  1. You can if you are experience and able to tell if anything is going wrong. All the equipment is to allow for margin of errors for inexperience reefers like me so that the biotope don't crash when something goes wrong. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. My discus experience: higher temperature, fishes are less likely to suffer from parasite, but the downside is oxygen concentration is lower. Will need better aeration. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Definitely feasible I think. But I would suggest you split the down flow into 2 parts as the refugium would appreciate a slower flow. Would steel last in a saltwater environment? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. The last time I did that I washed the sand thoroughly, put the sand in a clean plastic bag, lower in to tank and cut the bag up. But do switch off your power heads to further prevent a sand storm. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I was reading up on the forums and realized that the set ups now no longer uses dsb or plenum. They are no longer popular? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Which skimmer are you using? I at least found a local dealer for schuran. I do like the pico ca reactor. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I would suggest cleanup crew. I had some algae break out and the convict tang took care of it in 3 days time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Wonder if I can pick up where I left off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. currently still short listing potential models and brands. Now fretting over home loans and renovation contractors.....
  10. Plus I will need a higher tank if I want to create a standing wave in the tank right?
  11. well I was still looking at schuran jetskim and only realized that now venturi are no longer popular. Needle wheel was good during my time, but they mostly fetch a premium and cheaper ones aren't that good.
  12. well I am not advertising for anyone, but I tried to contact Royal Exclusive. They responded: currently in the region they only have dealers in HK and Taiwan, or considering getting from them direct. I am concerned about the GST and checking with them if they can declare the value during postal at a lower value. Plus shipping probably take months...
  13. Thank you for the link. I am not that keen with an overflow box. Although I have a method that will ensure that the syphon will never break, I prefer an internal overflow with a large pipe.
  14. sure, we can discuss and improve on the ideas. But I am not in a rush, and taking things slowly. Hope you dont mind my slow response.
  15. thanks for the info, I will certainly look into vortech. I feel like a person using this in 2014 in the reefing world.
  16. Guess have to go for one. Was researching on HOB equipments, and not as fancy as the ADA planted tank equivalent. Now zeroing in onto the list of equipment for the setup.
  17. oh I think I made a mistake, it should be wp40. My situation is complicated. I just bought a HDB last night and is planning to setup a 6 footer (if it is allowed in HDB, I understand only a 4ft is allowed). I am eager to start a nano first. As to the size I have not decided, but I don't want it to be too big. However, I do want to setup a customized nano setup with sump, PS, CR, refugium, chiller, etc. When my main tank is up, I intend to use the nano setup as a quartine setup. I am thinking of not going over 2ft
  18. lol I am old school. I do want to create a standing wave in my tank. The resources I read online seems that only the MP40 and above can do that? Actually my main concern is the tank size. I want to create a small tank and is worried that the volume is too small to create the wave.
  19. care to provide more details why you chose the vortech over the wave box? I am thinking of using the nano wave box for a nano. Anyone know what is the smallest tank size I can go? Previously during my time, only the wavebox was available and it was only suited for bigger tanks.
  20. Nice. I will definitely contact you when my tank is ready.
  21. Thanks for the info. I definitely will check that out.
  22. I have been reading up again on the skimmers and although there are considerable number of new brands that were not around previously, I still see the Bubble King as one of the top end skimmers. My question is are there any LFS that carry this brand, I recall there were a few previously, but they no longer carry them on their website. I am keen to try one, perhaps some kind forumer can pm me the contact/info.
  23. Neat setup. BTW can pm me where to get the tonga branch?
