  1. Haha! Either way they freak me out. Especially when I'm doing some rescape and one huge one decide to crawl out. Gosh!
  2. Got these pen holders from Daiso to house my biofilters in my tank. They come with a nice 45 degree slope which allows me to put one on top of the other and cable tie the 2 holders together to form a nice housing for my bio filters. The holes are just nice too.
  3. Want to try soaking it in fresh water first before you submerge it into your display tank?
  4. Sherilyn, nope it won't be live anymore if u sun dry it. But it is one of the best way to ensure that these worms are no longer in your tank. Do you happen to have a sand bed? If you do, the bacteria from the sand bed should be able to reseed the bacteria in your rocks. Thing is that you would need to cycle your tank for a longer time.
  5. Wah! Thanks for the heads up Harlequin. Guess I have to see if the slides can b shipped in on Amazon. If can't then I got to look for other monitors already
  6. Hi Dales, The alternative to a hot air blower would be a Butane Gas Soldering Iron Kit like the one in the picture. Most 1st floor shops at Sim Lim Tower do sell this at less then $50. Get those in the box and make sure they have the attachments as shown in the picture. One of these attachments would be a flameless heating element which works just like a hot air blower. It is refillable and can be used as a cordless soldering iron too. Very handy tool to have.
  7. I'm planning to get it soon. From what I asked, there is only 1 disposable slide to be changed and it's $45 per set of 3 slides Each slide lasting 30days. So monthly operating cost is $15. There are no hidden "membership" or Subscriptions fees. So the cost of the slides are the only cost to bare.
  8. The bigger your chiller, the higher chances of it being in stand by mode as it takes a shorter time to cool ur tank down to the required temperature. (Some small chillers won't even be able to get to the temperature you want and end up running 24/7) However, it also depends on other things like number of pumps in your tank (each pump contributes to the heat in the tank) and tank placement (sunlight or no sunlight).
  9. Good job! I think what most people are afraid of is an overflow of the main tank when the overflow system fails.
  10. Fresh n Marine is a good local online shop where you can do your equipment comparison. You can also visit http://www.madpetz.com.sg//index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_180 and http://www.aquamarin.com.sg/abrand.asp?catcode=6&cn=Protein%20Skimmers to expand your range of search. Some key things to consider (in no order of importance) would be: - Skimmer Size - Price - Skimmer placement (In sump/In tank/Hang on back) - Maximum tank volume (As much as possible do not get "Just nice". I saw some bros getting a skimmer that is effective for up to 5 times their tank volume.) While you are reading up, do search for youtube reviews as they give you first hand experience from other users.
  11. The common recommendation would be to get the biggest skimmer that your sump (if you have one) or ur budget allows. If you are going without a sump, u can either get an internal or hang on back slimmer. The reason why bigger is better is so that u dun have to worry ur skimmer will not be sufficient for u to stock more lifestock within your tank. Tunze is a good brand so is Deltec and Skimz.
  12. It will be worth it as u won't know if there may be more pest then just that worm
  13. PSLE ongoing already ar.. Do ur best for the next few days and u will be on your way to a whole new level of enjoyment
  14. When u change water can bag them up and give the pods away
  15. Just saw one being sold. >.< I missed the offer too.
  16. There's the bid going on at market place for 2 Maxspect Razor reconditioned sets. Might wanna look into that. If u wanna know the Brandnew price for reference, it's on DE Lighting website http://delightings.com/index.cfm?GPID=111
  17. After having one through 2 "just nice" sized chillers. I honestly feel having a chiller "too big for the job" would be better. It can effectively bring down ur tank's temperature within minutes and then switched off while "just nice" chillers are often running 24/7 because they take hours to bring down your tank's temperature, many times not even being able to reach the desired temperature. This would also translate to way shorter running times per month and much lesser electrical usage.
  18. I think we have to consider ourselves fortunate that Singapore is a small country where all lfs are accessible, even those in Malaysia. If we were to be in countries like the US or China, there's like only 1-2 lfs per state, hence the term (local fish store). There u won't even get a choice on which lfs to buy from regardless of whether they chop carrots or not.
  19. Yups better to test ammonia and nitrite rather then nitrate. Before u add livestock, both ammonia and nitrite should be zero as they are both very harmful to lifestock. Nitrate should be as low as possible cos high amount is also harmful. Usually most people change 50% of their tank water to help reduce Nitrate. The other way is to allow for nitrate bacteria to grow and reduce the amount biologically.
  20. What are ur ammonia and nitrite levels?
  21. Yups I do agree with Blackcell. Even now that my tank is coming soon and I have already gotten my dead rocks. I'm still contemplating all other options like ceramic rocks from Iwarna and even PVC piping like Madpetz.
