Minimal equipment for a reef tank
nakazoru replied to cyberpig's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Welcome; Firstly, being knowledgable is going to save you money. With the knowledge, you plan and it is going to save you even more money. Most reefers has a different idea on different equipment. It is the knowledge that keeps the LS alive not equipment. Equipment lightens your husbandry not eliminates. I personally have used canister for all the marine, I only maintain once a month, the canister. Everything is fine. So the LFS may not be wrong. On tank maker, you can check with bro fins, he just bought a very good price tank with sump. Get one that does the cabinet too. One more point, if you can get hold of used sand, LR from fellow reefer, it will effectively reduce the cycling to about 1 week, of course that is with NSW. And you may keep corals. Good luck. -
The 36W I see in LFS seems quite long from what I want. I was actually looking at abt less than 22cm tube. I have been sourcing for 1 mth but cannot find one of appropriate length. 13W, is the the the best i think so far for my dream pico. It is at best suitable for shrooms and zoo. Other coral then maybe not. I come across palm size T5 6W NO tube, so I thinking it must be a ultimate dream tube for pico if it comes in HO at the correct spectrum. Thus I start this thread. Sponsor will look at it if they find there is a demand for it. Consider the pico/nano tank are up and coming. I was hoping if there is high demand, then I voice out to them to see if it is possible. I wise to see the response before I make contacts.

You are right if it is FOWLR. If one wants so corals like zoo or shrooms. Then those may be insufficient. They comes in 2300K majority, PL, mostly. At best you can change bulk to 4500K...

I dun run chiller at the moment. But love to have one. My tank is running at constant 29C and everything is fine. Have not lost a single coral with this setup. Most important is suitable water parameters. Also coloration of coral, I only see one zoos colony color fade. So I cannot be conclusive if temp got something to do with it. The others either improve in colors or maintain...

Need advise on the Ca, KH and KW
nakazoru replied to clkong's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Ca - Calcium is source to maintain a proper reef. KH - (Carbonate Hardness) is alkalinity which is generally affected by dosing Ca. KW- Kalkwasser is chalk, i.e calcium carbonate. Reefer generally uses KW dosing calcium to the reef, as it is more cost effective. But you will need a dripper minimal, if without calium reactor. You do not add KW directly to Reef. KW reacts with reef water, to produce calcium. Calcium required 350 - 450 ppm, so you use either calcium by the bottle or KW to acheive that. Test Kit needed to measure that. Maintain at that level by KW other wise liquid calcium. Other stuff, I find essential is iodide. Magnesium is required if you want massive coraline algae. -
Information for bros; The super short tube is available in the market. I saw it numerous time. It is juz that they are for domestic use. They are NO. They spectrum is not greater than 4500K. We juz need the makers to make it HO and the right spectrum. i.e two major component: ballast and the tube.

Hi nano & pico guyz; I started this thread to see a raise of hands for our sponsor to take notice the needs for them to develop some decent light for nano & pico. Most of nano & pico need proper lights. That the reason that I hold off my pico project. Preferably 1 ft and 1/2 ft T5 HO??? Even in US has this needs... Good opportunities for them. Please join in the shouting...

Tips & Tricks to keep yuma in tip-top condition
nakazoru replied to angmoh's topic in Soft Coral Forum
Good; Another join the yuma craze... They are the hardest to keep among shrooms, or should I call them shroom at all? They are quite additive you know. Just one point to note, is that since they are quite costly, buy them slow, massive addition dun really do any good if any parameters swing. Especially most coral has their unique chemical discharge when added to a new environment. Good Luck. -
Suggest you QT it and make sure he eats. Then he should recover.

Bro, Funny, you have ur sunny out on the open. So what happens when photo period comes on??? But I really love this idea. But if got rock, then a bit difficult... If buy bottle with different shades, like sunny with sun glasses...

i need help! friend borrow money not repaying
nakazoru replied to shoelevy's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Hmmm.... I'm a big time lender of moneys. Lots of disapointment. Some even ruin friendship. Tell you some lousy example; 1. "A" borrow money for whatever reason not important. Which later I found out that he has a Fixed Deposit which he does not wants to touch, thus he borrows from me. Piss off. Loan still pending... 2. "B" borrow money so that he repay another loan that he owns. Loan still pending... 3. "C" borrows money for someone else who needs for cash flow reason. Paid. 4. "D" borrows bcos Ah LONG knock on door. Bad debt. Fellow goes to jail. The best part is that most borrower will in times go tour, buy present, owns car, drinks.... I have seen it all. The worst is to borrow to pay another loan. If one cannot pay the previous loan, one will not be able to pay me. Today, I believe that any money lent, will not return to my pocket. It is charity for the lesser fortunate.... Except for one, I believe is just way too spoit for hardwork. -
Ty guyz; Thread closed. Got it now.

Ha??? Is that a yuma that you frag? Hope it works, still contemplating if I should frag my orange yuma. No worries abt the clam. It is the skinny one that I have, so make it fat and the color will come back. If that yuma frag works then I take it loh. Haha..

Thank bro; But looking a wood. Iron, will rust... Thanks anyway.

water with a lot of suspense...
nakazoru replied to colinsoon's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
It is okay is it is a new tank. LR has more organism than we all know. It is like a planet on its own rights. New tank tends to have lousy water parameters, so these orgamism dies in the process. Thus you get cloud, one week or two for they to adjust or for your water to adjust. -
Please help ID. Look like forgspan, with luminous green at the base of the polyps... Pix taken under blue.

Yes it is a lobo, and also brain. Its a photo guy and suppliment wth phyto will do. They are hardy to keep.
