  1. RESized...but how to take out the old ones?
  2. Sorry for the missing pics... here's the algae....
  3. They are already jpeg files in my harddisk...but i am not sure how to use the IMG tags...keep telling me they are dynamic files and cant be uploaded...
  4. Got a little problem here...must the pics be on some webpage in order to appear here in the forum? Can they be straight from my hd? If not...can anyone recommend a webpage to upload them to? Thanks
  5. Hi, have noticed a rather good looking macroalgae growing on my rocks of late...the growth is immensely slow. Fortunately there are no tangs to devour them as yet. Next is this 2" crab that is always seen nibbling off the backwall of the tank. I have caught at least 5 crabs using prawn bait in a chicken essence bottle. They were all kind of a dirty brown colour. However, this fella here looks different from those I caught, it is much darker, bigger and seems to be a "vegetarian"...haha...herbivorous? Not sure if the pics turn out?
  6. Suitability is actually quite subjective...if you don't have a sump then a canister is quite useful. However, I do feel that having an overflow system is much more convenient. Shucks...i don't have one lehh...
  7. Definitely...every day have to turn on the airconditioning...and stupid tank running at 30 odd degrees daily.....geez
  8. Hi, just wondering which of us adds strontium into the tanks? Also, have you determined that your strontium levels are low before adding? Any difference to your live stock for adding or not adding??
  9. typrobin, sorry but i don't really think it is very accurate to say that max temp for corals to survive is 29C and to thrive is 25C. I believe some reefs are around the 28,29C region..esp those in the Phillippines.. Then again, if temperature was a factor, maybe it was the sudden change in it rather than the temperature itself. Maybe, just maybe.. My 2 cents...
  10. They eat stuff off of live rocks too....read somewhere they eat green stuff...hmm
  11. Been using canister for the past 6,7 years i believe...just added a skimmer for the past week
  12. Guys, this is off-topic, but do you use your skimmers 24/7? Except when emptying and cleaning the collection cup? If so, what's the rationale behind it? Thanks.
  13. Salinitity a factor? just my 2 cents...
  14. Hey ppl, Guess most of us use skimmers here in this forum. Though I have been in the hobby for a while, the usage of skimmers is pretty new to me. I wish to know what a skimmer really takes out of the water. I heard from a friend that not only does it take out the bad and the ugly, it also takes out nutrients and even elements that you dose as supplements. That being true, then one would really have to keep up with the dosage with the skimmer churning? Hence, is it wise to use the skimmer 24/7? Or is it better to turn it off after dosing some additives? And turn the skimmer back on in a few hours/half a day's time? Which of you folks use it 24/7 except when emptying the collection cup? And which of you use it periodically? And what's the rationale being that? Thanks for any answers that you guys could provide. Cheers!
  15. Hi...recently a relative of mine decided to stop reefing only after less than a year. Inititally, he was overwhelmed with enthusiasm like most of us are. Yet, as time passes, perhaps he realized there are more important things in life like having to get hitched and raising a family and he is seeminly set to let it all go. Though i was disappointed as there's one less reefer less in this world but I guess his reasons are vaild. Just wondering how many of us here are seriously addicted into this hobby...let's have a poll and find out
  16. Hey ryz, sorry to hear your losses...good idea to hold on to your purchase of fishes..however, if after some time your existing fishes are still around...then possibly it wasnt just the mantis doing the killing...or you would have a starving mantis
  17. hey ppl...got a dumb question, but i tried to post a picture but was told its a dynamic picture and it cant be posted. WHats a dynamic picture? the file was a jpeg file. thanks
  18. hmm..i removed the sponge and switched on the skimmer and it looked ok...however, if i switched to the max power, the overflowing starts again. Hence now it remains at the slowest pump rate, and after a while i put back the sponge...hope it stays ok?
  19. well...about 2/3 of it is submerged into the water...and facing straight down, how does that affect the skimmer though?
  20. i dosed a bit of seachem reef advantage calcium with the water topoff....you mean that could be the reason??
