  1. btw sun coral is NPS (non photosynthetic coral). you have to feed them, else they will die.
  2. sun coral in the wild usually only feed at night. they are not photosynthetic so do not need to open in the day. they open whenever there is food. if you want them to open when light is on, feed them when light is on. with some patience, they will adjust to the cycle of food and your feeding schedule.
  3. hi - i'm using varios 8 for about 2 months now (replaced my reef octopus water blaster) so far so good, super silent and sometimes i forgot it was even running. i'm running it at max power. i have another eheim pump next to it which i used for my reactors. the eheim pump makes more noise than the varios.
  4. my copperband is with me for about 9 months now. if they are new, it takes a while for them to settle down (a few days) before they will start trying to feed. go to ntuc, but clams (any clams should work - i got those they name Venus clam from the seafood section). remove one part of the shell, with the meat at the other part. put into the tank to feed. in the wild copper band feed by pecking and searching for food on the rocks. that is what their snout is for. it is unnatural for them to pick food from water column. if you are lucky they will start eating mysis from the water. good luck
  5. no issue in my tank. and after a while i didn't see it anymore - i guess it died. you can observe if the "string" irritate any coral nearby but it won't sting. it is just getting nutrient from the water.
  6. you can try hitchhiker guide - lion fish lair. or this article too. https://reefbuilders.com/2015/05/28/coeloplana-benthic-ctenophores-living-nose/

  11. hi - if you are looking to control nutrient (no3, po4), then start with a skimmer. you will need a very big refugium in order to be effective in nutrient control.
  12. hi - there is a reason why in general there is a compartment for return pump and another for skimmer. some reasons are: 1. skimmer is sensitive to water level and its best to place in a compartment where the water level is constant. 2. skimmer output could produce micro bubble and if you put it together with return pump you will end up with a lot of micro bubbles in your display tank. normally there is a bubble trap between return pump and skimmer. 3. you also need to have an ATO to keep the water level/overall level constant. if you do not have space for refugium, you can opt for ATS or chaeto reactor.
  13. for the water change - it is in a period of 6 weeks, not 6 days. in any case, as with all reefing method, stability and patience is key. if things become stable with Triton, you don't really need to change water. i haven't change water for past 15 months until recently whereby the ICP test came back with something rusting in tank (found a rusted screw in return pump). as for the sea cucumber, it is the best cuc i have ever gotten. although ugly.....
  14. for Triton - auto mixing/water change station is not necessary. however you need to be able to mix water when the needs arise. Example: if your icp test come back with metals and the recommendation is 6x15% water change. for sand - normal cleaning with siphoning will do like what you describe. i don't siphon my sand anymore after getting a sea cucumber. he keeps the sand sparkling clean
