8 hrs too long? Our sun runs at 12hrs shift, with sunrise and sunset simulated by the actinic in our tank. I on my T5 for 10 hrs. The thing is MH is stronger in intensity but I dun see corals in your tank that needs strong intensity. Duration is a guideline to simulates the natural sun cycle. I dun think you can reduce it further than 8 hrs. Do bear in mind that earth has raining days and cloud to block the sun so 8 hrs is the minimum I guess.

Bro jervismun; The iceprobe uses 50W thus both will be 100W running at full capacity, lower than most refridgrant based chiller. Bro Tanga; The iceprobe I bought it cheap bcos it came without a power supply and controller. I paid less than S$200 for both plus shipping. I think I will have to delay fixing it up, as I goes Indonesia next monday.

For Kalkwasser, you can only dose one of them. But although not the same, I believe the will retart the diatom both ways. No Rowaphos will not conflict with the sponge. Water purifier most uses DI, some comes with RO. So has it different functions. OSIM I dun know.

Lucky boy you to get free stuff from LFS. The zoo will spread, that I know. The frogspawn looks good from what I can see, but part of the polpys do melt for no reason at all. You Diatom problem will not go away so easily for new tank. My suggestion: 1. Get a algae blennie, observe from LFS for the one that is always cleaning. There are more lazy blennie than hardworking ones. Good for LR. 2. Are you dosing Kalkwasser already? It slow diatom growth not stop. 3. RowaPhos sponge is not as effective as Rowaphos itself. 4. If you dun have RO/DI, then use distill water from NTUC 65cents/1.5l for top up. helps over time. That what I do now, since you also have a nano. As for the turtleweed/maiden hair, dun waste your money, it goes botak very fast. Do look out for lettuce slug as they always comes with it.

Haizzzz; Whole world moving to China, if you haven't notice. Nike is there, Wilson is there, VW is there, Madza is there. Only those struggling MNC still operates in europe, USA.. Just to name a few. Even the iceprobe I bought said it is made in China. Damn... But main co in USA.

I also dunno which one, but these I dose: 1. Kalkwasser Drip 2. Magnesium 3. Iodine 4. Strongium 5. Part A & B

Haha Bro; The algae of yours, I also have which is the much small and curly version of the that big piece one. Go my tank thread you will see. That is nice, I know. This one is a very large sheet of red algae, flat.

Yo Bro; I tot u sell insurance???? Haha, must be moonliting during studies. Consultant? What consultancy? Beauty Consultant or Slimming Consultant? Tell us your speciality okay. Anyway, consultancy is an overstatement now-a-days. You can be call consultant so long you charge by the hours, like KFC waiter...

Ha ha; Going to Indonesia next week again. But this time I call up AVA and confirmed these: 1. Giant Clam needs CITES permit from both countries, so I were in fact violating the laws the last time. So even if it is a 2" clam, it is also considered a GIANT clam. 2. Soft Coral is okay but only 5 pieces. To bros that I promise that if I go, I'll will buy a clam for you since I run out the last time. Sorry no clam, illegal w/o papers.

Trust me, when I say it is ulgy, it is. It is also blocking the lights of the zoo so it is going to be prune.

I think a webcam will do the job quite nicely and it is 24/7.
-
okay, when u want it, I dun have tang now. I stay toa payoh.
-
Goniopora and sponge is one hardest to keep, wrong choice i think. The rest of the coral are okay. Sponge cannot be exposed to air, I hope you know.
-
Nice Alveropora you have there. Good start as I can see, one of the more successful newbie tank. All the best. But do look out for surprises.
-
Bro; You need to source for a hardworking algae bleenie to clean the LR.
-
Will a blue tang do the trick?

Got this abnormal growth of this sheet of red algae. Dunno what good does it do? Any suggestion what I should do to it or juz cut it away.

I dun intent to use a controller as it is quite useless as these iceprobe does not have the ability to pull down the temperature very much. If you look at the specs of the iceprobe, the controller uses proportional control ranging from 0-12V, base on our weather, the controller will have alway be running at 12V, thus making the controller useless junk. Also the controller can only be use as 1 controller per iceprobe, due to the output power of this controller. Stupid I find it. What I intend to do, if the temperature pull down is too much, which I dun think so, is to either buy a Temperature controller or a themostat which will be less than the Iceprobe controller. By the way, my trade is Automation/Process Engineer so trust me, the controller is useless, dun waste money.

I just got 2 iceprobe for my 30G, even use to the electric only 100W so it should save electricity. I haven't set it up as I still need to fix a sump to accomodate it. These iceprobe is actually quite commonly used in Dielectric water cooler so if you can get a second hand dielectric cooler, they still can be used.

Bro Maxstar; Kinda look at it, it really looks like a handkerchief, but I think it is some kinda od "Zhi Chai" used in chinese dishes, it is suppose to be anti-cancerous. Any body wants? New toy- Macro AS150P from a bro here, need to buy a needlewheel pump tomorrow.

Look at this pix, the flat sheet of red algae. Dun know what good does it do? So ulgy in my tank. Any suggestion what should I do to it?
