  1. Errr, 90% of fishes that I buy from LFS is infected with parasites, white spot being most common. Either always scratching to ride of white spots. I take on a 100% QT procedure. Just bought a sabae clown, last sunday, 3 days in QT already scratch it body. Going to execute hypo tomorrow... I trust that all the LFS fish are ich infested, so be aware.
  2. Worst will be when I complete my T5 light set replacement, expected by this friday. The algae will grow even slower with the new lights... 2 actinic, 1 10K and 1 20K Maybe I go cultivate diatom to feed him...
  3. Aiyo, your blenny is the same as my first one. Dun really eats algae... This my second one for 1 month, watch this silly fellow for 15 mins gazing in LFS. Always gazing... Bought it and never seems to stop gazing in my tank. I have never seen it eating any flakes that I fed the other fishes. A very strict vegie guy.
  4. Aiya; Interested but notting to swop with lah.
  5. So far... If not enuf people, the I come and play, otherwise really too far. Sure got court or not?
  6. Guys; My blenny really starving now, clear all diatom with 2 snail. Now it is even gazing glass and sand. Really poor thing. Should I feed it some spirulina?? What if it stops gazing algae after that?? Any experience to share? I even stop cleaning tank glass so that it have something to gaze... But it did a lousy job as mouth not even.
  7. The tank size and shape really depends on how you want it to look in ur living room... Also depends on how you wants to do the landscaping. As lights I would go for T5, as PLs availability may be quite difficult, not many LFS carries.....
  8. If your bioload has been consistence, or slightly high, slight ammonia trace will be there mah.
  9. Customs in Bankok is all right. Coming back to Singapore will be a little troublesome if custom stop you but generally will let you pass since it is a hobby.
  10. Use a magnetic cleaner loh. For me I use a toothbrush as I have a waist height 30G tank. Easy to access the tank.
  11. Suprise that to see reef safe medication works for some people.... I thought it was the most condemned cure in SRC. Wonder who voted for that, yet no one mention anything abt reef safe medication in this thread. Maybe 5 LFS voted so that there will still be people buy reef safe medication. Hypo and fresh water dip is almost costless.. Speculation... Those voted Reef safe care to comment?
  12. The whole world's ocean is poluted, all fish farm/kelong use sea water, that why we have AVA to lab test all the food imports to test the chemical content... Though I never try but I think if we run sea water in our tank we will survive but I will like to filter with carbon and resin (skimmer better)first... Also too heavy to transport wah... Car will smell like fish...
  13. Yep, on the light does make your brown algae grow. It will grow faster if you have a redder spectrum of lights (i.e boom). Otherwise blueer spectrum coraline will grow. If your lights are regular FL then diatom will definite infest the tank. Your tank can never be forever in the dark, either you brave the diatom now without fish or it will still bug you later. calcium or kalkwassar? you only have LR/sand rite? Dun think you need it now. I will definite go without those for now.
  14. Good to hear that. Sun coral is a beauty, bring out their glory...
  15. I dun like them or hate them. I just use them and stick to closely to maintenance. It is not the best option but one of the cheaper in running compare to expensive skimmer. My worst experience with them is that I stupidly added fresh tape water (chlorine) to soak/clean them and return them to the main filtration. The chlorine kills denitrifying bacteria and whatever there, and hell broke lose.... The fishes was choke to death with 2 hours.... After that bad experience, I no longer do such stupid stuff... Moral of the story is that no equipment is fool proof, only human are fools themselve.
  16. You on your light as per how you wanted the lights to on with fishes/reef. It is not necessary to add any stuff in the tank during cycle. But if you add also no harm.
  17. I always wonder if one uses a skimmer, will it not removes the additive that we industriously add.
  18. Please read abt sun coral. They dun need direct lights. Also need localise feeding. If remain closed too long will never open anymore...
  19. Feather duster are worms really and the "crown" are really replaceable even it drop off or attacked. It is danger if something attack the tube itself. The feather duster I would believe is safe.
  20. Errr, those are Pro Series SeaPlankton (Coral food) for my mushies...
  21. It is a good thing you ask before you start. I started with a 1 ft tank some 5 years back. Okay, no coral if you use the 15W. At best you can keep simple mushroom, but you will want more sooner or later. I myself have never used a proper expensive skimmer, only a 8 SGD one but deem it as not worth the time. I dun know how a jewel filter looks like but I always used a canister filter and it is fine for me. All depends on how you decide on the filtration media and maintenance. Good luck.
  22. It is true but never seen my clown doing it though. Normally the silly clown will dash for the food, and then dash back to the anemone and eat the feed there. I would presume that some food with be left for the anemone....
  23. Sparks means it will soon be out of service. Change it to be saFe loh. Yes it will trip the breaker of ur whole house.
  24. Errrr; If you use chemical warfare in your main tank, chances is that it will kill a little of your reef/fishes. The best part is that ich does not seems to dissappear. Chemical weakens LS/reef alike, even they say is reef safe. Seems like you have a bit of work to do. The last time I use chemical warfare, half of my fishes die. Super sad, I tried hypo then it works, now happy like fishes.
  25. Oh mind, just a little set back and you want to give up. If you think fresh water is easy, you may be in for surprises. It is just that fresh water fishes, we are more familiar with. With the correct knowledge, reef fishes I felt is easier to keep. It is always we reefers that is complacent that causes the fishes/reef to perish...
