So it safe to use 1.5hp compressor? It come with a temp controller using those round pin plug. I think should be 15 amp. Can I change it to normal square pin plug? Thanks. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk

How do you guys wash your filter socks?
Bryan Ng replied to josephwzr's topic in General Reefkeeping_
For my case, I change sock every 2 days. Used socks, I just inverted them and throw into a pail with 1 cap of bleach. Collect about 6 to 7 socks, throw them into washing machine and wash using the baby care function(hot water I think) with 1 cap of bleach. Then sun dry them for at least 3 days. Better qt your fa and teach it to eat pallet 1st. After that, throw in 1 cheapo zoas to test water see if it eat zoas anot. Angel and zoas really don't go well together. my fa never touch zoas for 3 weeks, than 1 fine day choose to clear my zoas.... few hundreds gone. Heart very pain.... The most imporant part is the check valve. Make sure you really glue it silicon it tape it whatever way you can think off to make them air tight. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk

So do you wash the socks? For me I have 1 big sock for my overflow, 1 7" sock for my aio reactor. What I do is change both sock every 3 days, regardless if they overflowing. Throw the dirty socks into a pail fill with half full of water, soaking with 1 cap of bleach. Every 2 weeks wash the socks using the washing maching, adding 1 cap of bleach. I used the babycare setting, which use water at a temperature if 95. After washing, air the socks for a few days before I start repeating the cycle. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk

Another method is remote deep sandbed. You can try Google for it. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk -
Overall wet skimming is better than dry skimming but required more maintenance. You need a pail to collect skimmate which take up more space, cleaning the collection cup and pail, topping up of water unless you have a large reservoir fot auto top up. Dry skim more for lazy people, wash the collection cup once a week or longer. Another method some people used is wet skim before a water change. So you skim out the amount of water you wanna change and top it off with new salt mix/NSW. And adjust the skimmer back to dry skim. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk

This I don't understand. It a hobby we like, so why does it matter if we meet the wrong people. If Not happy just stay away from them. No need to give up the hobby. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk

dry skimming is when your skimmer is producing an almost dry foam, it will take a while for the collection cup to fill up. wet skimming is just that , your skimmer is turned up almost all the way and produces a liquid that is close to "tea" color. this will fill your collection cup up very very fast. When you look at the bottom of the collection cup, there is a outlet where you can install a pipe or tube to a pail to collect the skimmate so that it won't overflow from the collection cup. I think maintain mg 1st, as mg can affect both cal and dkh. When mg is at the desire level, can dose both cal and alk and adjust from there. Why mg 1st? It the most stable of the 3 and mg can affect the level of cal and dkh. Sent from my HM NOTE 1LTE using Tapatalk
