Click through to see the images. Acropora prolifera is a neat Acropora in and of itself. Genetic analysis shows us that itis a hybrid between the only other two Acroporids in the Atlantic, A.cervicornis (Staghorn Acropora) and A.palmata (Elkhorn Acropora). Sure enough, it exhibits physical features of both. It's an uncommon species, so scientists were surprised to discover a high-density stand of A.prolifera at the Bay of Grand Cul-de-Sac (Lower Antilles, Caribbean). What's more surprising is that no A.prolifera were observed at this same reef site in a previous 2011 survey. Genetic microsatellite analyses suggests that the entire new reef is a clone of a single specimen. In a little over two years, a single Acropora colony proliferated like wildfire, thus earning its name Acropora prolifera. There have been some positive signs for Caribbean reefs. The late 1990s and early 2000s were harsh for Atlantic coral reefs due to several causes, some of which were anthropogenic (man-caused). For example, researchers discovered the cause of White Pox disease - a disease that wiped out 88% of Elkhorn Coral, Acropora palmata - was a bacteria found in human sewage. After modernizing waste management and water treatment facilities around affected areas, Elkhorn Coral began to rebound. The discovery of this Acropora prolifera reef is another cause for optimism. Bought it from ebay, unfortunately no one is selling here . Yes, you are right it is very useful especially when you are traveling, you can even check the status of the tank any time by sending a SMS command to the device and it will reply you with the update of your battery , temp of the tank ect.. However the only downside i feel of this equipment is that the temperature probe doesnt last long. -

Sharing a little tips which i learn from one of the master in this forum. In order to cut down on the algae growth on the glass which hopefully also lead to lesser maintenance needed to clean the acrylic glass, the position of the lighting rail in the main tank is not "centered" but rather focus on the position of the lighting angle where most of the coral will be . With lesser light shinning on the panel , it also mean lesser algae grow on the wall. Can really see the different between this and my frag tank where the glass is fill with some algae growth every week . -

Since it operate on SMS, i find it more reliable than the email notification that apex offer. In the event of a power failure or temperature getting out of the setting, the battery will trigger the sms send to you . Screen shoot of the notification sms. -
Look for twisted UV or the Aqua UV for greater contact time and effectiveness.

Click through to see the images. From Giesemann: The GIESEMANN POWERCHROME series has long been regarded as one of the highest quality yet affordable T5 lamps available to hobbyist and professional, and has been at the forefront of T5 lamp technology since their introduction in 2002. Denoted by their new distinctive black packaging, for 2014 we have revised and improved all versions within the range to continue this tradition of excellence. With the new POWERCHROME T-5 series we offer the very latest HO (high output) fluorescent technology, using new advances in Tri and Penta-phosphor blending to Giesemann’s own specifications. These new technologies are characterized by exceptionally high output performance, longer life span, better coloration and greater spectral stability over time and have been specifically developed for use with all dimmable units. The POWERCHROME range is available in 7 stunning colors, including a select series for Reef Aquariums, providing much higher PAR than previous versions to enhance the color and growth of corals whilst producing an excellent light rendition for optimum aesthetics, Whilst the two special blends for tropical aquariums are particularly suitable for the illumination of fresh-water planted aquariums to achieve lush, vibrant and healthy plant growth. We also recommend the new POWERCHROME T5-tubes for those aquariums that have a greater water depth, or those requiring supplemental fill-in lighting in situations where more focused main light sources can result in shading. Optimum results are achieved within reef aquariums whilst using the POWERCHROME T5-tubes in combination with MEGACHROME metal halide bulbs. These latest generation T-5 lamps are available in all 4 common sizes from 24, to 39, 54 and 80 watts. GIESEMANN POWERCHROME T-5 lamps are manufactured and packaged exclusively in Germany for Giesemann Aquaristik. View the full article

Click through to see the images. The Aqua Illumination Hydra TwentySix is roughly half the size of the Hydra FiftyTwo and features half as many LEDs. Interestingly, the power consumption of the TwentySix does not scale linearly with the FiftyTwo; Despite having only half as many LEDs (using the same LED puck), the TwentySix consumes 90 watts at max output versus the FiftyTwo's 135 watts. This would suggest the TwentySix's LEDs are driven more aggressively than its bigger brother and will yield higher light output per LED. We could also conclude that the new AI LED pucks can output more light, but the single cooling fan on the FiftyTwo is the limiting design factor. Nano reefkeepers should be particularly excited. The TwentySix is a bit larger than AI's discontinued Nano model, but it packs almost three times as much light output. The TwentySix will share all the features of the FiftyTwo, including seven channels of built-in wireless control and EXT rail mounting system. The TwentySix is available in black and white finish. Meet the New AI Family Lauching May 29, 2014, the new AI Hydra TwentySix will round out Aqua Illumination's core product line. All three Hydra products (the original Hydra, Hydra FiftyTwo, and Hydra TwentySix) will work together using AI's Director or new Controller. AI will cease manufacturing of the Vega and Sol but will continue supporting these products (except the first generation two-fan Sol).
