  1. Usually pods will hitchhike from live rocks at the LFS, fellow reefers or even corals. But if you want to speed the process up, you could get some pods from fellow reefers to seed the tank. Chaeto usually has pods with it too
  2. Cool. May I kindly ask a few questions? What do you feed them? What temperature is your tank maintained at? Are these creatures blind to red light? Thanks
  3. I never knew this would work so well. Thanks for sharing! I was wondering how you managed to take photos that looked so natural haha time to pull out the GoPro filter I have lying around. Thanks!
  4. Yea that's true about the temperature increase. But I haven't come across a wave maker with a flow rate lower than 300l/h. Perhaps there are some out there ba. Just wanted to suggest possible alternatives. Anyway, good luck finding (:
  5. I would consider anything under 20 gallons as a nano. But anyway, a small powerhead should suit your purpose since you're looking for something below 300l/h
  6. For nano tanks, if you run an IOS, perhaps you could just get a stronger return pump? Alternatively, you could use a small powerhead instead too.
  7. Looking to trade live rotifers that I'm culturing myself for RODI water. As for the quantity, I'm looking to negotiate first. Note that the live rotifer cultures have some copepods in them too. PM for discussions. Thank you.
  8. I can't really identify much from the photo. But following your description, possible creatures could be spaghetti worms, feather duster worms or vermetid snails. Could always searching the individual photos and match to what you have I guess.
  9. Won't BBQ wire mesh rust very quickly?
  10. 29 degrees is warm but I don't think peppermint shrimps will die at that temperature. The main issue is with the change in temperature rather than the temperature of 29 degrees in and of itself.
  11. I tried coffee socks but the rotifers were too small for the coffee socks. The vast majority of the copepods will be caught by the socks though. If you don't mind the wait, filter paper will surely catch all. In the end, I bought my sieve on ebay for 10 bucks or so.
  12. Its a crinoid feather star. Almost impossible to keep from what I've read.
  13. Just went there early this year. Its a straight forward route from the MRT station to the fish street. Its quite a long journey though. The other pet stores sell a number of exotic pets (pythons, star tortoises etc but not as extreme as Chatuchak market) If anyone is interested in freshwater stuff, the fire red shrimps there are really really cheap.
  14. Wow the algae from your UAS is amazing haha how long did it take to grow though?
  15. I recently set up a small tank using live sand, dead rock and NSW. The rock had diatoms within 2 weeks. I think you need to check for your nitrates.
  16. I second the use of an ATS. Its so efficient that it nearly killed off my chaeto. Both were on the same lighting schedule, 18 hours a day, using two separate PAR 38 bulbs, each with 450nm and 650nm LEDs. Now the bulb lighting my ATS is turned on for half of the original duration. Nitrates and phosphates are undetectable by salifert, API and Red Sea test kits haha gotta be certain. But my Xenias have suffered. Not sure if its because of the nutrients since everything else is doing fine.
  17. I used driftwood in a brackish set up before. It rotted quite badly in the course of 8 months. I don't have pictures and it was quite a while ago anyway.
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to cure live rock, isn't the rock just cycled with salt water such that the die-offs are complete? You seem to be describing the process of drying out/ bleaching rocks. By doing so, the rock will be dead already. i.e. dead bacteria and other organisms After drying the coralline will be white but this certainly isn't 'curing'.
  19. Confirm titanium? Or is it stainless steel...? Titanium reacts with air to form a protective layer of titanium dioxide. This layer is usually very thin and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Either way, titanium dioxide is white. Might be dirt or the coil could be steel? Try bringing a magnet to it?
  20. Sorry but correct me if I'm wrong, I was under the impression that PEs were Zoanthus gigantus?
  21. I would say that it depends on your intended purpose? If it is to control algae/nutrients, then I would be inclined towards FRs or an algae scrubber. If you want to have a refuge for pods then chaeto.
  22. Hmm yea for breeding.I was looking for something transparent though. Easier to see the mandarin fish eggs I'm trying to hatch haha
