  1. Not really haha. Just a modest 2 ft, about 80 litres only. I have a 3 ft (190 litres) lying around but must figure out how to position, DIY sump creation etc etc since I don't have a cabinet. My biggest headache now is the damselfish that came with my live rock... he is bullying ALL the other inhabitants. I just witnessed him biting and dragging my fire shrimp from one end of the tank to the other.... Need to remove him but I can't catch him!! Anyone got any ideas how to catch a damsel? He is super fast and skittish and my bottle fish trap failed to catch him too.
  2. Then should change name to Holiday Wrasse instead haha. I heard they burrow at certain times of day to rest Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  3. My target is actually cuttlefish, but I might have to wait a while since I just adopted some shrimps and gobies Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  4. Bought from Jireh... the small live rocks section (cheaper ones). They got quite a few very well encrusted ones. I used them to seed the rest of my live rock
  5. Thanks for the info bro. Fingers crossed!
  6. Very nice, bro! Did you dose any supplements? Your live rock seems to have become encrusted very quickly. Mine is still turning red halfway only...
  7. Hi all, hoping for some help. I happened to pass by a certain famous freshwater LFS and to my surprise (and a bit of horror), I saw this moray eel for sale (sorry for the bad photo) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimbriated_moray According to my experience and research, this moray should not be capable of living in freshwater in the long run. So i quickly bought it and am currently acclimatizing it via overnight drip method to my brackish moray tank. I have done several times before for all my brackish morays (i have both gymnothorax polyuranodon and gymnothorax tile). Hopefully he survives the night! I now have 2 options. Either I 1.) let it live in my brackish tank and hope he can tahan, as I read that they do live in brackish from time to time(SG 1.008) or 2.) Acclimatize it back to marine and put into my FOWLR Any bros have experience acclimatizing a fish back to marine?? I have no idea how long it takes and I don't want to rush in case I end up killing the poor guy. Appreciate the advice, thanks!
  8. Hey bro, I already took down my DIY skimmer after buying a proper one. But you can visit this link instead. I followed this guide http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2195533
  9. I see, thanks guys. Can't believe this small coral manage to survive the live rock curing process. Very proud of my first coral! Haha
  10. Hi all, I have this thing growing on my live rock. Wondering if its some sort of coral? It opens up like an umbrella in the light and closes into a ball when the lights go out at night. Any experts care to enlighten me? Thanks!
  11. I have read about it and I've looked around but it seems very pricey... I also have the added problem of the tank being in my office, so that means I have to hook up the RO/DI unit to the pantry tap, which might not go well with the management. Will the prolonged use of tap water be a huge problem in future? Some articles I read claim its ok as long i don't keep sensitive corals.
  12. I tried it... It works!! But it sometimes goes mad and dims, have to smack it a few times for it to work
  13. Wah 8rm per kg is incredibly cheap!! The cheapest in Singapore I know is sgd $8 per kg
  14. So, something happened... I knocked my light INTO the tank... Almost put my hand in to grab it! Luckily I stopped myself in time and quickly switched off the main, but by that time the light already got soaked and went out by itself. I don't think there was any electric shock since everything inside still looks alive... Does anyone know if I can still use that light? I opened up the casing and took out the florescent tube and left it aside to dry. Not sure if it will explode if I try to turn it on
  15. Brilliant idea and I love the pics, really explains everything clearly! Thanks, this is very informative
  16. Hahaha of course! I'm just cheapskate. But I already ordered some cheapo china brand skimmer online, lets see if its better or even worse. I will probably eventually get a proper skimmer in future For fellow cheapos, here's the link to the forum where I learnt how to make the DIY skimmer http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2195533
  17. Hi all, I’m new to the hobby and just saying hi. Have been in the freshwater hobby for about 2 years now (I keep a variety of oddballs) and decided to venture into marine after doing some research. After scrounging up some spare equipment, I’ve setup a modest 20 gallon / 80 litre nano tank. Specs as follows: 2 feet x 1.5 feet x 1 foot OF tank 400l/hr Boyu pump with sponge filter 8kg live rock 6kg live sand Single tube 2ft T5, no idea about the brand (temporary) 1 x DIY skimmer made from mineral water bottles 1 x unknown damselfish (live rock hitchhiker, super unexpected) So far so good, tank has been running for about 1.5 months now. Water parameters seem oddly stable… No ammonia spike at all for the last month. I do weekly top ups with dechlorinated tap water and do 1/10 water changes weekly with Red Sea salt infused dechlorinated tap water. I try to minimise the evaporation by covering the tank with a piece of acrylic. Temperature is about 27 degrees because of free aircon (it’s in my office, lucky me!). I supplemented my live rock with 1 kg of bits and pieces of coralline algae encrusted rock from Jireh, in hopes of seeding the rest. The results seem good, some of my other rock is turning blood red/orange already. I also spotted a tiny organism on one of the pieces, not sure what it is (polyp? Mushroom coral?) as well as a weird yellow thing on another rock (spongebob?) I actually also have a tunze 6025, a few more other powerful 2000 litre/hr pumps and another 2ft tank full of dead rock that is still curing (1 month) as well as random bottles of coral addtivies and phytoplankton lying around (not adding in anything at the moment). Initially put in the tunze but my unexpected burden damselfish couldn’t even swim properly in the current so I settled for the Boyu instead. So that’s about it. Please feel free to point out any improvements I could add in. I’m guessing my rock arrangement is quite fail and I think my Boyu isn’t providing enough flow. Also please forgive my poor photography skills. I initially just wanted a simple FOWLR to keep cuttlefish, but recently I’ve picked up interest in soft corals as well (too ambitious!!). Resisting the urge until my tank is more mature. So yup, cheers all J
  18. Very nice tank bro! I can't believe when you said you're a newbie. You have so much great stuff inside already. My tank is still waiting to stabilise before I dare to add anything
  19. I myself am using a DIY skimmer made up of 2 mineral water bottles, but i never saw anyone make a mini refugium using a breeder box! Very cool! Could you kindly share what's the exact setup of the breeder box? I can't really tell from the pics. I'm assuming you just have a pump taking in water from the tank, flowing through the fuge and then overflowing back into the tank?
  20. Was thinking something similar, I recently read up that its always better to make sure only the smallest areas of live rock touch the sand bed. This prevents detritus building up underneath or in dark corners etc. over time. Sad to say, I made that mistake and now I have some rubbish collecting and rearrangement to do Otherwise, your nano looks really cool!
  21. You can use this website as a reference. That's how i'm building my tank at the moment. They have info on many species, just that you'll need to find out the scientific name to pinpoint certain species. They actually mix and match different species and give you warning if it's incompatible. I added the link below as an example, looks like most lionfish species need a bigger than 2.5 ft tank. Hope this helps http://www.marinecompatibilityguide.com/tank/52a533d5
  22. Interesting info bro. Just curious, why does doing that cause it to spike? On that note... I've adjusted my live rock a few times within the last month of cycling and my hitckhiker damsel disturbs the sandbed all the time... omg Luckily water parameters still seem fine... for now
  23. While I was researching on beginner soft corals, I read up that Zoanthus (button polyps) and Palythoa species, which are popular soft corals, are actually highly toxic. If their toxins enter the bloodstream (maybe cuts on fingers or accidentally rubbing eyes) it can easily cause death. I added a link to wikipedia for easy reading. Other websites also report similar info. Might want to be careful just in case! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoantharia#Dangers
  24. Haha, actually he's not so incredible. Just that I bought the live rock from a fellow reefer and he was nice enough to put all the LR inside a foam box filled with water... That's how the hitch-hiker damselfish survived
