  9. i hate exam in NTU! -- no time to go LFSing ... i love exam in NTU! -- let mi spend more time with my tank at home while studying . anyway just bought a bubble coral from AM yesterday. decided to go for a walk . fire shrimp is eaten up by my paired cleaner after molting. running 2 prizm help to maintain water quality in my little 2 feet without sump. decided to change to ROWAphos from phosguard after getting a reef tank. make myself feel better haha.
  10. a very down to earth breakdown. IMO, should go for a realiable one .
  11. bro , where is this Shing Siong?? can enlighten mi ?
  12. maybe he miss his green home anyway luck plays to a certain extent on anemones and clownfish pairing , give it some time . heard that yellow anemones are dyed. maybe that is why he is not hosting it ?
  13. actually a canister itself is a nitrate factory unless it is maintain regularly. i just dump 1.5kg of biohomes and some eheim coarse pre filter in my classic 2215. nitrate is about 12.5ppm using tetra but i am running 2 prizm at the same time for my 2 feet.
  14. yup. feeling of serenity everytime i step in my room while watching my little reef. but no ones knows the hard work and painstakingly effort =) but it's still worth it .
  15. yup reserve for u as u are the first one . can come on weekend as friday having exams. pm u my add and contact le.
  16. reading is 25ppm using tetra ... yup trying the wet skim as u adviced. haha.. just that now need to clear the collection cup very often.
  17. whao .. thanks blueheaven. saponification is a difficult word for mi. skimmer work better after dosing kalk. care to explain... thanks !
  18. many reefkeeper have been using kalkwasser to replenish calcium concentration, maintain alkalinity and raising pH. This is common to all. but is it true that kalkwasser can also precipitate out phosphate ? calcium phosphate as precipitate ??
  19. hi, had the above to give away. was given by another reefer . had no use for it . pm mi if u want. self collect in sengkang.
  20. need to decide the size of tank together with the filtration system u are using . brand of salt is very important as i saw some fresh water LFS packed packet of salt claiming sea salt without any brand. nobody want a unstable ph or impurities in their tank. brand like marine environment / tropic marine are no doubt one of the best salt. but they come with higher price. corallife is great in my opinion after switching from red sea which i think it's the minimum trusted brand u should go for . skip the floating hydrometer . give u headaches and eye strain . use a hydrometer at least . for super accuracy , use refractometer . actually red sea have this package in a box where there are 10 kg of salt , 1 hydrometer and several testkit and addictives which i think cost around 45 dollars at one of our sponsor shop for starter. sand will be difficult to maintain but with sand u can watch some sand dweller intrigue behaviour , pistol shrimp. for aestatic purposes . DSB works to remove nitrate in a stable system but seemingly it can accumulate undesirable toxin too if not properly maintain. as for mi , i go for the hardworking way, change water every week lor . and i have minimun sand for my viewing pleasure , seem more natural with white sandbed . it's a personal preference. choice of skimmer will determine ur water quality to a certain extent. personally i prefer prizm because it's sleek and hang on, i have no sump . i feel a minimum of weipro series is needed . actually once upon a time i was using weipro 2213 for my 2 feet. with the correct tuning and pump, it can skim out good skimmate too. choice of lighting is important for coral. read up more . should include ur setup wih at least a fan / chiller if u intend with coral. cycle period depend on a lot of factor. e.g cure live rock. otherwise after a peak of ammonia, will come a peak of nitrite, then nitrate will slowly increase . only when ammonia and nitrite zeroed, ur cycling is complete. stock slowly . read more on the intended fishes and coral before buying . generally in this hobby, the more exorbitant an equipment is , the better/ more durable , more effective it is ...sometimes it's the brand that command high price too. get to know a few friends with the same hobby especially in SRC to guide u.
  21. nitrate level has been maintain 12.5ppm using tetra for a week . daily feeding with small portion of 2-3 times.
  22. generally pico tank is one of the challenge i dare not take up. other than unstable parameter come with flatuation with temperature , then too much evaporation , then unstable salinity, limited LS and coral, difficulties in getting the desired equipment. e.g too powerful pump will cause sandstorm, too strong lighting will cost greenhouse effect. nevertheless, jia you. since tank vol is relatively small, i feel a constant 15-20% of water should be change every 4-5 days to enhance stability to the system. possible to run a sump. though it's not easy, it's not too super hard too.must be hardworking in maintaining a pico. abolute no fish will be the best with colourful softies . unstable parameter does not help to keep clam/ SPS/ or even LPS is not that great either.
