Did a little rescape with the Caribsea Shapes rocks recently. Very satisfied with the current scape now, hope to fill it with predominantly SPS, and a little LPS.

That’s great to hear! But if anyone has a bad Dino infestation, they have a more potent product called Dino x that works better. -

I didn’t have any macro algae in my tank. But based on the manual of the product, it doesn’t state anything about macro algae. -
Battling Cyanobacteria with Fauna Marine Red X
josephwzr replied to josephwzr's topic in Product Reviews
Could tell that the product was working after day 1. On day 14-15 there was little to no green cyano left. -
Hi everyone, I’ve had a problem with green cyano for 3-4 months. Exhausted many different ways to battle them, some of which are doing weekly waterchange, siphoning them out, getting a new UV Steriliser and also reducing my nutrients through various means(reactors and bacteria dosing). None of these worked, so I decided it’s time to add some chemicals in my tank. I was conflicted between two products. Chemiclean and FM Red X. Ultimately I chose FM Red X based on two factors. 1) I’ve always been a fan of Fauna Marine, and use many of their products. Their product also claim to remove Cyanobacteria and many other types of algae organically and biologically. 2) There were little to no online reviews regarding this particular product. Thus, I thought I’d be a good opportunity to share my experience with fellow reefers. Perhaps help them to make an informed decision in the future if they were to face the same issue. A few things to take note. Turn of all UV/Ozone/Reactors. The dosage is 10ml per 100litre, for 5days. Followed by 6 days of patience and letting the product work in your aquarium. This was my situation on the first day before dosing. Make sure to turn of your UV, Ozone or any reactors. Just leave your skimmer on will do. After about 3 days, the difference was significant. The layer of cyano starting to thin out. Day 11 of treatment, majority of green cyano has disappeared. Skimming performance has increased as well. Day 15 of treatment 95% of the cyano is gone. As suggested by Fauna Marine, I have also dosed Rebiotic, which is a product that repairs and restore bacterial stability in the aquarium. I must say, I am very happy with the results of the FM Red X, and would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has issues with cyano. If anyone is interested to find out more on this product, I’ve attached a link below. https://reefmarketsg.com.sg/product/fauna-marin-red-x-250ml/

Previously I mentioned that I’m battling against green cyano, and now I’m proud to say that I’ve won 90% of the battle with the help of Fauna Marine’s Red X. I will be making a short review of the product separately on a new thread, as I will keep this one short. Before After 14days Now that the Red X treatment is over, I’ve also dosed FM rebiotic as recommended, which is meant to repair and restore bacterial stability in the tank. Mixing the rebiotic into 1litre of water.

Managed to get it for a good deal from a fellow Reefer.[emoji38]

Recently bought an Apex Dos, but have yet to set it up as I’m not sure what I will use it for[emoji23]

In terms of water clarity, yes there is. Previously my tank water would only be clear in the morning to early afternoon(not sure why), but with the UV, clarity is there throughout the day. But for diatoms and green cyano, not much improvement yet.

Done! Looking forward to more tank threads and DIY ideas. -
And lastly.... my FTS. Once the battle of Cyanobacteria and diatoms are over, I will start stocking up some corals. Looking forward to that day.

Moving on from the technical stuff, I’ve recently added some new fishes to the tank. I’ve been very fond of leopard wrasses since the start of the hobby, and always wanted to keep multiples of them together. To start off, I now have a beautiful Vivienne wrasse, slightly skinny but it’s eating all sorts of food well. Next up, a jewel wrasse. My all time favourite, the splendid leopard wrasse. You may notice that the colouration seems abit weird. I suspect it’s undergoing the process of sequential hermaphroditism, where it turns from a female to male(protogynous). A more commonly known hermaphroditism occurs in clownfishes, where all are born male, and at some point in their life cycle they may turn into females(protandrous). If anyone wonder why I have 3 leopard wrasses co-exhibiting, is because I added all 3 roughly at the same time. Otherwise, they are most likely to fight since they are pretty territorial fishes of the same genus. However, I do hope to add a chaoti wrasse in the future.

Been 1.5years since I updated my thread. Many things have changed, from equipments to livestocks, and many new problems along the way. To start off, I swapped out my gyres for 2 mp40s. It was too much of a hassle to maintain the gyre, as cleaning it would mean I have to redo my wiring each time. With the MP40, it’s so much more convenient to just remove the wet side and clean it. A problem that I’ve been facing for the past 2months is green cyano. I can’t seem to get rid of it, despite having relatively low nutrients. NO3 10-25, Po4 0.025. At this point, I’m still trying to fight it without having to dose any chemicals. After much consideration, I decided to purchase an Aqua Ultraviolet 25w, in hopes of battling this nuisance algae. I’ve also been doing 10% wc weekly, so I hope to see good results soon. Patience is key!

Looking for the above. Need two sets. Pm me if you have to let go, thanks!

Definitely give your barrels and containers a good wash wish soap. But make sure to rinse it off properly as well, make sure no soap residue If thorough cleaning still doesn’t work, perhaps the barrel/container is leaching out something and you should consider changing them. Also, are your barrels and containers closed with a lid?

Hi bro, I thought ur pictures looked good... until I noticed that the pic of the sunflower zoas you’re using was taken by me. Perhaps you can give a heads up to the potential buyers that these photos are taken off the internet? I’m fine if you’re going to use my photo, but please give credit where it is due. And others may feel cheated if they were to get something that is different from the photos. Good luck in ur sales, cheers
