  1. Since you are running a nano, you can also consider getting LIFE distilled water from NTUC for top up & wc. like the rest of the bros mentioned, tap water can potentially introduce unwanted things which can have long-lasting effects, thus a DI unit to make your own water or buying distilled water is safer in that sense.
  2. Pictures would help, if it's just light brown top layer of sand, could be diatoms which feed off the silica in your sand. This tends to be a cycle which should pass with time supposing your tank is new. If it's a snotty-looking brown jelly with air bubbles, it could be dinos. That is going to be tougher to eradicate. If it's a thick brown layer over the sand, it could be cyanobacteria. Increasing the flow over the sand would mitigate formation, provided your nutrients levels are in check. hope this helps

Wow! This promises to be a great project! Your concrete stand looks badass too haha. Camping here for uodates!
  4. Wouldn't the runtime of a chiller & how often it kicks in depend on the temperature that you have set it to? ie. If you set it to a lower temp, the chiller would be running longer & more often compared to if you were to set it to a degree or two higher. unless such a setup requires a separate temp controller to switch on/off the chiller
  5. Omg, hope the authorities will intervene to protect what's left? Link to article
  6. Anyone letting go pls PM me, thanks
  7. Hi CKS, what's your phosphate reading with Rowa? I feel there's has to be some phosphate available for the macros to uptake, otherwise they would stop growing. Could be wrong though, I'm new to macros too!

Yes! I experimenting with ways to get them to be as hairy as possible
  9. That's great news! Hair algae is annoying to clear, good to know your CUC did the job. did you manage to identify the cause of the algae? Was it caused by high nutrients?
  10. Ah beng clams left with more larger size ones(4" above). Smaller ones left 2-3 pcs
  11. Wow! A reef thriving in muddy waters.. But maybe it will be wiped out soon. Oil companies are planning to drill oil wells on top of the reef The link to the article
  12. Wow that's nice! What's the SPS in the first pic? That light blue/green color is sick!
  13. You might be right, thanks! Seems to be a rarer variant though, as I understand most majano are more commonly seen with rounded or bubble-tip tentacles
  14. Hi, clearing another GSP frag for space. Nicely encrusted on 1" x 1" rock. Letting go at $8. Deal at buona vista area. PM if interested, thanks!
  15. Found this on my live rock, thought it was a zoa or paly at first, but noticed it has two rows of tentacles. Is it some kind of anemone? It's really small, shirt button size..
  16. Would advise against a 80% wc as that is way too much a change at one shot. Living organisms in your tank might not be able to adjust to the sudden huge change in parameters & some may perish, contributing to a buildup in ammonia. As for using of NSW or salt mix, I'd think it's really up to preference & convenience. With NSW there's always a risk of contaminants but I'm sure many bros here use NSW without any ill effects. Salt mix would be a lot of mixing given your tank's volume. if you are in the north, your closest might be kranji area where there's LCK, CF, etc

Maroon purplish branching macro growing near the top of the tank!
  18. Interesting idea, any idea if it has been widely practiced? To grow the bacteria at an optimum rate, dosing qty & frequency is an interesting thought too. Also I believe skimmer waste can contain more than the ammonia which is needed to kickstart the nitrogen cycle..
