Yea, I understood that electrical shock is a concern. My tank does not have air bubble splashing so I guess it is all right, but salt do get crystalize so how outside the tank. My intent is to use 24V fan instead of 230V, and adding 24V 0.05 A fuse to the installation, so I dun worry about the short circuit. As for the dust, I guss that will go into my maintenance schedule. hahaha . I love to have a chiller but my tank have no cabinet for sump, chiller or even the canister filter I have now. These make my living room ugly you know. Every thing sits outside. My wife complains that the equipment is a eye sore in the living room... especially after spenting ID to reno the house. Even now, electrical bill average at 250SGD monthly , I can't imagine adding a chiller..... Crazy oil prices, it is a monopoly, dame the OPEC

2 deg is great. Evaporation is really that great. My tank is always at 29 -30 deg. Must really get down to installing it. I think I understand it to blow at the water now. Thank you guys.

Do not buy any other stuff as you are still quite ignorant to marine life. The white stuff you mention is reacting to you new tank, may not be growing. Is it like a sponge? Yes you get all sort of hitchiker when you buy LR. You cure them if you do not want them. They are for free, some good, some bad. If your tank have no fishes, drop the salinity to 1.08 and most will perish. Then you clear their bodies. This includes the good hitchiker. Good or bad is quite subjective, so you decide. Read on new tank setup which only allows fishes at 1 - 2 months time, check you water, good luck

But was it not a fact that hot air rises thus blowing it out on the top removes the hot air. By introducing vent in the hood enhances air circulation. I was thinking of blowing in also, but most air cool mechanical design (not fish tank) has incoming cooling air at the side or bottom and outgoing hot air on the top. But fish tank, we can't have that design since fan is confined to the top.

I'm going to install 2 fan in my hood to cool the tank. My tank has a enclosed hood. Bros out here, do you suggest the fan to blow into the tank or outward to acheive best cooling.

If your anemone have not stop moving, chances is that it will not stop so easily as he will forever unable to find the location that suits it. Investigate if your tank is suited for anemone, or soon it will say bye bye to you. Read up. They are light, current dependent.

RO/DI water are simply filtered water that removes impurities of sub-micron. Big investment if you care. Typical RO/DI water are almost free of chlorine, PHO4 etc. Filter elements needs replacement after a certain period of time. I do my top-up using dechlorinated tap water. Generally tap water adds to algae, but control the filtration will help minimise algae. Currently I topping up with distilled water off the shelf from NTUC to experiment if algae will be eliminated. Cost at 80cents per 1.5L. Just a experiment, not cost effective on a long run.

Web got lots of ideal water parms, should look it up. Nonetheless: Specific Gravity 1.023 - 1.025 Temperature 72 - 78°F pH 8.1 - 8.4 Alkalinity 8 - 12 dKH Ammonia (NH3) 0 Nitrite (NO2) 0 Nitrate (NO3) 1.0 ppm Phosphate (PO4) < 0.2 ppm Calcium 350 - 450 ppm Magnesium 1250 - 1350 ppm Iodine 0.06 - 0.10 ppm Strontium 8 - 14 ppm Good luck

Do you guys quarantine the coral or treat the coral before placing in the main tank?

Seems like a good idea. As I see HO is only 24W each, which worry me if it will not be enough. But I hardly see this PLs in any LFS. Anywhere I can get to see this equipment? Also hood is not solid wood but PVCs so a little filmsy, need to tink properly before design.

Where to get nice ricordeas/mushrooms/zoos?
nakazoru replied to szesteve's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Reborn is most affortable and well organised but renovating still. AquaMarin is good/organised too but more costly. See the sponsor thread for address. Reborn at Lavender and Aquamarin at Jalan Kayu. Pasir Ris farm also have but I never been there, too far. -
Agreed with you on the effect. 2 timer which I already have. Problem is that the timer is bulky. i will seriously think about it and forget the hassle. Everything I DIY as Hood is customed-made. Worst I going China next week.... Next, these are the stuff I want, any problem with light I convert to? 1. Lavender Mushroom 2. Colony Polyp 3. Candy Cane Coral 4. Bulk Anemone 5. Cabbage Leather Coral

Sorry, I will not be going for MH because of 1. This 30G Tank is a enclosed and very near the water surface thus too hot. 2. MH means I need a chiller thus cost increases. Damage will be > 500SGD 3. No space for additional chiller as I do not have a cabinet. Elbiru T5 eBallast and a pair of Aquaz 10K T5 tubes seems like a econmical way to go. 1 actinic blue, 1 white (6,500 or 10,000 K) with own timer seems too much of a hassle. I'm including 1 timer only. I do like the combination. 1 actinic blue and 1 white combo seems to create a romantic feel to the tank. I do like it. 2 x 10,000K seems to intense white. But end of the day, which will LPS strive in? Is there special requirement for starter? Equipment: 1. 30G Corner Tank 2. 2 x 2 ft NO FL 3. 3" Grade 0 sand 4. Live rocks. 5. Jebao 3 Tier Canister Filter (Resin, Activated Carbon, Bio-home) 6. 1200L/hr power filter to act as power head. Live Stock: 1. Clarke Clown x 1 2. 4 stripe Demsel x 1 3. Yellow Tail Demsel x 1 Dead: 1 of each above and 2 domino demsel as I in China for 1 year, wife overfed them causing water to cloud. Came back now, heart ach...

I am changing FOWLR to LPS. I have a NO balast with 2 NO FL tube. In the progress of converting to E-balast and T5 HO. My tank is 30G 1.5 ft deep. My hood can only accomodate 2 FL tube. Any recommendation on the brand of E-balast and what combination of T5 HO tube should I buy (2 only)?

Yo; They dun service their product as it was sold cheap. They are from China, so go china and find, chances they also dun do servicing. However, I do have a ATMAN 3337 in my store, so what exactly is your problem? Maybe I can help, if you need spare...

This guy is a air cool tube. Air cool meant "compress air" where temp is lower by high pressured air... The tube alone does not cool. You need to either buy compressed gas tank on a regular basis or buy big air compressor to do the job. You are looking at a thousand dollar project.... Chiller is for home, this guy for industrial application.

Dun know if it is a good idea to remove it. As these Hairy Algae will compete with micro-algae for nutrients. Keep Diatom etc in check. Better to have hairy algae than diatom. These are macro-algae. Alway easy to remove by adding 2 cabbage slug, all gone in days, after that slugs starve...

Anyone out there has succeed in keeping a coral without a chiller? Care to share? Like what type of coral, what kind of lightings etc. I like to know as I want to add coral to my 1.5 year old LR tank. But no space for chiller and additional setup.

I have a similar skimmer and notice some pink residue some 2 months back. Mine is due to the fish food, I think. So I guess so long the water parameters and the water is clear. It doesn't matter. Fishes are doing well
