Just to add on... 8-10 is within the acceptable range of 7-11, so you are ok. I'm curious however, with the fluctuations that you are seeing daily.. If you have SPS best to have it as stable as possible
-
PH tends to fluctuate, higher in the day & lower at night, fluctuation mitigated by running reverse light cycle in refugium or consistently higher KH to buffer.. As for KH, Your KH movement is rather high, about 2 pts a day? Possible if you are keeping lots of SPS & clams? What's your dosing regime like? Add KH in the morning at one go & allow corals to consume thruout the day?
-
Tagging along, have not used CBP before, but have tried alternatives to Rowaphos such as API phoszorb too. In the end use gbpo4 btw when you say no effect, what were your phos readings before & after introducing CBP to your system?

thanks man! But cannot take credit, this is not my idea lah, made this only after I googled for many days on how other pple DIY ATO... Went to so many reefing forums, even freshwater ones too lol its a low-tech & effective ATO. But just like anything, it has its limitations. If bottle is not watertight, that's it, I'm screwed. This method does not have a float valve or sensor to stop overflow. if anyone can think of how to incorporate a fail-safe(ie. stop overflow) into this, pls share!

interesting... would there be salinity swings if top up is done every 4-5 days? Perhaps temp, PH fluctuations too unless your tank volume is huge? Being able to top up one shot is relatively convenient, did not have this luxury as the water level in my sump kept dropping below the return pump which pushed me to do ATO

Cool! Didn't know they spawn like this!

Amazing shot on the rainbow monti! The polyps are really multi colored..... Nice!

One letter stuck out when I read your post: prawnS How many you put sia, & how big is your tank? Usually half-prawn is alot already
-
It's striped black & white? Could be a bumblebee snail if so
-
Why is it not good? Some tanks would require more fans to keep the temp at allowable ranges, the effect of that would inevitably be higher evaporation, and ATOs are meant to keep your levels constant, preventing huge swings in parameters....

Wow nice SPS! what's e acro in the 4th pic?
-
Sure, here's what I'm doing; so right, once the water level drops below the shorter tube, air rushes in & displaces the exact volume of water out into the tank, keeping the level constant.
