Some progress pics : Dec 26th 2015 Jan 15th 2016. Colored up quite nicely. Thanks Alston for this nice frag --------------- Dec 30th 2015 Jan 15th 2016 Tips & green starting to show up. Hope my tank conditions can color up similar to that seen on Larry's impressive colony. A long way to go. Thanks for the frag.

Quick sharing of additives/gadgets. 1) Selcon - - Very often new fishes do not take to pellet food or frozen mysis immediately & only feed on live food. One of the few live alternatives is live brine shrimps. However, they are supposedly not very nutritious. First saw this product introduced on Vivid Aquarium videos. I've been using Selcon (contains omega3 fatty acids & vitamins) the past year with good success of keeping newly added finicky eaters alive long enough for them to transition to frozen mysis or pellets. - Just add a few drops to some brine shrimps. Let them consume it for about 15 minutes prior to feeding to your tank. 2) Pure Aquatic Sea Feeder - a very long feeder for corals - Very well built. Extends from almost 21" to almost 3ft long - Opening on the tip is about 1mm. Suitable for target feeding coral food (eg. reef roids) or dropping small pellets during pellet training. Hole is not large enough for frozen mysis. - The pointed tip is supposedly for putting bits of meat for feeding anemones 3) Holder for Ecotech Vortech wavemaker driver - Had a bad experience of the velcro / double sided tape losing adhesion & the driver almost dropping into the sump - This holder should resolve it 4) Nyos test kits - Watched some good video reviews on how well built the Nyos skimmers are. Supposedly a good brand from Germany. Trying out the test kits.

The water level in the return section seems too low. Not enough 'buffer' water before its too low for your return pump. I understand its because of the backflow when the return pump is off. Hope the suggestion to break the siphon with a small hole on the return pipe will work in your case.

How are you measuring your salinity? (eg. Swing arm hydrometer or optical refractometer) I'm suspecting that the tool you are using is inaccurate. For most reefers, ~1.025 specific gravity is perfect for mixed reef.

Have you tried live brine shrimps? Live brine shrimps may not have much nutritional value, but at least they get to eat something. If that works, consider to fortify the brine shrimps by adding a product called "Selcon" (contains Omega 3 fatty acids & vitamins) to the brine shrimp about 15min before feeding it to the fishes. The brine shrimps will consume the selcon which in turn be eaten by the fishes. This is what I do for my newly added picky eaters. Works every time to ensure survival before they slowly transition to mysis & pellets.

Interesting. Has an in built circuit breaker as well?

There are 316 grade stainless steel hose clamps available. About $3. I'm using those for many months & still not rusted. -
Link up Apex with AI Hydra? No, i'm using the AI app (on ipad) to control the lights. The ipad interface is amazingly simple to use. Also, at this time, i understand that the HydraHD cannot link to the Apex Neptune system via the AWM module. Only the original Hydra works with Apex AWM.

Strong wavemakers too close to the surface can generate a lot of surface movement. Try moving it lower. Or some wavemakers like the Ecotech MP40 have a shield on one side to deflect water movement & not draw air/water directly above it.

Teck Cheong does not cut to specifications. At most, they will do a rough cut to shorten the 5m for easy transport. Prestech does cut to exact specifications.

A general guideline for LEDs is about 10" or more. Personally mine is about 12" away from water level. The Hydras come with 80deg lens. So this can help you gauge the spread of light & how high to hang. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Very nice setup. Good equipment there. The front center of the tank has no sand?

All in one product to use to get reading oh water
SubzeroLT replied to Yuwan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Seneye has a Seneye Reef product at the moment that measures Temp, PAR, PH, Ammonia....not really that useful for an established tank. They are coming out with a new product soon that can also measure nitrate, nitrate, KH etc. https://www.seneye.com/coming-soon Seneye products work on a subscription model where one needs to purchase consumable 'slides' that measure these parameters. -

Thanks very much for the nice gesture. Its an interesting product. Using it for my 40L tank. With a gear mechanism inside, the nozzle rotates at a slow/controlled pace. -

How do you guys wash your filter socks?
SubzeroLT replied to josephwzr's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Overall, the felt socks would have a larger effective surface area & can trap dirt better than a thin (nylon) screen. I plan to stick with the nylon ones because they are good enough (at least for me) & easier to clean. -
Mine is under moderately strong flow with the MP40 quite near it. Its currently running under about ~500 PAR lighting. Hope to see the blue tips soon. The 'lashes' on the blenny is interesting :

Ha...noted that bone cutter is banned. I bring PAR meter instead.

Sorry for your loss. I also wanted to say thank you for graciously letting me have the bigger colony back then. This helped as i was sharing it with several others.

Even though my tank is small & it goes through less water than most others, I'm changing the 3 carbon/sediment filters of the RODI unit once a year. Its about $24+ for the set of 3 at Madpetz, which is not that bad. This is after around 2500-3000L of clean water out of the unit. Its been about a month with the new Hydra HD 26 (Product review here : http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/topic/139052-ai-hydra-26-hd/) Some of the frags are starting to color up. Previously all green milli starting to show colors. Its supposed to be a red milli. Long way to go.... Red monti growing faster : Valida Tabling acro started to show its purple tips Some recent addition : From the last SA shipment. Not able to hold the light pink colors though. Green Goblin Some kind of pocci
