FAQs on water chemistry and Triton tests (Qns welcome!)
Iwarna replied to Iwarna's topic in General Reefkeeping_
How important is it to change the whole system to TRITON?It depends on the live stock you want to keep in your tank. If you want an aquarium like for example the TRITON display tank with a lot of sensitive corals and fish, highly stocked with SPS, then you should stay with the TRITON requirements to be able to reproduce the same success. If it is a mixed system, you can flexibly renounce one or the other. Should there be no success, then you could change step by step to all of the TRITON requirements. -

Does a change to TRITON method makes sense for me?This decision must be made yourself. When you are not satisfied with your aquarium, whether the amount of work or the appearance and health of the hard and soft corals etc., we are happy to offer advice and practical help. -
FAQs on water chemistry and Triton tests (Qns welcome!)

Feel free to ask any questions related to the water test, the role of trace elements being tested by the Triton method or remedies proposed by the Triton method. Some common questions we have been asked before by local hobbyists: -

We persisted, and waited, and delayed our showroom opening due to our insistence on using this lights and ONLY these lights...Without going too technical, our reasons are:(you can read more from: http://www.lani-led.de/index.php?id=7&L=1)1. Each LED runs in a 1-watt operation. This prolonged the life-span of the LEDs and saves me the trouble of changing tubes or bulbs . I believe Triton LEDs can last me 5 years or more but shall have to wait and see.2. No fan needed! I.E no noise, no need to change fans! After changing to using LEDs, although there is no need to change bulbs or tubes like before, I started to change fans yearly for the lights instead... >:( 3. No need to adjust lighting parameters such as LED colour arrangement and wavelength ranges by ourselves! - I am guilty of playing various settings of LED light and causing corals 'deaths and sufferings' for my light experiments. And worse...Before I can get it right, a new version checks in! 4. Extremely energy efficient - The Cree XT-E LEDs used in TRITON LANI LEDs with 1 watt produce 139 lumen per watt measured at 85°C, or 160 lumen per watt measured at 25°C (in 1-watt operation). Impressive for a 1-watt penetration for my 80cm deep tank! 5. Tested and proven (and verified by my trip to Dusseldorf!) - LED lights designed for biological use must ideally perform long-term public functionality tests in order to ensure safe, successful operation for extended periods. 6. Evenly illuminated aquarium - Maybe this address some hobbyists' FAQ - "Why is my crystal glass not as bright and clear as your Triton tank's crystal glass?"To conclude:TRITON LANI LED lights feature very low energy consumption and noiseless operation to provide perfect illumination of the entire tank. TRITON LANI LEDs surpasses the advantages of the previous types of lighting – T5 (deeper penetration) and HQI (lesser heat) and achieve high levels of energy efficiency. Having achieved the highest possible illumination quality solely with LEDs without having to operate a cooling device when temperatures rise.

Over the years of trying various LEDs, I have killed lots of SPS corals after converting from T5s and MHs. Even with the advancements of LEDs, new controllability and versatility, I would rate my success about 60-70% at best. Some SPS just can't hold up their original nice bright colours. Often my advice to my clients is to supplement with T5s after having limited success with their purchased LEDs.Before my trip to Dusseldorf, I have seen lots of photos of the German Triton tank and knew this tank is running purely on LEDs. I JUST have to see the actual tank for myself to convince the colours and growth in that tank is REAL!

The TANK!

For this Triton forum, we welcome all questions pertaining to the chemistry of your marine tank/s and how the Triton method addresses such issues.Even though our showroom tank is at it's infancy stage, we are updating the progress and looking forward to sharing this journey with all the reefers!http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/topic/136153-iwarna-triton-tank-302-sims-ave/Hmmm... Something is missing for a thread without pictures: Triton visit pictures:1. The headquarters in Dusseldorf Germany.2. The TANK3. The Labs4. The Packing area

Being skeptical like any hobbyists of the "no water change", we did a 1 year test on a 500 litres tank. The results were extremely encouraging. We have since taken the plunge to build a 1500litres tank in our new little show room!We welcome any reefer to drop by to have a look at our display tank from 11am to 7pm daily. Even if after hours, the tank can still be viewed from outside the showroom.302 SIMS AVE #01-07.After reefing for so many years, I found myself excited and learning like a Newbie again! With no water change, I spent MORE TIME on the tank, staring and looking, looking and staring... "I think today's polyp extension is 0.001mm longer than yesterday!"It seems lesser work doesn't mean you will spend less time with your tank.

How do we do this? - Triton professional lab tests - Dosing of required elements- No routine water changes Tank Requirements:- Display Tank of good length/width/height ratio and flow - Algae-refugium with 10-20% of main tank volume- Strong skimmer- Full spectrum display tank lights- 6500 algae lights- Reliable dosing pump and dosing containers.- Phosphate remover (if required)Easy application right?

Taken from the link below (Written by Tim of Triton UK)http://forum.triton.de/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=81What is the TRITON method? The TRITON method is a “method to develop and permanently maintain a complete reef ecosystem in an aquarium”. So what does that mean? To “develop” a complete reef ecosystem you must know what is happening with your water, and adjust your water to as near “Natural Sea Water” (NSW*) as possible. *The “NSW” set points have been chosen by Triton after many years of testing of 1000’s of water samples from around the world, some elements have been adjusted to suit the aquarium environment. To “maintain” a complete reef ecosystem you must do just that, maintain, by ensuring that your water stays at as near to the chosen set points as possible.

Over the last couple of years, my colleagues and I have received numerous queries to the TRITON Method of reefing. Through this Triton forum, we hope to address your concerns and introduce to you the holistic approach of reef-keeping.I prefer to use the word 'method' over 'system' as Triton is a conscientious way of acting, based on scientific knowledge, full trace-ability and transparency for the user. Embarking on the Triton Method may seem daunting and even costly to the uninitiated. Yet for a newbie, this method is easily adoptable due to its easy 'practical know-how' requirements. The method intrigues even the most experienced reefers/chemists/scientists to challenge the boundaries of chemistry within this marine ecosystem and see for themselves how the Triton Method simplifies, eliminates guess-work and delivers results. After so many years of reefing for both myself and my clients and through endless trials and errors, my team and I are now convinced by the Triton Method. Nothing will gratify me more than sharing this journey with the hobbyists through this forum. So what is the Triton Method?
