Click through to see the images. Whale watcher Barbara Roettger had her camera rolling last week and caught some amazing footage near Santa Cruz, California. Two kayakers and a surfer were in the area when suddenly two humpback whales emerged out of nowhere lunge feeding on anchovies. They were all very lucky that they weren't capsized during the incident! (via BoingBoing) View the full article

Good news for Nano reefer , the wait is finally over for nano reefer to take part in the Nano cube tank competition held in Aquarama 2013. MARINE NANO CUBE COMPETITION TO BE LAUNCHED AT AQUARAMA2013 Without doubt, the Freshwater Nano Tank Competitionlaunched at Aquarama 2011 was an outstanding success, attracting a steady flowof trade and public admirers throughout the four-day event. These pint-sized,predominantly cube-shaped, set-ups have become extremely popular in recentyears, and all the signs are that the trend will continue well into the future. For our part, we will be helping this popularity along by staging what we hopewill be an even better Freshwater Nano Tank Competition at Aquarama 2013. On the marine side, the ‘Nano Revolution’ has taken aslightly different, but totally logical, direction. For a start, the tanks arelarger, owing, primarily, to the more stringent needs of marine organisms whencompared to freshwater ones. Secondly, marine nanos are not usually referred toas nano tanks, but as nano cubes – a self-descriptive label. The main characteristics of these aquaria are a cubicshape, frequently with a bowed front, and a hood with in-built lighting, plusfiltration/aeration equipment incorporated into the overall design – thoughthere are exceptions to this general format. Visitors to this year’sAquarama will have seen numerous spectacular examples of these nanos, somebow-fronted, others with flat front panes, some with in-built lighting units, other with independent ones. Every indication points in the direction of a furthersurge in the popularity of these set-ups which, properly maintained, open upexciting new possibilities for the keen marine aquarist. Ever-conscious of modern trends and the desirability ofincorporating these into Aquarama in order to stimulate both consumer and tradeinterest, UBM is delighted to announce that the 2013 edition will include thelaunch of a Marine Nano Cube Competition to run alongside the already wellestablished and hugely popular Marine Tank Competition. Planning is already under way for this brand-newcompetition and the relevant entry requirements and judging criteria are beingdrawn up in collaboration with our colleagues at Singapore’s Marine Aquarium Association. Please refer to Aquarama’s website, www.aquarama.com.sgfor further news and updates!

A US Coast Guard C-130 Hercules and four Australian Navy vessels conducted grid searches over the weekend into today. This afternoon, the seven men were spotted by the US Coast Guard plane; The men were waving palm fronds on an atoll. Their vessel's engine had died, leaving them stranded on the remote atoll for four days. The US Coast Guard says the men are undergoing a survivor debriefing but appear in good health. Help needed in setting up tank from zero
Harlequinmania replied to Kakani's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
If you intent to go for long term use, go for quality return pump since that is the heart of your whole aquarium system. if you main return pump fail, without proper water circulation , your live stock's health maybe affected, other good brand include Aqua medic and the new DD pump. For the sizing of the skimmer, you should first determine the total volume of your tank ( http://www.sgreefclub.com/srcconverter.htm ) and then check the suitable skimmer model suitable for your water volume . Most of the time the information can be found on their website http://www.aquamarin.com.sg/aproducts.asp?bcID=291&catname=Protein%20Skimmers Hope the above helps. -
Opps.. i though it's today LOL..

Hi, Welcome to the forum, and i am glad that you are checking these out before setting up your tank in impulse . You should be able to find alot of your answer by doing a search in the forum or from our sponsors in the forum . A few good place to shop for dry goods equipment would be reef depot, madpetz , aquamarine ect.. For live stocks, you would not want to miss out LFS like irwanna, Golden octopus, marine life and even online purchase from M3morph to save you the trouble of traveling.. To speed up your tank cycling, you may use sea water instead of salt mix and dose bacteria or using rocks / filter media from established tank but water testing is still a must. The dream of setting up a successful ocean world at home is not longer impossible with all the high tech equipment we have now , but this hobby require more research and understanding of the water parameter and filtration system which also make this hobby more fun . There are alot of possible combination of corals / fish or species tank that you can keep but last but not least patient is the key to the success in this hobby. -
oh no.. i just miss it..

Click through to see the images. The Red-Faced Sunburst Skunk Clownfish are wild caught, although their collection location is currently a company secret (trust us ... we tried to find out). These new skunks are excellent candidates for broodstock, much like iBluewater's Rose-Magenta Skunk Clownfish we shared with you last month. With professional aquaculture's and hobbyist's success breeding clownfish and the amazing variants being discovered for numerous Amphiprion species, aquarists should have an increasing selection of exotic captive-bred "designer" clownfish in the coming years. Invasive species have hitchhiked to the United States on cargo ships for centuries, but the method US regulators most rely on to keep them out is not equally effective across coasts. Ecologists have found that ports on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico are significantly less protected than ports on the West Coast. View the full article
