C. binotatus, anyone having this tang?
Vili_Shark replied to strat's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
That's a good bargain! Nice fish. -
True But they dont have such Croceas that often. And they pay more for both. Much more.
-
You see Anthias, There are good clams in S'pore that are NOT croceas.
-
Anthias I'll PM ya when I'm in S'pore, I think you're the right guy to go Clam hunting with
-
"just" Black? Other parts of the world likes other kinds of Clams The real Black Max is a prized and not east to find clam. When I say the real I mean deep black (not purple-black or deep brown or deep blue etc.), with white lines. I dont know the policy of this forum regarding typing the names of vendors in the post....how're the rules? Anyways, those Max were excellent, I'd take a couple with me if I could, but didnt fly directly back home so I had to leave them behind.

When I was in S'pore last time, I saw at least 5 pcs of ultra cool Black Max!!!

Has anyone keep a Powder Brown successfully
Vili_Shark replied to weileong's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
I'd advise not buying small size PB's. It's better to buy specimens around 10 to 14cm. They have better chances at this size. -
800 bucks for a crocea? You should ask the dude who sells it to you where's da diamond. About the Blue Squamie. If ya see any of those Clams, pls let me know. Tks.

Vili_Shark replied to weileong's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Powder Browns, need a large tank with agressive skimming and very strong currents in the tank. They need the swimming space, than the agressive skimming and strong currents with make the water high in dissolved oxygen which mimmics the reef edge (before the drop off)where these fish are coming from. It's useless to keep them without the above. You also should look for a specimen from Phillipines that I think are better than the Indo specimens. -
It is really one of the most beautiful fish out there. But the survival rate is kinda slim. Weileong, yur last Evansi, is he eating? I dont think it'll stand a chance on his own, they like being together.

Anthias, I feel the prices of the Phonpei are going down cause of the bad reputation they received. In the last couple of years there were reports of some fouled Phonpei shipments. Many people now are afraid to put these clams in their tanks. For the Blue Suq,ie in the pic. It will most probably color up. Can you get those in S'pore????????? If so, let me know when and where...I'm there dude!

In US, most of the Tear Drops are from Vitenam. I visited one of LAX biggest importer and saw hundreds of Tear Drops, very few had color, all were from Vitenam. For the Croceas, we both agree S'pore had them. For the Singaporeans, I've been to Singapore more than 30 times, so I know it better than the average tourist. The phonpei clams are really nice, but if you look at US wen sites you'll see they dont have very high demand due to bad rep, so their prices are going down. If I were you, I'd use SRC to gather phone number and contacts of people who wants Max clams and go to the 2-3 more serious importers and ask them to import. If the demand is there, believe me they will import it. Dont forget that Singapore is the base of some of the largest Marine wholesellers in the world! You should'nt under estimate S'pore.

I personally feel that unless you're going for the expensive fish it will not be worth bringin home all these fish (money wise). Might be that you'll get a better selection of fish like you mentioned. The airline might kill ya with an overweight, that's why I adviced you to talk with them in advance a couple of days before the flight, when you'll have the approximate details about the size and weight of your fish box and your baggage weight. If ya need an exporter send me a PM, I can reccomend ya a good guy who handled the export for me and did it perfectly. He also got a good selection of fish and corals.

Most croceas are coming from Vietnam, even though many importers like to say otherwise cause it was not long ago that many Vietnam clams shipments had very high mortality rates due to wrong collecting methods. I think that last year or more they improved drastically. They do ship also Squamies and Max, many Tear drop max are from there and also the Green and Blue TD. Last time I've been to S'pore was November and I got 2 really nice Croceas, in a grade that can face any of Solomon Islands croceas. Europeans, let's say Germans, are paying 3 times up to 10 times more for their Clams, they might get some nice ones, but I dont think that there are not nice Clams in S'pore (unless situation's changed since last time I was there). If you look at Electric croceas, S'pore has it. If you look at special croceas look at Roidan's, I never seen croceas like he got. If you look at Max, so I admit, I didnt see to many in S'pore, but I'm only a tourist, you guys can find more. If ya look at the Heavy weights, like Blue Squamies and Color TD....I heard they're taking the first class seats to Japan

Hi I forgot to add that it depends how long time is the flight, this is for knowing size of packing. So let's say 15 fish size of a pygmi angel, for 24hrs packing. You'll need two box. A box weight is around 10 to 12Kg. To be safe at Changi, I'd advise to get a Health certificate, like this you're out smoothly, now you'll face problems only with the airlines to do with over weight. You can talk with the arlines in advance and let them know about that you are THINKING of carrying kive fish back with you, and what will they charge for it. By then you should know what will be your baggage approx weight and add the fish weight to this and see, it might be worth paying abit of over weight and that's it. Otherwise, you might wanna get in touch with an exporter who will do all this for you. He will pack, get the Health cert, get the best rates with the airlines and ship the fish for ya. You should ask yourself if the fish you are about to buy are worth all the hassle, or maybe you can buy'em where u live at abit more money, but no hassle.

Anthias, I saw some of the Clams you guys posted and they're awsome. Roidan got some excellent Croceas, also other members have really nice Clams. The thing is that for example, most of the Croceas are coming from Vietnam, freight from Vietnam to S'pore is way cheaper than freight from Vietnam to USA or Europe. Freight rate is THE key factor in the price of the Clam (or fish/corals). For the Blue Squamies, they have much higher pricing than S$100.00. I wonder if any of those Blue Squamies arrived to Singapore, as S'pore is so close to most of the clam collecting origins.

Hi I took fish from S'pore and from other places. You have to consider the following: 1.What is the qtty of fish+how many boxes and approximate weight. 2.What are the rules in the posrt of destination.(health cert?import license?any other paper work you should obtain?) Let me know these and I'll give you some good advise. Cheers.
-
Hi, 100 sin dollar is not much for the real nice Clams. In S'pore clams are much cheaper than most other places cause of the low freight charges. Did any of you saw a Blue Squamie in S'pore???
-
Hi Can u get a Blue Squamie is S'pore?
-
Very nice Clams I like the moron clown croceas, really nice.

Review on the different kinds of Marine Salts
Vili_Shark replied to hongqixian's topic in Product Reviews
Hi, I never understood why people rate a good salt, cause it mix easy. So what if it mix easy? Does it make it good? Salt should be good if it gives ya good trace elements, calcium levels, PH, and buffer, and be out of the bad "guys" phosphate , nitrates etc. I use Seachem reef salt, it gives 23.7 Kg to make 600 liters at 1.022 while most other brands gives ya only 20.00 Kg for the same. No need to think much, the Seachem will not dissolve as fast as most other brands. But for obvious reasons. For the Red Sea salt, I saw somebody posting earlier that it made only outta sea water. It is impossible. What Red Sea Fish Pharm are doing, is taking dried salt from dehydrated Red Sea water, then adding their own mixture to it. If one was able to make a salt mix out of sea water only, I dont think there were so many synthetic sea salt companies......sea water is FREE. -
What Up? When are ya guys making the test? Maxima, what up? ya got cold feet? You should see more Deltecs working man, these are the best machines in the world! Quality skimming=Deltec Water Hogz=Becket (HSA etc.) Both are good, but I'll take the German any time, (as I did).
-
Hi, Best test kits IMO are Seachem and Salifert. Both very accurate and very esy to use. There is also LaMott which I did not use for long time, too expensive, and I tested that Seachem and Salifert gives the same results.
