  4. Hi..have a question on red macroalgaes. Why do they grow so slowly as compared to green ones?? What sort of conditions would accelerate their growth? Thanks for any input.

  11. T95: Catalaphyllia jardinei Euphyllia ancora, glabrescens, cristata, divisa Plerogyra sinuosa
  12. Never used Reefez products before personally, but i think Chemipure is really good even if there isnt a 1 litre pack. Hydrocarbon by 2 little fishes also not bad.
  13. Hi...am using a Sicce Extrema for my 2012. Right now it is tuned to almost at the minimum volume of water per hour, however, the skimmate is already very dark coloured. If I were to turn it up, more liquid will flow into the collection cup and hence a diluted skimmate. When I first started using the skimmer ( a few weeks ago), I had to use the maximum flowrate available for any skimmate to formulate. After about a week, more water than anything flowed into the cup. Does that mean the water has been "cleaned" and hence a lower flowrate is enough to work the skimmer? Is it true that a high flow rate for pumps are better for skimmers? Why? If I had known such a low rate was enough to run my 2012, I wouldnt have purchased the Extrema.
  14. Just thought of one more thing...you should lots of circulation in the tank, preferably 10 to 20 times the water volume. Stagnant water will encourage the growth of such nuisance algae.
  15. Spotted any purple tangs or flame hawks recently?
  16. Has anyone been changing the water since you are studying in UK? Or only topping up?If the amount of nuisance algae has smothered even your mushies, i think theres a real problem. If there's no one to take proper care of the tank while you are away, I doubt any amount of Rowaphos would help.. Just my 2 cents..
  17. Sighh...its little wonder why they(native chinese) are so stigmatized when they come over here...
  18. Bro Ricordia, really need the mithrax to save my tank, please reply soon, thanks.
  19. Hi...i suppose for overflow systems, the water drawn is from the surface of the tank. However, without a sump nor a overflow, where should the water be drawn from for hang-on type skimmers? Right now my pump for the hangon skimmer is drawing water from the bottom of the tank. Would placing the pump nearer to the surface of the water be a better choice - that is, there would be more efficient skimming, and thicker, dirtier skimmate? Thanks.
