Got a few items from a nice reefer here. Bags of ceramic rings , oyster shells & Corals chips ( medium sized , like those dried corals ). anyone here noes what the purpose of the oyster shells & corals chips? will the coral chips have any effect on the PH of the water ? and will it increase necessary nutrients for corals to thrive? thanks in advance.

Its Been 3 months plus since i've setup my tank. Till this day , my skimmer hasnt skimmed anything. My fishes are healthy and active , and i fed 2X daily ( HenryReefGourmet n flakes ) . I havent had any algae issues either. My tank mates : 2 normal Clowns , 2 Maroon Clowns ( 4inch & 1inchplus ) , 1 naso tang (3inch) , blue tang (3 inch ) , hermit crab . SKimmer : Euro Reef RS80. There isnt much foaming in the neck of the skimmer . I've a IOS tank & the water goes through this filter process : normal filter wool > Carbon Filter wool > Activated Carbon Pellet > Skimmer i'm wondering if the carbon is actually affecting the skimmer production. I mean its great that my fishes are doing good despite the situation of the skimmer. But i wan to noe if i should change my skimmer or just let tis be and wait till something actually takes place? ( idk wat also ) .. Any bros to advice me? Tired googling my issues but still cnt figure out anything.

Beware of canister filter bro. ITs known for being nitrate factories n maintenance is a chore i suppose.. Try invest in a small sump for now. Reduces chances of screws up.

Better to use refractometer n ur own salt mix bro. I had a couple of issues with hydrometers n they r just useless in my opinon. Save ur money n tyme, just invest in a refractometer.. N its better to mix ur own salt as u r able to know what goes into ur 'tank water'. Saves the trouble of going up & down for NSW too. My 2cent opinion bro. Happy reefing

wtt following fishes. 4inch fishes, healthy but recovering Frm color fading as previous owner neglected the fishes. Maroon clownfish Naso tang Blue tang They don't have any diseases cuz my other fishes are healthy n fyne. Just need to take care tis fishes proper.. Willing to trade for skimmer./wavemaker

So basically i used fresh activated carbon ( 1 whole mesh bag ) to try absorb whatever toxin it maybe in my tank. I got a hermit crab and tried it out in my QT tank ( dripped water from the main to the QT , at a extremely slow rate ).. And surprisingly the hermit is active and eating well. Its been 2 days . So its either my tank is safe for invertebrates or i have a super hermit crab waiting it out.

My salinity is always kept at 1.026 bro.. My tank is reasonably stocked and yet till tdy i haven seen my skimmer skim anything.. Should i just get rid of tis old skimmer n get a new one? And i am wondering how my fishes are surviving when the skimmer isn't skimming the organics out of the water.

Just an advice bro, dn rush into stocking. U cn end up losing all the fishhes b4 Christmas . Make sure u haf sufficient biological media to be able to support the bioload you expect to keep. With a tank of tat size, probably u can keep. 6 - 8 jevuniles fishes.. If u are plan on keeping slighlty bigger fishes (2inch-3inch), stick to below 6. Enjoy ur journey bro. There's lot to learn, dn b discouraged Its a addictive hobby
