Planted tank has been decom'ed and cleaned. Base rocks and dry sand also here... Looking forward to weekend to start a FOWLR.
-
Yeah, love those ADA tanks, especially the shallow version which was not very common in store. Anyway, I got N30 to custom made this tank. Always got inspiration from IAPLC, but mine still ended up crap lol
-
Thanks, stetan. It has been running for almost a year and lately neglected after I started my 1st marine tank. Anyway wanna try new stuff with this tank. Maybe next time I can come back to freshwater again. But for now, my interest has shifted to saltwater
-
I see..yeah indeed lots of things to learn haha.
-
I see. I have no experience with other brands as i'm still very new at saltwater. Oh, just take note with probiotic salt you will get bacteria bloom & your skimmer will go overdrive if your system is heavy in nutrient after overfeeding. But not an issue just keep the aeration strong and usually water will crystal clear after a few hours.
-
Haha. I'm probably not the right person to learn from as my method is not very scientific. I never test my water, i just based it on my corals condition. Anyway yes, from other's experience probiotics bacteria will reduce nutrients. You can start with Pro Bio S + NP Pro first if dont want to change salt. Since it will keep your nutrient low constantly, while the probiotic salt only work one time after water change. Although the salt has additional amino & vitamins. If use both probiotic salt & Pro Bio S, can achieve ULNS for SPS dominant system. Not really. I use fish V once every 3 days. While garlic oil only for frozen food.

Thanks for the feedback lcf425.

Was initially planning to decom my existing 3ft planted tank and upgrade the 2ft reef tank into 80-90gal reef tank next year. But looks like I can't hold it anymore. Will turn this 3ft shallow (custom ADA 90F) planted tank into a FOWLR soon. Then next year just upgrade the 2ft tank.

Yeah, I try to not spend too much since i just started into saltwater. So now try to get by with minimum stuff, haha. Maybe will kalk a try next time after i known my parameters Thanks for the tip, I did think of getting ATO with Kalk before, but still got chance of upsetting the tank due to PH swing in case of overdosing. At this point my bi-weekly water change is enough to sustain my nano mixed reef. Sure there will be swing due to evaporation in such a small tank, but I try not sweat about it too much since my corals are growing reasonably well for a few months now. Less things to worry about and more time to enjoy

All those AF products I use are simply vitamins, food & bacteria for reducing nutrients. Simply follow the recommended dosage. You might be confusing those with Ca, KH & Mg, which I don't dose at all, not even Kalk. These stuff will crash my tank if I dose without knowing the parameters.
-
Hi Sharon, apart from salinity, I have never tested my water parameters. I don't have any reef test kits.
-
Thanks Darren! Thanks..yeah, i their red color really brighten up the tank.

Thanks everyone for your kind feedback!

Simple no-frills sumpless tank. Taken with Note 5
-
That's up to u, depending on ur corals consumption. U can keep using ur Kalk as it is. The AF supplements are just to enhance. AF also has their own Ca, KH, Mg if u want to use everything from them. http://aquaforest.eu/en/product-category/chemia-wody/

Some shots using Note 5

Haha.. Hope it works great for u!

The basic things to start with are: Nutrient export => Pro Bio S + NP Pro or Pro Bio F Supplement for colors & health => Coral A, B, V, E Probiotic Reef Salt & the rest are optional. There are so many ways & products to achieve great tank. For me I choose Aquaforest from the get go coz - most Aquaforest tanks i've seen has vibrant colors & healthy SPS - very attractive packaging reminds me of cosmetics - complete range of reefing needs. Coral food, supplements, balling method, aquascaping. Etc. - not expensive, for my nano tank, the $15 (10ml) per bottle can last me almost a year. I'm not affiliated to Aquaforest nor do i profit from them. Simply a satisfied beginner. Whether the results is placebo or not i dont know. Just enjoy the it. lol. You can check out these more credible reviews by experienced reefers.

Thanks. Yeah, just tap water, no filtration at all. I do have algae & diatom, but my CUC are taking care of them. I use the combination below to further reduce the nutrient. Probiotic Reef Salt => bacteria will reduce NO3 & PO4 then pulled out by skimmer Pro Bio F => bacteria to consume NO3 & PO4 then become food for corals Phosphate Minus => GFO to remove PO4 & SiO4
-
I'm using Tunze 9001 skimmer. Thanks for the compliment, but I have never checked my NO3 & PO4 until now. At least not yet, planning to get the kits. Here are all the stuff I'm using. The Coral A, B, E, F, V, Kalium, Coral Food & Pro Bio F are dosed once every 3 days. 20% water change using tap water with Probiotic Salt weekly at SG 1.025. Phosphate Minus & Carbon in the canister filter.

Haha, ic ic Lol

I've only used Coral Pro Salt for 1 mth then switched to this Probiotic Salt. I also never check my parameters, so Im not sure I'm qualified to do any review, lol. But so far the colors are good & getting good PE on the acros. Thanks $andy Thanks SubzeroLT. Lol, the center is diamond 10, but the satellites are DX1-HCP
