KH swings have devasted most of my frags.. things have stabilized abit so hoping its upward from here. random pic of my forest fire, one of the survivors
  3. Absence of pests would be one of the major benefits. You can seed the dry rock with bacteria during cycling, essentially converting it to live rock with time
  4. Nice one bro, very nice scaping that creates depth perception, considering it's a shallow 20g tank btw how is your sand not flying around with the gyre in there?

  6. Reserved.. thanks for viewing!
  7. Hi, letting go GSP frag on flat rock, about 2" x 1". There's a hitchhiking pulsing Xenia on it $5. collection at buona vista area. PM if interested
  8. Looks like feather duster, harmless filter feeder, good for tank biodiversity
  9. Looks like GHA, bryopsis tends to have more defined/thicker stalks best to remove it regardless
  10. Bristleworm, from the pic, looks like the harmless variety which stays about 1" in length
  11. Just sharing, I'm creating my new rockscape with dead rocks, no brand though, only ensuring that they are natural & not man-made

Was at my tank, noticed something on my leptastrea.. took a closer look & realized it was a bristleworm! Took some shots of the coral eating the worm, it took forever though, they are slow eaters after a while, a second mouth went to join in the feast
  13. Any tips on how to harvest the pods when removing the algae? Don't wanna 'waste' them, ideally I'd hope to reintroduce those pods back to the tank instead of introducing them to the dustbin
  14. It's an interesting thought on absorption efficiency with an ATS with cleared growth or accumulated growth.. IMO efficiency is maximized when the surface area for growth is maximized, that to me seems like the bottom line for ATS operation.. I would be cautious in 'keeping' thick growth because as mentioned by SubzeroLT, light may not penetrate that well to the algae behind the fresh growth & there is a risk that they may start dying off & releasing nutrients back to the system, limiting the effectiveness of the ATS

  16. How much nitrates are you starting with? As pcw mentioned, choosing between one or two changes, it's a question of whether you are reducing 50% or 44% of nitrates, which in absolute terms could be either a few ppm or decimal points of a ppm. In that context, I'd do 2 changes of 25% to reduce the shock on the livestock.. hope this helps!
  17. Check out EvolutionZ's tank thread, he performed a transfer of livestock during rescape.. great details on his thread but the key takeaways are: seeding the new rock with bac from existing tank either by adding some rocks or filter media from existing tank to your new system during cycling. Also can consider adding some water from existing tank to new. during transfer minimize the time the rocks are out of the water to minimize bac & other organisms die-off, minimizing ammonia spike & maximizing bac survival so that they can continue doing their 'thing' in your new tank
  18. Thanks for sharing this bro, very informative & I must say, your transfer was executed really well with advance planning!
  19. Nice job & thanks for detailing your rescape! Glad all of your SPS are still looking good or on either way back to coloring up. I have a question.. if I recall correctly, you did a dry scape with your new rocks correct? How long did you need to seed the bac in your new rock scape before transferring the SPS over? My thoughts are the bac population should be stabilized before the SPS are added? Could be wrong!
  20. Wow great coloration morph from jan to mar! The PE improved too! Nice one bro, hope to see more growth pics

  22. Pods are a good sign, flourishing microfauna suggests a maturing tank
