Hi bro, i turn off my return pump and wave maker during wc and im also using a siphon with gravel cleaner attached at the end of it. But you still need to hold it at the same spot where u siphon the sand and let it settle down nicely back on the sand bed. So far so good, no sand storm..

My snails dont touch the diatoms at all.. what i did was to do some manual brushing of the rocks and siphoning of the sand during weekly water change..

Hi lenenkie, i have a 2 ft tank as well and i am having a sand bed or around 2.5 inches deep. Before i first started, i had this question as well. But most of the information i found online says that it actually takes about 6 inches of sand bed to make it a DSB and its takes a ling long time to cultivate the bacteria that consumes nirates to turn it into nitrogen? If i rem correctly that is.. I am a newbie as well, i find that weekly 15% wc and a oversized skimmer plus polyp lab biospheres is doing the job well for me at the moment. Plus im overfeeding almost everyday. Nirates have been at 10ppm for the past 3 days. Just my humble feedback

I have recently upgraded my skimmer to the deltec mce300 and yes, its a world of a difference.. first time i see dark brown skim mate in front of me lol, too busy with so many things that I just didnt have the energy to update my post.. I have also added rowa and polyp lab bio spheres since last week, but it seems that my nitrates level is not dropping at all.. reading last night was 40ppm.. kinda thinking probably rowa and bio spheres dont work together, still gonna monitor it for another week before i decide what to do.. Also gonna get a chiller over the weekend, shall post some updates then Btw, i have a packet of DD biopellets to give away (impulse buy), used 100 ml only, realised I need a reactor for it and i really have no plans to get one in the near future. Its gonna be bio spheres or wc x 2 per week for me to keep my nirates down.. Let me know if you guys need it~! Cheers~!
