me get clear water
nakazoru replied to mazdadan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Yes use activated carbon, you get crystal clear water. -
I always like 2 island concept, and slowly joint the 2 island. LR I bought mine at Lim Chu Kang, but most LFS sells them.

UPS can last longer if equipment is of lower consumption. Don't let those sales people confuse you, they dun know shit. All the 230V UPS definitely gives you 230VAC (alternating current). I do not know about those none industrial grade taiwan or china brand. All UPS I used at work even PC grade APC UPS, delivers what they promises. If you buy CE certified brand chances nothing will go wrong. But do remember batteries has a limited lifespan. Max 5 years replacement, some 3 years. I come across many UPS at yahoo auction for S$50 so check it out but low KA. My guess is if you use APC for 20W, it will last 1 hrs to 2.5 hrs, depending on the states of the batt.

fading colour of fish over time.

You need to get additives for your tank's nutrients. Like trace elements, Iodine, maybe some other stuff I not using. This the two I used. Otherwise fishes and reefs will loss it coloration. -
Are aptasia dangerous?
nakazoru replied to KennethK's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
No harm if you dun want any coral or anemone in your hobbie. Otherwise all must go. They stink your coral and stuff. You can't control them, when you get the hang of this hobbie, apitasia will becomes very dull for you tank. You will like more challenges. -
Your QT's water should comes from your main tank. I Quarantine all my fishes. A MUST for me. Do not trust the appearance of your fish, stress causes ich to appear when it comes home. When doing QT, no need for medication. Just monitor the fish for: 1. ich 2. rubbing of its body against rocks or glass, other parasites. Parasites appears within 1 week normally, I keep my new fishes in QT for 1 month. If parasites exists then you medicate or hypo. I no longer medicate but only adopt hypo as it is the best solution so far accompany with garlic mixed feeds. My QT runs a cheapo hand-on filtration.

Aiya; Hermit crap dun always eats algae, they munch on tube worm, shrimp if they can get their hands on. Algae, I never see him cleaning it. I gave up hermit as cleaners long time ago. My crew now is 2 turbo snail and a always hungry algae bleenie. Now not enuf aglae and starving... Boxer shrimp is a stupidly aggressive shrimp. It thinks it can out combat every habitant in the tank, eveytime wants to one - to - one. Mad shrimp. My advice: FORGET THE HERMIT, NOT WORTH IT. THEY ARE SCAVENGER, NOT VEGETARIAN.
