Came across this new products during last shopping trip in one of the LFS and feel that this would be an idea products for those keeping nano tank which do not have the luxury space of running a FR to reduce p04 or N03 ect.. Since this products claim to remove these and reducing the frequency of water changes. wondering if anyone try this on their marine tank yet ?? products detail can be found here ; http://www.tetra-fish.com/sites/tetrafish/...1276&cid=74

Live rock's coraline algae turning white
Harlequinmania replied to Eniram's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
it maybe due to the low KH,mg and ca level in your water.. You can rise these up after you have finish cycling your tank by dosing. Coraline algae will start to grow back once your water stabilize with these level and lighting. -

INCREASE in ELECTRIC BILL by alot..
Harlequinmania replied to legendz1987's topic in General Reefkeeping_
IMO chiller and lighting is the two main cause for high electrical consumption.. Switching to lower Wattage lighting which does not generate too much heat, and switching to a higher effective chiller like a direct titanium chiller with correct horse power will also help chill the water faster... The faster the chiller chills the water, and the faster it cut off, the lesser the energy drawn as well. Titanium chiller have their probe direct contact with the water it chill comparing to other conventional chiller thus it will helps chilled the water much faster. -

Maybe the thread below should help you to calculate the monthly electrical consumption ; http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=80504 -
Formula to calculate your Monthly electrical bill ?
Harlequinmania replied to Harlequinmania's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Yes.. that's right, looking into the power consumption of the equipment is the key factor when i look for equipment especially in a Hot topical country like in Singapore. It is better to do some study before setting up, if not you will find yourself facing a high monthly electrical bills which may cause you to give up the hobby especially when electrical fees started to go way high ! Having a good ,reputable and energy effective equipment is thus very important. As always, Cheap is not always Good, and Good is not alays Cheap especially in having a energy effective equipment.. -
Wondering how much energy your aquarium is consuming each month ? This is the Fomula to calculate ; For eg. Product A has Power Consumption of 10 Watts Product A Power Consumption : 10 Watts/1000 = 0.01kWh 0.01kWh X No. of hours used per day X No. of days used in a month = (Value)kWh Amount to be paid per month = (Value)kWh X Tariff rate Current New tariff rate from SP Services with effective from 01st July is 19.28 cents/KWh

Need help for cycling new tank
Harlequinmania replied to comycus's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I think you are on the right track, Patient is the key to success in marine setup.. You can use oyster shell , puka shell or even coral chip to stabilize the PH .. Happy Reefing ! -
Need help for cycling new tank
Harlequinmania replied to comycus's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
We should always remember that keeping a marine aquarium is not the same as keeping a freshwater tank, where we just pour in some tape water let it run for a hour or two with air pump and happily put in the fish we bought from the shop. You should try to change 10% - 20% of the water as often as you can if you are not runing on skimmer on your small tank , and if it is such a small tank keep the tank with as little Bio-load as possible. The 3ft tank with cabinet and sump should be the way to go for your long term headace free fish keeping.. -

Water change... NSW or salt mix?
Harlequinmania replied to raydiative's topic in General Reefkeeping_
another good alternative will be ordering those big bottle of distill mineral water from those water company like ocean ect.. they will loan you the drinking machine for free if you order a few bottle each time, and delivered to your doorstep. No need to carry the water back..so shack -

I help you move to the correct section. You should use Grade 0 or Grade 1 sand for your DSB.. You need not buy Live sand unless your pocket is deep enough , since your sand will become "live" after having it in your tank for a few month. Of course, if you want to speed up the process, you can get sand from fellow reefer whom is giving away.
