Hi, we have all come to understand that wool and floss in a canister filter is going to be a nitrate factory over time. I am using an Eheim and there are 2 compartments for media in which I put Chemipure and Polyfilters. These products mentioned that filter floss should be placed before the inlet water reaches them so that only water passes through the media. So how goes? Is it okay to not use any filter floss at all when using these products in a canister?Thanks for any input.

i think what i was trying to put across is...unless u have tested for strontium and found it less than adequate for your tank...then you go ahead and add some supplements...otherwise there isnt a dire need. let me find where that article i read is and post the link here...

if i am not wrong, harlequin shrimps only feed on starfishes...your gobies will be safe... in fact most shrimps for the aquarium trade should be pretty peaceful toward gobies...unless mantis or dwarf lobsters, u would want to avoid those..

perhaps that could explain why some flame angels are priced cheaper at certain LFS than the others....hmmm...food for thought

er...i don't think its very right to say strontium isnt good for a reef tank. A lot of marine organisms utilizes strontium to some extent. But from what i learnt, there isnt a need to dose it unless you have tested your water and there isnt enough of it NSW conditions. Ditto for iodine, iodides,etc...
