This is why I've quite made up my mind to use artificial ceramic rock for my next set up, though the cycling process will take longer due to the absence of existing bacteria found in live rocks, but you will have 100% peace of mind that your tank will be clear of pests. Heard from Iwarna Uncle that the artificial rocks are made to be more porous so that we can house more bacteria. Bros can consider this if you are setting up a new tank!

My experience with Dinoflagellates
Notslig_Ant replied to patricklhc's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Yup, I agree with bro Angel Keeper.. I have been advised to invest in a good skimmer as well WC to facilitate in nutrient export, increase flow in tank, and most effectively throw in a few turbo snails to clean up the tank, I bought 10 snails and my dinos were all cleared in a few days, and when they cleared a particular area, the dino wont grow back on the same spot for a while. -
Algae growing while cycling tank
Notslig_Ant replied to M&M's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
hi bros, Yup, Turbo snails work wonders! I having some dinoflagellates which the snails are also helping to clean up! I was recommended by ah beng to get a sea hare, but the sea hare he's trying to sell me is kinda big for my tank, so just stick with the snails for now. -
Hi all, just to give a quick update on what's happening to my tank. 1-2 weeks after the above post the diatoms have slowly cleared off. As many experienced bros have mention here an in the other threads, diatoms is just one of the new tank symptoms that will pass over time as long as water parameters are in check. but currently I'm having some Dinoflagellates which I'm trying to fight them off in my tank, but will share the experience in thread discussing about that also in the nuisance algae help forum.

Dear Bros, I'm currently having a 2 x 1.5 x 1.5, just went through the cycling process and had a mini diatom bloom in the midst as well. With the tank cycled and did a 40% to remove No3, I went to buy a pair of Banggai Cardinal as the first residents in my tank. However, I realised that they are always hiding among the rocks and seldom swing around the tank as I would love them to. Is it normal for them to behave this way, or is that something that I need to do? At the moment i think they are eating fine, and one of them only tend to swim out when i off the room light at night. I haven't started a lighting regime for the tank yet, as I'm camping to change my lights and there no corals in the tank yet. Any Bros can advise? thanks alot in advance!

Great Job Bro, So so inspired reading through the entire thread!

Thanks Bro, Will check it out!

Hi Bro, you can try adding bio pellet into your filter or buy some chemical to dose, personally I'm using bio pellet to reduce the phosphate level in my tank, having a mini diatom bloom as well.. Already did a 40% WC too. Can try asking the more pro bros here to recommend you on what works. Jia you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ok, cos the feedback I received is that not good enough for the corals and it emits quite a fair bit of heat as well. I'm planning to change to something better? but something like a Razor is already quite ex for me, so still camping around.. Any recommendations from bros out there? thanks!

Hi Bro, I read earlier in the thread that you are using the HI-Lumen 60, have you changed your lighting already? is it working well for your corals? thanks!

My Marine Tank 2ft (l) x 1.5ft (h) x 1ft (d) [1+ year]

Wow.. Inspiring! -
Thank you bros for your replies, Actually I'm not using a RODI unit at the moment as my tank is only 60x45x45, Initially I bought DI water from Iwrana and mixed with sea salt, and recently bought salt water from Jireh for the WC as mentioned above. but will take note if I get a RODI unit in the future, will update here on whatever happens to my tank hereafter.

Hi, My tank is also having a mini Diatom bloom, was told to watch on my phosphate level which is slightly on a high side of between 0.1-0.25. Ideally suppose to keep it near zero. I did a 40% WC, cut down on lighting hours and used reefmax Amophos. Monitoring my phosphate level.. lets hope that it goes down so that I can start adding my corals.
