  1. wow.. u got 7 tangs in there? going to add more? u really need a good skimmer. But as they mentioned, once one get ich.... I think it will be a lot of trouble.
  2. Yah of course it is possible not to change water. You will just be able to have simple FOWLR. Notice that tank doesn't even has coraline algae? Says something about that tank. I personally used to have a 4 gallon nano tank with no water change for 1 year as well. Using UGF. My clown and damsel 'surving' inside for a year with no water change at all. However, ever since I transfer them over to my 4ft which has a lot more equipments and water change, the colour of the fishes actually brightens up. As long as the system is able to convert the harmful NH4/NO2 to NO3, there's no need to change water. This is what that lecturer is doing. Using bio-balls to house lots of bacterias for this sole purpose. Simple concept which has been known to hobbyist for many years. Really wonder about the credibilty of the lecturer. These bioballs stuff has been around for so many years. I'm is this hobby for slightly more than a year only. Those lao jiaos care to share how long have the bioballs 'technology' been around? Seems like this lecturer is just interested to just make a quick buck.
  3. Hammers and bubbles don't feed on phyto....
  4. Don't bother buying iodine/iodide testkits... you can't measure iodine/iodide accurately
  5. wrong because bubble coral is lps and not soft corals
  6. epsom salt is ok. been using it for a couple of times. Cheap way to raise Mg espcially if u have a huge tank. You will go broke using those aquarium addictives to raise Mg. Some of the guys here had experienced it
  7. lizard44: the baking soda u dosed is sodium bi-carbonate? It's meant more to increase the alkalinity of your system rather than to increase/decrease pH. Check your kH if u have been dosing too much..
  8. Sudden increased in bacterias..better check your oxygen level
  9. Thanks Bandit. Its a good link.
  10. If i'm not wrong, the effluent's pH is very imortant right?
  11. LoL.... wonderful method. But it only works for that night.
  12. Oh I see. Thanks for the feedback. I kind of suspect its due to the pH as well. I guess the most important aspect is the pH. Maybe I shall dose some kalkwasser occasionally to help bring up the pH a bit.
  13. Just tested my effluent. pH - 6.4 Ca- 580ppm kH- 30 Does that sound alright? weileong: you are using rowalith too? Can share your observations?
  14. wow! very nice tank. And you sure got lots of equipments! May I ask the reason for having both the kalk reactor and the calcium reactor? The calcium reactor is not enough? Just wondering....
  15. Seriously, it depends on your source. Different LFS have their own sources. Some might have zero NO3/PO4, some may container higher values of PO4/NO3.
  16. wow.. still nobody grab ah... certainly a good buy.
  17. Thanks Lightningstrike. Read on most articles and they recommend 6.5-6.7. They didn't state what kind of media though. Thanks Weileong too. I have achieved 6.4 after increasing the effluent flowrate. Where did you find the recommended effluent ph of 6.2-6.4? I can't seem to find it on the net. Most of the info that I find tells me to set dkh 30-40 rather than the pH.
  18. Oh forgot to mention... RM CR.. single chamber type and Rowalit
  19. Yup, some Tangs are choosy and don't take seaweed. My Salfin and Atlantic Blue love the seaweed but my kole never touch the seaweed. In fact, it never take pellets too. Even my anthias are taking pellets. My kole really ATTP. He's just happy with the green hair algae in my tank and the mysis i feed daily.
  20. What is supposed to be the calcium/alkalinity of the effluent? I was told that it should have a Ca of 600ppm and kH of 50. Just measured my effluent and it says Ca 580ppm, kh 25. Will it cause my tank to be imbalance? Any tips on how to tune the reactor? Trying to follow the instructions from Reefkeeping.com Is it the right and good way to tune the reactor? Just tested the pH of my effluent. It shows 6.3. The bubble count is 1 bubble per 4-5 secs. Effluent flowrate is 1 drop per sec. Am I right to increase the effluent's flowrate to increase the pH to 6.5-6.7? Anyway, I increased the effluent flowrate to about 3 drop per 2 sec. Seems that the bubble count drop to about 1 bubble per 7-8 sec. Is that normal? Thanks in advance. Cheers.
