You are using dead rock right? If so the exposed section should remain "biologically-inert" in the sense that part of the rock won't host water-dwelling organisms.. btw is your water level ok once you start adding pumps or wavemakers? Good to make sure the water movement on the surface doesn't cause spillovers

Very nice colors man... Your top right SPS summit is beautiful.. All the colors are there - blue, red, pink, green, yellow, teal, orange many thumbs up, one of the nicest nanos I've seen

Where to buy live copepods in East or Central area?
JMW replied to equiox's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Sorry if this is a stupid question... But how do you filter the pods out before adding them to your tank? Or you just pour the pods together with the LFS water into your tank? -
How do you normally train tangs to munch on seaweed
JMW replied to fatphotoboy's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Try to refrain feeding mysis & pellets for awhile, just put nori on the clip? It might also help to break up abit of nori in small bits, fish tend to nip at small bits floating in the current -
Ammonia & nitrite zero should be able to start slowly stocking already

Hey bro, no need target feed. It's photosynthetic. Thanks, yeah I'm trying to have various corals for diversity

I don't see maintaining that a problem as there is significant water movement on the surface because of the way I position my wave maker to increase turbulence, I have low bioload, biweekly wc, tank is in a ventilated room. Til now have not seen a need to run reverse photo periods or skimmers to further help maintain it

Hi my alk is around 7-8 now. Striving to keep it in this range. I'm maintaining it via automated dosing by pre-mixing KH solution inside my ATO's freshwater volume. The idea is as evaporation takes place daily, the ATO will automatically dispense KH solution too at a relatively even rate thruout 24 hours, preventing sudden KH spikes/drops which SPS don't like

Thanks! Thanks! Good to hear another 10G out there, for us the challenge will be space & maintaining stable parameters... I'm new to the hobby too, much more to learn from the many experienced reefers here! But most definitely any questions just drop me a message, will guide if I know the answer.. Cheers!

Sorry to hear that you are going thru this ordeal.. Yes need to closely monitor for next few weeks to try rid of them. Any colonies or frags that suddenly look paler or PE reduce or suddenly showing mesenterial filaments when it is not feeding time, these signs indicate that the acro might be under attack from these vile pests. Agree with your approach to scrap off all eggs & physically remove them instead of relying on the dip. Cannot take any risks. natural predation with wrasses can work, more effective if feeding is reduced, so that they actively hunt for the aefw. Check out Springeri damsels too, some have reported success with them eating aefw. will be beneficial to blow your colonies once in a while with the turkey baster, or use a small power head, this action can dislodge aefw & once they start floating around, your wrasses should grab them fast. Good way to 'train' them to eat aefw too. sorry for this long post, hope this helps! As much as it is disheartening, don't give up bro, with perseverance & discipline, these damn aefw can be eradicated!

What pest is this? Found it on my live rock
JMW replied to Mike Stone's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Brittle stars are not considered pests as they are beneficial detritus eaters.. Pls do not kill it! -

Those small white longish bugs? Those look like amphipods, a clearer pic would confirm it. they are beneficial microfauna btw, in helping to eat detritus & some but of micro-algae. They are a good food source for your fishes too. -
Not really, cos it runs so little. Kick-in for 5-10min, kick out for about 2hrs before kicking in again
