  1. Thought I'd just share this sad post I saw on Nat Geo, the reefs in our oceans are dying.. Hopefully one day we, as reefers, with our knowledge & learnings gained from our hobby, can join the effort to save the reefs! Sad state of Nature's reefs

    DIY Wave Deflector

Thanks man, the Vimeo link shld work. Just tried it
  3. Hi guys, I had this idea in my head, had some spare time & random pieces of plastic just now... Sharing my rotating wave deflector which is placed in front of my return pump flow nozzle. It works! It may not provide back & forth wave motion but it will create random flow patterns! IMG_0915.MOV
  4. Good points there, I agree that long term adsorption media should be economical, else that's a lot of costs right there. btw do you know if nitratelock can reduce nitrates without the presence of phosphates?
  5. Wow that's cool, nice DIY tip on that! So the rounded tips somewhat lessened the flow/turbulence created.. Thanks!
  6. Yup, like what DottyClown mentioned, impt that your pump has sufficient flow to work the spin stream. If your pump is too weak, you can barely feel any flow from the output nozzle. That's what happened to me & that's why my spin stream is in the storeroom right now
  7. hi, can elaborate on how you sliced the propeller in half to reduce the flow? I think the rw4 has a low flow mode too rite?
  8. Interesting experiment! Will less flow thru the bottled media limit their effectiveness tho? how about using Algone to reduce nitrates? That's something which can be implemented without a dosing pump
  9. Yeah it is huge! Their mantas are rather huge too, glad to see they are healthy
  10. Wow your tank looks really illuminated! Colors are vibrant & not washed out
  11. Hmm mine was when I suddenly dropped my phosphates too, guess SPS don't really like that. Ok will try to dose amino acids too.. is it possible that when you fed more & stopped the scrubber, phosphates slowly came back up & that allowed nitrates to get reduced proportionately via the redfield ratio?
  12. Hi, I experienced such peeling before too, this is considered STN I suppose? Great to head that yours recovered, mine continued to deteriorate where the white areas spread. :( for yours, you just stabilized your nitrate levels & they grew back over the white areas?
  13. Nice, totally couldn't tell that it's the size of a 50 cent coin. Really like that at night it really opens up with all the tentacles & looks nothing like what it looks like during the day!
  14. Ok thanks, one day I'll try btw anyone using this? It's very useful for those deeper harder to reach spots where now I have to submerge my hands in the tank
  15. I'm using filter floss to pull out hair algae.. As for coralline on glass, I find that satay sticks are very effective, just the right strength to scrape & won't scratch your glass, but must be patience as the surface area of the stick is very very small
  16. Tried this by placing the turkey baster nozzle under my powerhead & squeezing out the air, seriously a lot of bubbles haha
  17. Interesting! I might try this out, it's like deliberately flooding the tank with micro bubbles from skimmers.. I am however wondering though, would it be good for sponges & other sessiles where air can get trapped in them?

  20. Nice pic! Bring NPS, they need steady supply of food in the water rite? Do you feed them phyto daily or something?
  21. wow, nice blue! Are they photosynthetic or non-photosynthetic?
