  1. Thanks for the tip. Bio Pellets are supposed to remove both Nitrate & Phosphate right? And Rowaphos is only removes phosphates.
  2. Tank cycling has been about 1 week with the market prawn still decomposing in the tank. Ammonia - 0ppm Nitrite - 0 or 0.25ppm (not so clear with the API kit) Nitrate - 25ppm (steadily climbing over the past days). Tested with API kit as well - somewhat similar readings. Phosphate - 0.5ppm I guess I should let it cycle another week? Time to set up the refugium with micro algae & Rowaphos?
  3. Since I'm using a Skimz overflow box, I figured I better some redundancy in place in case the display tank overflow. Added a float switch next to the overflow box connected to the Apex such that when the water level rises near the brim, it cuts off the return pump.
  4. The Apex Neptune energy bar came with a Euro plug - really dislike it when products come with Euro plugs. They usually don't get grounded when using the typical multi plugs. Alternative is to cut the cable to change to a regular 3 pin. I found a Euro adapter at Sim Lim Sq 3rd floor - UF Technologies Finally wired up the Apex Neptune I got a Bubble Magnus probe holder from DE Aquatic & found that it does not fit the temperature probe of the Apex. The probe was barely 0.5mm too large. Had to file the hole a little bigger to accommodate it. It was OK for the pH probe. It was OK for the
  5. Started cycling my tank. Added a small piece of market prawn with Prodibio Start Up This is after adding 2 bags of reef sand. Cleared up after a night
  6. I saw the carribsea rocks today at DE Aquatics. Quite nice indeed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Btw, I think the bacteria for freshwater n saltwater could be similar. Prodibio bacteria start up kit can be used for both freshwater n saltwater (as stated on the packaging). This article also mentions it. http://www.algone.com/nitrifying-bacteria-and-the-breakdown-of-organic-waste-in-the-aquarium Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. And they colonize more effectively in a darker environment. That's why freshwater canister filters are usually have dark containers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Ouch. Which overflow are you using? I have one of these which I bought the last time I was in USA (does not ship to SGP) : http://www.amazon.com/Glentronics-Inc-BWD-HWA-Basement-Watchdog/dp/B000JOK11K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414106545&sr=8-1&keywords=water+leak+alarm Here is one that does : http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-RWD21-Water-Leak-Alarm/dp/B00BIBD4EY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1414106545&sr=8-3&keywords=water+leak+alarm Have you thought of preventive measures instead of detection? (eg. float switch to switch off the return pump)
  11. You can bring in non-CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) species without a permit. http://www.cites.org/eng/disc/species.php I understand that CITES species & bringing in larger quantities need a permit, which i'm not familiar with. This is what I know for bringing things in without permit. i.e. (non-CITES species & without permit) - Fish. Max 30 pieces packed in not more than 3 litres of water per person per trip - Corals & invertebrates. 5 pieces of not more than 5kg in total weight per person per trip Best to pack in a Styrofoam box & checked in (no hand carry). Sealed with tape & big clear red sign that says " FRAGILE!!. LIVE FISH" Using a separate box instead of putting in your luggage reduces the risk of it being thrown around & mis-handled. If you are within the above AVA guidelines, no need to declare at the customs area.
  12. Welcome to the forum. This is a pretty good list of shops in Singapore
  13. Thanks for sharing your setup. This is a useful reference as I'm thinking of getting one soon. How items #4-#7 are used for the CR setup? (i.e. larger tubes & pump)
  14. Supposed to mix the mud with very fine grain sand? Then a layer of sand on top? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Nice tank! Which specific equipment do you hook up to your UPS?
  16. This is an excellent chart. Not seen something like this before.
  17. Got my Toms Aqua lifter from Pet Mart @ Serangoon. Do call before going down. I hear its a fast moving item.
  18. Looking forward to more pictures on the progress . Nice equipment! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. No worries. These are all good information to know & share. I was thinking perhaps a Jebao DC2000 (2000L/hr flow rate). And since its DC (not AC), it has variable power output which can be easily tuned down via the controller.
  20. Nice setup. I see its a good idea to have both the filter & skimmer right at the front for ease of maintenance. Really adorable dogs you have
  21. i'll be dosing bacteria to speed things up. Yes, I got a pack of NPX bio pallets. Pending to get a media reactor. OK...noted to run in at the same time as cycling.
  22. I got a 200 micron & also a 300 micron 4" sock to try out. Thanks for the tip. Will monitor it.
  23. Thanks. Trying to be as neat as possible. But I know its short lived. Once the power adapters for the various devices goes in....its back to a messy sump.
  24. Just trying to get a reference once i start my tank. How many days before your filter sock clog? How many micron sock? Any suggestions? And I'll be using salt mix for cycling. Probably start the cycle process in 2-3 weeks time. (out of the country next week)
