Improve survive rate of newly bought fish
Dez Ching replied to wanwan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hi guys, I'm new to marine. Can I know what is the best to feed fishes? I see many people have different opinions on feeding. Some pellets, some sea monkeys, Mysis shrimps, krills etc. What brand of pellets is most suitable for marine fishes? Can someone guide me on this? Thank you. -
And also, how do you feed an anemone? I posted in another topic, but no one replies me. I'm new to this, and really need to be humble to ask more questions to learn and abstain from livestocks becoming dead-stocks. Can aso guide on feeding Anemone? Thank you in advance.

Hi bro, what happens if the anemone have chocolate sludge fluid coming out from it's mouth? Is this normal, or it means that the anemone is on its way to heaven? Can advise me too?

What happen to my fish?
Dez Ching replied to melvinkuan15's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hi Guys, I have just completed my cycling for my 4 feet tank using a 3yr old bacteria king bought from a TOTQ reefer. I have just added in 3 LPS corals, 2 cleaner shrimps, and 1 small-size six line wrasse, yesterday. However, my skimmer pump is spoiled(bought second hand), can I know what would be the survival rate if I only add in skimmer by next week? (I will do minimal feeding and no more adding livestock until skimmer is functional). Any advise? -
Nope! He removed from his sump tank to pass me on the day of collection. I got it from him in pail with his saltwater. So all BB should still be valid. The issue is, is there a need to replace, or top up bacteria king?
-
Any seniors in the reef club has experience on how to successfully keep the off-spring of cleaners shrimps that was spawned thrive? I recalled many were end up free food for tank mates or down and under into the overflow sump... trapped and gonez... Does anyone has knowledge on keeping and feeding?

Hi Guys, I'm new to Marine keeping. I am currently still cycling my 4 feet tank, and keeping clams is one of my chosen option. However, I see that there can be rather stringent criterias I need to watch and take care of before I keep one. Can someone please gide me to successful clam keeping? I only wish to keep easy clams, for variety purpose, not those expensive clams... Can someone guide me how to feed a clam too? And what to feed as well. Thanks.

long worm in the sand... is it good or bad
Dez Ching replied to mechgobi's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
OMG! I realized my currently on cycling tank too has such tiny bristle worms buried in the sand bed. After I saw you guys mentioned that it will grow and then crawled up to my already cured dead rocks, I think I will have to be fast before such dreadness happens... But how to possibly catch all sial...? -
Can I know how to feed an anemone? I'm new to this. I have recently started a 4feet, and will wish to keep an anemone.
-
That's good information for me. I will do just that. Dipped the impellor into vinegar and washed the area around it then apply Vaseline to lubricate it. Hope it can upkeep equipments

Hi I'm new to this, I have gotten a maxpect razor 16K 160W lightset, but I really find the colours not to what I preferred from my long time past experience I had with Metal Halide. You mentioned that we can change to 10,000k or another bro mentoned 8k, or 20K. do you mean the same lightset can change settings to them?

Hi, can I know if there is a need to change bacteria king? I thought the key is to house the bacteria colony only? I have recently bought bacteria king from a TOTQ reefer, whose bacteria king has been in his sump for 3 years. I believe that the longer the better, right? Rather than if I use totally new bacteria king media to start cycling, I used his for my new tank. I believe my cycle would be cut short by a lot of time too. But now that I read you all advising bacteria king to be replaced? or top ups? Is it really necessary? I'm new to this, please advise me correctly, yah? Thanks.

