  1. some update. tunze 6060 is replaced by SEIO 1100 , which i think is a better choice. now my LPS is opening well.... white xenia died PINK gonio died
  2. yup , the normal itch parasite is in the tank, it is very hard to get rid all of it... unless u go fishless for at least 30days or hypo for min 6-8 weeks to totally eliminate the ich parasite in the tank. UV control by killing the parasite passing through the unit but cant totally eliminate. ozone is a faster and more effective but more complicated way to kill parasite. however if ur fishes are strong , they will fight off the parasite themselves. like immune system , after a while , they are vaccine against it.
  3. ya ... u will see his thing getting longer and longer.... the dorsal fin
  4. This thread is for the Admin and the mod, maybe it is time for some clean up and upgrade. for instances, (1) Ripples Cafe seem to be like History, but it is still there in the forum. (2) The De Floral Advertisement seem to expire since 2005 (3) The Tip of the week seem to be like Tip of the Year i have been in SRC for 2 years plus plus, i seriously hope we can have a more up to date forum in term of platform ...The overall platform is very simple and easy to use, but i feel it is like getting 'old'. Maybe more involvement from moderators will be great too.
  5. that's the thing about sun coral.... i love supersun and sun , they brighten up the tank a lot , but lazy to target feed .... to hardworking sun owner.
  6. DOC is dissolved organic compound which is soluble in water. the layer of 'stuff' is most likely oil from feeding or simply ur fishes poo. a surface skimmer or a overflow box will solve the problems. even if ur DOC is very very low, i can assure you that it will appear after u feed .. say pellet or even frozen mysis or brine. or even dipping ur hand into ur tank cause that to happen. however not to worry, it will not affect the aquarium system drastically , but removing it enhance water gas exchange and light penetration.
  7. as for mi , i just have a thin layer of hydrocarbonate as my substrate . i dun like BB for aestatic purposes, somehow a bit weird. i dun like DSB, it take forever to work and is a time bomb for hydrogen sulphide buildup.
  8. yeah ! 2 feet cube is a good size !
  9. the optimum pH for reef is about 8.2. all the parameters looks okie to me, maybe u can dose alkalinity buffer and your pH will be stable with time. maybe u measure your pH late at night or early morning which cause a slight drop in ur reading ....
  10. just crack without any warning ??
  11. fan cool the tank by evaporation theory. something like latent heat of vapourisation within water is lost to atmosphere?? anyway with that, in order for it to be effective in cooling, ur atmosphere temp, which is ur room temp must be reasonably cooler than the tank system. and of course , thr better the coverage of the wind generated by the fan on the tank, the more effective is the fan. As for mi , i used to face my fan directly at my water surface
  12. ur wrasse is in the frooggy stomach ... not MIA lah
  13. all skimmer work the same one lah. all are trying to achieve max. nos. of minute bubbles. but one bad thing about airstone is when u turn the air pump too high, the collection tend to overflow and airstone need to change regularly to max. efficiency which will increase cost. why not a tunze 9002 or my skimmer biostar flotor ... deltec 600
  14. maybe the airstone is worn out and not as effective as before. thus the increase of DOC within the system increase the amount of algae ??
  15. as for mi i use those cheapo china pump to mix my salt
  16. soaking in fresh water pratically kill the beneficial bacteria too. good and bad thing involve ... anyway i never soak my rock in FW before, buring the cycling , the ammonia spike will kill almot all the wrom too... yuck!
  17. as above. pm mi the price , no. of polyps ,

  20. Magnetic holder for all Turbelle® pumps and Comline. The magnetic holder permits uncomplicated mounting of components at any position on the aquarium pane; encapsulated construction; requires seconds only for attachment. This model is for all Turbelle® up to 45 W and one Comline component each up to 12 mm (.47 in.). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After light, current is the most important parameter in a marine aquarium. Conventional aquarium pumps generate excessively high flow rates in the core area of the water jet, but on the outside of the core area the current is too low. This difference leads to stress for the aquarium inhabitants, such as coral polyps. TUNZE® research sets new standards in current patterns with the aim of reproducing every zone of a coral reef in the aquarium: Our new Turbelle® stream pumps produce gentle current speeds at high flow rates of up to 20,000 litres (5,283 US gal.) per hour. These pumps are not suitable as filter pumps. A universal holding device for horizontal and vertical attachment on glass panes of up to 19 mm (.74 in.) in thickness is included in the consignment. 21. guess what ? this is the first qn i ask in SRC when i join this forum .... ya.. it is reef safe but it will dig ...
  22. u are right minireef. i feed cyclopeeze while i clean my canister and all hell break loose . i guess it is the combination of a lot of factors that happen at the same time to cause the skimmer to overreact. will not feed cyclopeeze. flooding is no joke
  23. ya ... the phosbuster does increase skimming activty , however this time seem to be more serious than the other . cannot remember whether i shake the additive . the unusal activity stop and the kH drop to 6 after 50 % water change with marine environment. it could be lower before water change.now using reef builder to correct the Kh. thanks bro madmac
  24. i start to believe that after i off my skimmer for maintainence, it clogged out the water outlet and right now must clean my skimmer regularly. thanks bro iantoh and colinsoon for sharing ...
