Nooblenny Proper Reef Tank Equipments: Tank: Red Sea Reefer 250 Lighting: ATI Sunpower T5 + Euroquatics E5 LED Return Pump: Reef Octopus Varios 4 Skimmer: Reef Octopus Classic 152-S Reactor: Reef Octopus Bioreact-90 Wavemaker: 2x Coralbox QP-5 Doser: Jebao DP-4 Chiller: Hailea HS-28A System: Aquaforest Previously I experimented with temporary setups using my existing freshwater tank & canister filter. After a few months of learning, I’m now ready to start my first proper reef tank. Initially planned to have my tank custom-made by Aquarium Artist, but my inquiry was ignored, lol. So I picked up Red Sea Reefer instead, which turned out to be a fantastic & well-made tank.

Thanks everyone! This tank has crashed many months ago in March. I was away for 3 week (no one at home) and came back with a disaster, all SPS gone and all LPS also died afterwards. Everything you see in this tank...Gone! Since then I had decided to take a break for a while. Went hiatus from SRC. Trying to slow down and learn from my mistakes, although I still run another smaller tank with LPS which is doing quite well almost a year now. Down but not out...Planning another tank soon.

2 months old "Nooblenny Not So Noobie Tank" Tank = 3ft ADA 90F custom shallow tank Light = 3ft Sunpower ATI T5 (Front to back: Blue+, Purple+, Blue+, Coral+) Wavemaker = Jecod Crossflow CP-25 Protein Skimmer = Tunze 9001 Filtration = Eheim 2213 canister with AF Phosphate Minus & Carbon, MarinePure Sphere Chiller = Set at 26c Hello again fellow reefers! After hiatus for a few months due to busy schedule, I'm back again. Started my 1st ever saltwater hobby in July last year. After 4 months I was not satisfied with the tank layout, so decom the 1st reef tank "Nooblenny Noobie Reef" and moved some corals to an existing 3ft shallow tank. This time picked up a few new SPS colonies. No plan to build reef-specific tank & sump yet. Still using existing freshwater equipments.

Decided not to get anymore, going T5 instead. Thanks everyone who offered.

Po4 minus & carbon in individual bag each. Actually the salt mixes very fast. I usually use hand to stir for about 1 min in the bucket. Then wait a few minutes for water to clear & ready to use. If i'm not in a hurry, i will put a pump to aerate & mixes everything throughly for 1 hour. Yes, always use refractometer. Its very easy & accurate. After changing a few times you know how many cups to put in the bucket & get the desired salinity everytime.

I don't really check, normally just roughly to cover the diameter of my canister filter so the water will flow through all the media. Actually my SPS load still very low since those are still small frags, so I don't dose Mg, Cal etc. Just bi-weekly water change is enough for now.
-
Good to know you got the exchange! Maybe can get a good refractometer, more accurate & consistent in the long run

Really nice tank!

Hi Ashtrax, I usually change the carbon & phosphate minus in canister once every 2 mths. I think you can start with non-probiotic Reef Salt & dose Pro Bio S & NP Pro. The Probiotic Salt in my experience is most effective only after water change. So if you neglect your water change then the nutrient will slowly creep up. Dosing Pro Bio S & NP Pro can be more consistent in keeping your nutrient level low. I myself will be changing to AF Reef Salt after my probiotic salt is finished. As for Mag+, KH+ & CA+, yeah I do not think you need them yet, until you have a large population of SPS. Just frequent water change is good enough for now.