Cycling of your new live Rocks
Dez Ching replied to Harlequinmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Thanks for the reply Bro Harlequin Mania, it sure gives me a booster. Knowledge is power. And it need experience over time to accumulate, which I really lacked off for both. Coz' I have always preferred love rocks to dead rocks, even for a start, if not for I saw successful professionals like you guys recommend newbies like us for dead rocks to start off the hobby. Good to know, the dead rocks I'm starting off now will become the purple I preferred in time(hopefully not in years, Haha). -
Hi Bro, thanks for the advise. Which means we have to do both bleach and Vinegar wash on a same equipment? 2 times? Coz since one is alkaline and the other is acidic, they both have different properties to wash off impurities stuck on the rocks/ equipment. I see, so we can also add Vaseline? Ie to the impellor of the pump head? No possible chemical reaction with our saltwater in the tank?
-
Maybe someone can enlighten us altogether about how a vinegar wash can be done, and how effective it is to upkeep our equipments for longer efficient life. I have always, and still think, that a vinegar/ bleach wash may afterwards affect our water conditions when we place them back into our tank. But having so many successful professionals here doing so, I think newbie like me either just follow, or better ask to learn more on this hobby along way. Can someone guide on vinegar wash/ bleach washing of rocks or equipments?

Cycling of your new live Rocks
Dez Ching replied to Harlequinmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
By the way guys, I have one big predicaments. I have although read quite abit about many who uses dead rocks started to have their coralline algae grow back to purpleish colour rock again, but what I would like to know is, will the regrown coralline algae colour/ texture, be of that similar to live rocks when we first bought at LFS? I have seen some, whom their so-called coralline algae looks pretty disgusting decolourated purple, or was it that I saw those at early stage of their regrowth? So will the regrowth colour/ texture of the coralline algae on our treated dead rocks be as nice as the original dead rock first bought at LFS? -
Do you just clean with clear water? Does using Vinegar to wash helps? I see that many reefers macam like to use vinegar to wash most marine equipment. I'm totally new to this, so will vinegar wash helps? When we say Vinegar wash, do we mean only a few portion of vinegar mix with water, or really 100% only vinegar to wash/ soak the pump/ equipment? *puzzled*

Cycling of your new live Rocks
Dez Ching replied to Harlequinmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I think the more feasible and convenient way for me is to wait for someone to post WTS:Dead Rock. Haha Else a live rock curing I heard is a big and troublesome thing. And it takes long time. -
Thanks guys for the replies. My pump is a Eheim 1260, and I'm very certain that, though without rubber suction cups beneath, my pump body don't have any direct contact to the glass of tank, as the styrofoam acts as a separator between them. So rattling sound isn't from that source. My pipings is a Eheim pipe and it fits direct from pump to chiller, without valve, so the rattling noise isn't from this source too. The noise is surely from the impeller area I think where I felt might be due to sand or some dirt deposits rotating together with the impeller. Since morning until now, the pump is quiet without rattling noise now. I so called guess my crucial part is pump maintenance then. Since I did dismantle the pump for a simple brush off last night. And the noise went away this morning unknowing what I had done right that rectified it. Normally how do you all wash or service your return pumps?

Yah man, bro, do you all know where I can buy dead rocks too? I need to add a few pieces more as well. -
Picoreef: Bro, the noise is not caused by vibrations, as I had already put a cut-to-size Styrofoam at the base of the Eheim pump to reduce any possible noise that may be caused through vibrations from the pump-body and the sump. Last night, I did a simple dismantling to brush off calcium deposits and dirt that was found within the pump. But after completing and operating it, the small rattling noise was still there. However, funnily, this morning when I woke up to check, the rattling noise is gone, and only left the standard humming sound of pump. *Puzzled me to the max* What is the thing that causes this rattling noise in my pump, since sometimes have, sometimes don't. Presumingly, it might still come back again, as I have not found the real cause of it. Anyone knows how to upkeep a return pump to maximize it's potential and life?
-
I'm using a second hand eheim return pump. It was only having a standard humming sound(noise), but it now sometimes produces soft rattling noise that is rather annoying to me. It happens after I start adding sand and rocks. Could this be the reason? Anyone knows how to resolved such noise which wasn't there in the beginning? Will a dismantling wash help?

Yah, after much thought I think had better go for dead rocks. So many professionals here goes for dead rocks, I had better follow and fall on the safer side. And I had just picked up some dead rocks from a nice reefer. After some cleanings, I should be ready to input them into my tank. -
I use bean animal system so not much noise on overflow. That's why I factor in lower noise pollution as criteria so that can have silent night viewing too.
