What kind of algae? Brown stuff like Diatoms? I have the same problem, most probably due to using dechlorinated tap water for top up plus excess light from my refugium leaking into the tank. Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Or maybe copper in the water? Snails cannot tahan copper apparently. Shrimps and crabs are still ok with a small amount of copper.

i find them very pretty too, but the maintenance is super ex. The other way recommended to sustain them is to buy a few chocolate chip starfish, then slowly chop off 1 leg, feed the harlequin, then the following week chop off another starfish leg to feed. Every leg can sustain the harlequin for about 1 week and the starfish will grow back the leg in about a month i think. But it seems a bit cruel to me, so i decided not to try. Worse part, they only eat the tube feet part of the leg, so you have to manually pick up the remaining leg and throw away before it rots away and messes up the water.

Some new additions! Skunk cleaner now has a friend. Strange, I always thought shrimp are loners, but these 2 like to hang out together Grey chocolate chip star. I know starfish supposed to eat dead stuff, but nothing dead here at the moment. so trying to feed it pellets

I think so too, starting to have cyano on the sand floor and the glass. Been cleaning the glass recently. Lucky i got a hermit now and he seems to be sifting it and eating some of it

Hi bro Truepercula and bro JMW, thanks for the tips. i tried messing around with it as suggested... it doesn't really feel slimy and it's doesn't "rub off" after i rubbed it with my finger. So does that means it's confirmed coralline? Or maybe its something else lol PS: I confirmed kena cyano on my sand, brown slimy and stringy stuff all over. I think the light from my makeshift refugium is escaping and helping these buggers grow. Lucky my hermit seems to be sifting the sand a bit.

Nice job! It looks cool. I somehow got the image of a giant robot perched on top of an island Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Oh sorry, my mistake. I mixed it up with a UK brand of DIY ATO Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Ohh I saw that before, but I thought they don't ship overseas? How did you get yours, bro? Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Hey people, I have a 2ft tank worth of live rock to give away. Has been coppered before (my water is at about 0.1 ppm. Lowest reading on the Salifert copper test kit) and I use them in my quarantine tank. Each rock is about the size of your palm, some slightly bigger. Fair warning, to my knowledge, copper is ok for FOWLR (my damsel has been living in there for a month), but not so good for sensitive corals and invertebrates. Collection near woodlands after working hours, or Pasir Panjang later at night. PM me if interested and bring your own pail! Thanks!

OMG.... serious?! If you don't mind could you help me ID it? i'll post a close up picture of one of the rocks tomorrow... If it is cyano then i'm in deep trouble.

Another thing that I did which I think most bros here will think I'm crazy... I topped up my water for the first few weeks with water from my freshwater tank... Which has some nitrates. Maybe that helped too?? After all, most algae require nitrates and phosphates to flourish Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

I have had good success with coraline algae for some strange reason despite using only a normal 16 watt T5 white fluorescent light. My tank is 2ft though, so perhaps the higher wattage per gallon helps? I started my tank with 10 kg live rock from a fellow hobbyist and my rocks started turning red within 3 weeks. Now 3 months later 3 pieces are totally red while the rest have small patches of red here and there. I also added small pieces of coraline encrusted rocks later on but it doesn't seem to affect the growth rate. Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Just curious, why would the LPS be affected and die from the clownfish hosting? I thought they do this in the wild anyway? Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Ah I see. I better go check my tank now in case haha. That's cool to know Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Oh, good point. I never thought about that. What about the rock parts touching the bottom? Should I cushion them with Styrofoam to be safe? Not sure if sand sifters would dislodge then though Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

I always have this problem, but I found a workaround. You try switching tabs, switch here switch there suddenly it loads very quick. Anyway, thanks admin! Appreciate the help Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Just some updates... Added some life into my tank! 3 pieces of rock with mushrooms on them, one cauliflower in the centre and 3 pieces of GSP 2 coral-banded shrimp, 1 skunk cleaner and 1 pacific fire shrimp and 2 random snails. Only the skunk likes to come out and show himself. The rest only slack till meal time Starting to think that the tank looks a bit crowded now. Maybe I need to start shifting some stuff into a separate tank. Very exciting!

Seems like everyone got the same issue. Guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for fix

Hi all, during a recent discussion with a fellow hobbyist he mentioned that acrylic tanks (like those GEX 2 feet kind) should NEVER be used for marine setups. This came as a surprise to me as I never thought there was any issue with acrylic as I have been using GEX/Fiveplan acrylic tanks for the last few years for my freshwater tanks. According to him, seawater requires glass as it is more dense and hence requires "stronger" material. Any bros here have experience in using acrylic tanks? Are they really "weaker" than glass tanks? PS: I have started 2 other tanks using Gex acrylic tanks, seems fine so far...

I also kena from the latest update. I researched and the most probable cause is that the site's plugin is outdated and cannot talk to the latest update of Tapatalk

Thanks for the info, bro. So it's a kind of soft leather coral right? Any particular care needed? Right now I just let it be, haven't added any additives and ensure medium indirect flow Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

Hi bro, according to my research, Gymnothorax Tile and Gymnothorax Polyuranodon are supposed to be brackish, though they can be acclimatized to marine. In fact, they were being sold as freshwater at the LFS. The only real marine one was my fimbriated moray, who sadly passed away just today, before i fully converted him to marine (he was also sold as freshwater) No more eels left. I also decomm'd the whole tank and washed it just to be sure there's no more of whatever killed them. Now to take a break and wonder what to do with the tank... Haizzz

By the way, his crime is murdering two gobies. That's how fierce a damsel can be... Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

A nice guy just gave me this coral (along with some mushrooms) but I have no idea what it is. It's light pink and seems to be some sort of leather coral, I think. It can't seem to stand strong flow and will become sengek and closed up, like a sleepy cauliflower. but when it opens it looks soft and feathery. Can someone help ID please?
